Distant Worlds - A journey beyond the Abyss

Yep someone in Discord chat pointed that out too - I need to bind it to toggle instead.

Right then, new paintjob and I'll be catching you up.

Oh and here's the launch party from my instance - at least this vid cheers me up:

Edit - you can even see the fateful reverse-thrust is on in that vid as it's shot the camera below the surface.

I think we ought to petition the Spacers Safety Authority to mandate reverse-thrust warnings, along the lines of the landing gear ones!

Nice find did you get dibs on it?

Yep! Undiscovered and have just sold all my exploration data back in the bubble a few minutes ago.

Although I had the misfortune to have my accident, I found quite a few ammonia and ELWs on the way back. I came across two separate systems with both an ELW and ammonia world in them. Another system had an ELW with three water worlds as neighbours. Surprised to find an undiscovered Ammonia world just over 1 kylie out from the bubble as well. But this was the first time I had seen a moon WW orbiting a larger WW.

I was the pilot of the unfortunate Conda that faceplanted into the crater...

My heart goes out to you mate. I was the 'Conda just next to you when you went, errmm, 'bang'. At least it wasn't that far out and it's possible to get back with the fleet. On the flip side, it was an impressive explosion :p

I look forward to seeing you back with us soon. Fly safer(er) Vespyr :)

Really hard to imagine the scope of our mission across the universe... and how little of it we are actually seeing...
Very true. Just zooming out on the galactic map still stuns me! 400 billion systems. One me. I need another 10,000 years of life :p

Not enough. Not close to enough

I really wanted to do this, but I'm going to have to turn around and head back early.
My lack of fuel scooping piloting skills have knocked down my hull to 60%, and I'm behind being only at Byeia Eurk GX_L b21-0. Which isn't that far away from the 3rd waypoint.

This makes me feel kinda bad, so I'm sorry.

Well, the launch was interesting. I woke up at 4:45am, somehow managed to set up my HOTAS and get myself seated, got Discord going, and somehow heard there was 2 minutes to go, then I hear "10, 9...". A couple of giant erectio..erm... vertically landed Anacondas in front of me started to increase thrust, a quick jump to de-bug cam to check what was around me (just as well, two Asps hard parked quite close, but nothing behind...), and I hit the up thrusters, started flying backyards and realised my HOTAS was somehow set to full reverse thrust, quickly fixed that.

After gaining a little altitude, I pulled the nose to vertical and hit boost, pretty much launching in the middle of the pack, with ships ahead, behind, beside... Pretty awesome, actually.

Mass lock indicator goes out, time to hit the FSD... Annndddd.... It would appear the five hundred and eleventy Anacondas have mass-locked the universe, with, quite probably, the longest FSD charge in the history of humanity, I had plenty of time to get into the de-bug camera again and get a few snap shots, I have yet to check them out, but they will be good for memories, at the very least.

Watching the people in my friends list spread out from a central system was quite fun, too. I'm not sure I have ever spent quite so long staring at the galaxy map and doing nothing.

Anyway, that was my first group meet-up and launch (due to my holidays that stopped me attending the official DW launch and the first 4 waypoints - no complaints of course, it was an awesome holiday).

Thank you for the honour, and pleasure, CMDR's! I look forward to catching up with old buddies, and making new friends as we progress! Condolences to those that lost ships - but remember, if it wasn't too late for people to dash back to the bubble yesterday for repairs & re-fitting, it certainly isn't too late to catch up to the group today. It's only over if you allow it to be over.

Fly safe, CMDR's!

What are you flying? Jump range? Fuel scoop? It's still within reason to catch up at this stage if you straight line fly...

I suspect your scooping technique is easy to fix, and may even be due to a scoop that is a bit too small/low grade. I'm happy to help...

Thank you, CMDR! It was a harrowing experience, but I'm glad you enjoyed the resulting fireworks and most of all that you weren't hurt! I'll be sure to keep a close watch on the controls at all times now. Fly safe as well! o7

@Zeeman: Sounds amazing! I heard the initial jump took a long time, and for good reason. It's a relief the servers didn't implode at that moment! xD It's a lot of fun taking a peek at the map and seeing so many green squares spreading out in all directions.

@seeker89: As someone who's also suffered severe damage/crashed along the way, I'm sorry to hear what happened to you. But don't give up hope! As Z said, there's still time to head back for repairs and catch up with the fleet. Fuel scoop size also makes a big difference in travel speed. On my first personal expedition to the core, I was ill-prepared and took an undersized scoop that made refueling take much longer than it needed to, which made the trip feel unnecessarily tedious. Since then I've made sure to buy the biggest scoop I can afford and it makes a huge difference. Much less of a pain. Maybe try a different loadout and see if that helps? Best of luck to you, CMDR! o7

I agree with this. I remember the rubbish fuel scoops I started out on (and still have for my vulture) and how I would have to dip down and scoop until it started to get too hot then pull up and wait for the heat to dissipate before going back for more fuel. I got a lot of damage and made very slow progress. I saved up for a 6A fuel scoop and I jump in, level off, throttle up, look at the map and by the time I'm out of the map I've finished fuel scooping and can pull up. The fuel scoop determines the progress you make I reckon.

I'm on the way :)

Left Jameson Memorial a few mins ago and have completed a quick 1000LY jump just to get out of the bubble. Decided to splash out and get the A7 fuel scoop. Hell's teeth! That thing scoops like nothing else - 1245/sec, it takes no time to fill, you're barely warm before you're prepping for the next jump.

Look out for the Gold Anaconda meeting up with you all soon.

Snap. Love that scoop. And these mass meet ups should come with a health warning when everyone jumps into OC/SC, It was so bright I couldn't see for two minutes lol, and everyone mass locking everyone else, bloody marvellous it were.

Go to File -> Copy to edit. Then just change the jump range. It uses the two paths from the first post and gives required materials for each path. Note that the requirements are one-way so double it up if you want to go back home.

 I have build a similar Spreadsheet. Amount of materials needed is calculated for two-ways.

Although, I recommend to take Allitnil’s route (your option 2).

My route is not optimized, because I did not use economic route and there are optimizations possible, as I saw 4 weeks ago, but I do not have much time at the moment
