If you are someone who wants or needs to travel ahead of the fleet, I have a proposal for you. Please keep reading.
I myself might be in trouble with regards to time to play over the next 2 months, hence why I might have to go my own way(in terms of when and how to procedd with DW)
BUT !!!! I totally disagree with your post above, If I continue on DW in my own time, to have felt like I did it like the rest of you I will be going to all the waypoints, and if they have still to be revealed by your good self, I will still go to the area in each waypoint, then on to the next.
I might get there before or after all of you, but I will get there
This is similar to the boat that I'm in. I signed up for a shorter expedition; one to which I could commit the time. Then it was extended and I can no longer commit to the full time. I thought I would still be able to scout ahead and provided Trello as a way to communicate that info, helping people avoid useless systems and identify likely candidates for prospecting. I intended to be a pure scout...log into a system, create a Trello card for it and move on. No prospecting and only minimal detailed scans. I don't feel that would have been disruptive for the general, but others are being disruptive, and to be fair it's because they are excited and eager.
So rules have been adopted, which I don't mind. But some of the disruption that is occurring is actually condoned behavior that isn't against the rules. In the 3 days between when we receive detailed coordinates and the actual rendezvous, the Rock Rats will have already uncovered a Green system or two. It's a statistical guarantee if they (or any group like them) do their thing.
Now I like those guys. I'm very happy that they're using Trello for good, and as a BRC racer and real-life team leader I can really appreciate the synergistic efficiency and dedicated teamwork that they're bringing to the expedition. But for the purposes of prospecting Green systems, giving them a 3 day head start might as well be giving them a 3 week head start, so we still end up with the problem of people feeling left out.
I may have a solution for that, which could help any expedition member who wants or needs to go faster.
It's occurred to me that this expedition has 2 goals, and they're actually in conflict:
- Lead people along a historical route, giving them a social reason to explore places they likely wouldn't have explored on their own.
- Establish a super-highway to the far galactic rim that's powered by Jumponium.
Obviously the historical route still needs Jumponium for ships that are sub-optimal for very long-dstance travel, but the historical route is not an optimal route to Beagle Point. In the following image, the green line is an optimal route from the Bubble to BP. The red line follows the main deviation from that route.
The blue line is my suggested route for an alternate, faster prospecting segment of the fleet.
The red historical route is akin the US's famous Route 66; full of sights to see, but requiring a much slower, meandering trip. The blue route acts like the Interstate system, helping people get from points A to B as quickly and efficiently as possible (except for leaving Las Vegas on a Sunday).
Svenno Crossing is the ideal region for establishing a Green source of Jumponium, helping non-Anaconda ships get to Beagle Point along an optimal route. So because of the lengthened expedition timeframe that I can no longer commit to, that's where I'll be going.
Any who wants to join / follow / run ahead / spin Crazy Ivans around me, are welcome to do so. We can still contribute to a primary goal of Distant Worlds (the galactic super-highway); we can contribute to
Erimus's Galactic Mapping project along the way to identify new POIs worth visiting; and we don't have to detract from the main expedition in the process.
