SC Flightmodel Discussion

Well, true to a point, but I doubt everyone will go along that line of thought.

Anyway I did not buy any expensive ship in SC - starting almost rock bottom (a lowly Aurora) - it is the journey, not the destination. Likewise I may start ED with the simple Sidewinder and 100 Cr, despite having access to all starting points (although as I'll probably have more than one captain, it is probable I try the explorer start point).

Same here - i've spendt 30$ on SC and 30£ on ED but that's because i like starting at rock bottom, Climbing my way up IS the game for me.

Seriously? This is one of the best boards I've ever been on. I love people complaining about not having free speech and the like here whilst actually... having the free speech to actually do that. The only thing that isn't tolerated is continued and serious personal insults.

+1 mods here are very light handed and fair in my experience. tough job moderating us lot at times :)

Oh! lets get the hand bags out if we are going to get

He has a valid point though. I'm also becoming very tired of the Elite fanboys bashing SC in a constant comparison war between the two games. If there's a place in which to do that, do it there and not here.

I read both this forum and Star Citizen's forum. They have some posters no matter what is said about ED they have people rushing to bash it, discount it, and say how much better SC will do it, without one bit of proof. It is the way of the fan. Their game of choice can do no wrong and is always better.

So please stop the nitpicking that one forum is more hostile of another game that another. It just isn't true. Both will do it, and in fact I saw a ton more in fighting over issues in Star Citizen then in Elite Dangerous. My best example, the SC store opened and the thread flew fast and furious. People defending the horrible pricing scheme where a poster for a wall was cheaper then a laser cannon for a ship. Chris himself got involved and said that was totally wrong and the pricing was way off mark. The thing is people backed it with a don't want it. Don't buy it attitude, it is only to support the game so shut up if you don't like it. Those opposed said, wait this is just wrong and over priced and should not go into game this way. Fix it.

I am talking a probably a 1000 posts on the issue. So people passionate will defend anything they value, while others will say what is right and wrong. It doesn't mean bashing, just their preferences. Mobius didn't bash SC at all, and backed it. He just said he doesn't like it as much and doesn't view it as competition. Others disagree, how is that different then one person wanting chocolate and another vanilla and saying how one is better then another. It isn't (though chocolate is better).

Nice video. The graphics are attractive. Beautiful planets, beautiful asteroids, the cockpit and the environment are well detailed (cyclone on the planet ...). But there is not the heat of ED.

I just take out my factional tendencies in the constructed domain. They're mostly based on oversimplification and pure fantasy, so it works well in a similar environment. ;)

Funny how a single post turns people into attacking either the original poster or other posters. There are a small handful of people who have posted here who have regressed to an adolescent attitude. Unsurprisingly it’s the same people that always have nothing interesting to say and who just think they are smart in being derogatory to other posters.
The Original post was me showing my disappointment in the Flight physics of a $40 million game that I had backed.
I was hoping that others would share their views on the flight mechanics, while I applaud those who have given their intelligent opinions, there are a good few that due to their high opinion of themselves while insulting others have now been added to my ignore list.
If you have nothing interesting to add to a post and the only thing you can come up with is an attack on myself or other posters then I would like to suggest that you should not post otherwise you will just continue to appear as fools.

Well, from an American, thank you for lumping all of us in one basket.

No everybody, please don’t do that, stereotyping. Could you imagine the stereotype the Americans have of us Brits, wearing bowler hats, swinging umbrellas about, speaking with an ok yah accent. Look up at my profile, I’m a Geordie for god’s sake, how far from the truth would that be, I was born working class & even if I win the Euro-Millions Lottery, I’ll die working class.

Don’t tar everybody with the same brush, yes, you can get loud mouth, brash Americans, but that is not all, if we were all the same as a species, or same as a nation, we’d all be pretty boring & we’re not. So PLEASE, I implore you, don’t do it.

I thank you. :)

Bytheway...

..it's me or it's just ''asteroids paranoia'' ??

why SC shamelessly copied a ED scenario for the DFM ?

I was actually surprised how little SC resembles ED, given that CR has had alpha access for months... I did chuckle when he announced his new heat mechanic in 10 for the chairman though :p!

They are set in space, but I don't see the similarities personally

This for me also. Think that most people here that are "perceived" as being SC bashing are in fact doing so from a position of backing the game themselves and are expressing their concerns for a few aspects. As they are financially backing the SC project they are entitled to the positions given, its not bashing, its commenting on certain factors of the demo shown.

I personally liked much of what i saw - its looks a lot better than i thought it would with a few caveats on the things that people have spoken about.

It's not looking to bad right now but they clearly need to put some work in on the flight model. It seems very arcadey to me. I also noticed that the laser weapons definitely had some turret-like behaviour going on. There were a couple of scenes where Chris was not aiming at the enemy ship at all and the weapons were firing off centre. I have no problem with that but it's interesting to me that there were a lot of comments on the SC forums regarding ED videos on YouTube that were complaining about the gimballed weapons and that they would make the combat too easy. I guess those guys now have their own battles to fight on that front.

I liked how the thrusters were moving around as the pilot moved the ship, a really nice touch. But other than the visuals, which are very nice, I want to see more of the rest of the game such as navigation and such. Hopefully they will move beyond the DFM soon and get on to the meat of the game.

As far as I remember Freelancer was all about gimballed weapons & third person view extravaganza.
