Distant Worlds - A journey beyond the Abyss

You start charging the frameshift drive while the fuel scoop is still engaged? I just saw the heat go up massively and assumed that I would start taking damage. At least that has happened to me in the past and I haven't tried it since. I suppose I could give it a try now that I am back at the bubble. I also plan to test my heat sinks again just to find out exactly how responsive they are to key presses.

It's been useful to find out though that you can still fuel scoop at max rate even when the throttle is at zero once you are up to maximum rate. I might find a use for that if I need to fill an empty tank or the orbit line isn't showing.
You have to know your ship and what star you are scooping. What is fine around an M with all your modules off, is not fine around a big old O with your shields on.

TordenSkjold (25.63Ly) can do about 1KLy in 35mins over 42 jumps going almost as fast as he can, that is, overdrive not engaged.

And on another note...he's back :)

Hello CMDRs!

I've followed the Distant World Expedition path for a while, but sadly I haven't sign up for this.
However, during my journey to checkpoint 5, i thought about a time-lapse to show everyone, who stayed in civilized space, the beauty of our journey and the destinations!

And here is what I've made:

NGC 6357: https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDange...journey_to_the_ngc_6357_nebular_checkpoint_5/

Hollow Veil: https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDange...urney_to_another_beautiful_nebular_timelapse/

Make sure to leave a comment so that I know what I should change. :)

Thank you for this great idea!

Fly safe!

Not an option for me in an 18LY ship, need to have lots of boosts and I imagine this journey will be long over before they fix it.

I've never had one explode when I'm on my own, driving carefully. I know others may have had. I'd keep the hull at 100% at all times and be on your own ;-)

I rather keep my speed, orbit the star and just as quickly climb out as I got in range. That way I can usually start the fsd drive as soon as it's available, already charging while scooping then leaving the heat zone quick enough to stay under 90% heat. It adds a bit of excitement to traveling. Not that the extra 2 seconds matter much on travel time, which is mostly server dependent. Zoning can take between 20 and 40 seconds. Zoning into a busy waypoint can take several minutes. Yet when the server cooperates I can do 45 sec per jump consistently. A theoretical maximum of 3120ly per hour in a 39ly capable Anaconda. More realistically, 25 minutes per 1000ly stretch is doable.

This is what I do, and its about 25-30 mins per 1000ly. I scan as soon as I arrive and pull the ship around to point at the end of the corona haze, target that, wait till I get up to 900 ish, and keep going at full speed. Then I spin out just before fill up to the next target, and jump. Then scan the system map while its counting up. With my Anaconda, there is no need to worry about heat - you can scoop and charge.

But there are about 1000 ways to do this!

@Zeeman I'm lazy. 96t of fuel allows for around 25 jumps of 30ly without even needing to think about fuel other than that which you gain by turning around stars on route :D. Totally hassle free travel.

That's actually not a bad idea. Jump non stop without needing to think about route and scoopable stars for 750 ly, carry a smallish fuel scoop.. go afk have tea every 30 mins while you're filling up your large fuel tank.

lol, it only takes 2 mins to fill. time for brew is all :p

A flyby is nothing special, nor is a ringed fly through, and not even a ringed hmc fly through, but something about the hmc attracted my eyes to it. So I decided to do it. And I'm glad I did for after flying through the rings, there was a very nice surprise in stall for me. I call this little piece: "Ziggy Stardust, eat your heart out." :)

I hope you got some nice screen caps of that - looks like desktop material :)

Group 'Erimus' has been opened up to non-registered pilots. Put your name down on the sign up thread and apply to that group in game and I'll add you. (note : roster is not being updated for the time being).

Comms for non-roster players are also available here : https://discordapp.com/invite/0hKG2qb9ODixa7Iz

Thanks, I just joined discord #accessrequest

I added my name to the list on https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=209331&page=73&p=3513431&viewfull=1#post3513431

I will be joining the group 'Erimus', but I have to wait for the update to download. I was updating yesterday, looks like they have just pushed some fixes.

EDIT: I've just sent request to join 'Erimus'. Now I'm waiting for your approval. In meantime I start my journey to WP6 :)
