Bytheway...

..it's me or it's just ''asteroids paranoia'' ??

why SC shamelessly copied a ED scenario for the DFM ?

Oh wait yes..of cause SC copied FD when they put asteroids in their demo.. they were sitting around a table thinking.

Dev 1: sooo what are we gonna put in as scenery?
Dev 2: well hmm it's in space soo...hmmm floating ice cream trucks?
Dev 1: hmm ice cream trucks ..well that not really all that likely that they would float around in space..
Dev 2: hmm good call..well what does float around in space..
Dev 1: Well i really don't know!
Dev 2: me neither ...should we..you know?
Dev 1: Yeah i know .. IT'S TIME TO COPY FD!! *highfive*
Dev 2: *looking at the screen* ahh they put rocks in ..those brits are just so smart, they found the one thing that could potentially float around in space..we would never think of that..not in a million years!
Dev 1: Time to shamelessly copy the rocks that we would never have thought of!
Dev 1+2 : *HIGHFIVE!!'

Honestly, the SC community isn't as great as most of the ED is (with exceptions like OP), but I never read ED bashing there. Maybe I read the wrong topics but it's definitly not one of the top topics there.

There is more EVE comparision and what they dislike about it.

I take it you haven't seen any of ravenhursts posts then? If I found out him and from hell were clones I would believe it ;)

agreed early days. and SC does indeed look gorgeous but that jarring control of the ship may as well be a video of someone playing Galaxy on Fire HD.

OK I went back to GoF HD this afternoon. OK I will be gutted if SC is anything like it and am sure it won't be but........ its actually pretty good for what it is and it will put me on for my space fix till ED proper beta arrives

It's not looking to bad right now but they clearly need to put some work in on the flight model. It seems very arcadey to me. I also noticed that the laser weapons definitely had some turret-like behaviour going on. There were a couple of scenes where Chris was not aiming at the enemy ship at all and the weapons were firing off centre. I have no problem with that but it's interesting to me that there were a lot of comments on the SC forums regarding ED videos on YouTube that were complaining about the gimballed weapons and that they would make the combat too easy. I guess those guys now have their own battles to fight on that front.

I liked how the thrusters were moving around as the pilot moved the ship, a really nice touch. But other than the visuals, which are very nice, I want to see more of the rest of the game such as navigation and such. Hopefully they will move beyond the DFM soon and get on to the meat of the game.

Many of the ship weapons in SC are gimballed to some extent. Be it the Hornet, M300, Freelancer or any others (unsure about the Aurora) they all have at least one mount for a semi-articulated (or full ) weapon. Works in the same way as ED in that you need to use a smaller weapon in those slots if you want to place an articulated one.

No everybody, please don’t do that, stereotyping. Could you imagine the stereotype the Americans have of us Brits, wearing bowler hats, swinging umbrellas about, speaking with an ok yah accent. Look up at my profile, I’m a Geordie for god’s sake, how far from the truth would that be, I was born working class & even if I win the Euro-Millions Lottery, I’ll die working class.

Don’t tar everybody with the same brush, yes, you can get loud mouth, brash Americans, but that is not all, if we were all the same as a species, or same as a nation, we’d all be pretty boring & we’re not. So PLEASE, I implore you, don’t do it.

I thank you. :)

You mean to tell me that not everyone behaves like in Lock, Stock, and..., or Downtown Abbey, etc? :) Man, I may have to travel over there or something!

(Actually, I already have... was in the UK back in 2000 for 3 weeks on a lengthy vacation. Made lots of friends, who amazingly never did I see with a bowler hat. Now, a pint glass in their hands, yeah, but ain't nothing wrong with that!)

Besides, if I was that loud-mouth and brash, wouldn't I have more posts than this (40-something) and I've been a member since mid-2013! :D

One of my UK buds recently posted on Facebook that they were tired of scrolling the newsfeed and seeing nothing but videos playing of dogs, cats, and other annoying things. I told him I'd be just as annoyed if I came across a vid of him drinking a pint without me.

So what did he do? LOL, yeah. "This is for you, Mr. Eric. Cheers, mate! [long drink]". Turnabout is fair play, and so I posted one in return, with a true Texan-sized glass that he was then jealous of. I told him everything's bigger in Texas!

I can't imagine a space game without asteroids to be honest. It just wouldn't feel right, no matter how unrealistic it might be. It's just one of those things.

Asteroids give a better sense of our movement in space than just seeing little white particles zipping by. So yeah, I agree.. no one has exclusive rights to asteroids.

I was expecting CR to comment that this was their updated version of the classic Atari hit, "Asteroids". It would be rather cool if they all were destructible and in a 3D environment.

I did like the asteroids breaking up into chunks when hit, or at least some of them. A nice effect but you would probably want that restricted to a smaller number of respawning asteroids. You don't want to get groups of players setting themselves the task of completely clearing out an an entire asteroid field or belt! :)

Yeah, but to have a mini-game of 3D Asteroids... :)

Hmm, I wonder where they got that idea from? First asteroids and now this! ;)

I War PBC- the original and best:

Gimballed lasers were also in X Com Interceptor.

There is enough gimballed love for everyone!
