I like the look of some of SC's ships. Others are a bit much.

I was hoping that ED's ships would evolve into even snazzier designs. Of course there'd always be the classics (Cobra, Viper, Eagle, etc.), but why not something ...sexier? Heck, I like the new design of the old Viper. It actually took a jump forward.

On the other hand, you've got to hand it to the Brits to come up with classic starships that stand the test of time. Like the Red Dwarf, the Heart of Gold, and the Thunderbirds! /sarcasm ;)

Folding wings are more complex and require more space/mass etc.
They are also structurally weaker.

Fixed wings give you more mounting points for thrusters/weapons/utility pods etc.
Folding wings take space away.

Really though we're not talking about wings like an airliner, we're talking about short stubby wings here and there, and not all of the ships have them.

A thruster mounted on a cheese wedge is going to have less leverage then a thruster out on a 10 foot wing.

lol, low res cheese wedges, SC ships are pretty and functional, while ED ships have taken a nostalgic approach in updating designs of ships that have stood the test of time. Elite wouldn't be Elite without its cheese wedges.

but as you have taken this route let me show you how Europe sees the SC ships.

Err... you insert those ships into an atmosphere and you will watch all those pointy bits melt off and burn.

But don't mind me, I like some of the ships. But to indicate that they would be either space worthy or capable of planetary transitions is ludicrous.

On the other hand,some ED ships may be butt uggly, but they make more sense (even if also unrealistic).

I have a hangar, a launcher and I will get DFM on the same day like everyone else. No, I don´t need ALL ships, and ALL hangars

Just admit FDs business model and the way they treat lower tier backers completely suck. Because that is the truth, no matter from which angle you look at it.

They will sell $5 passes for each module to those that sign up after the 3000 remaining slots are gone, but those with slots will get the DFM in stages. Meaning not everyone gets it on the same day. So your statement is wrong. So lets see you bash them. Elite Dangerous is taking longer for alpha then planned, but FD made it clear that the dates were subject to change. (Same for Star Citizen they are missing their dates as well). However unlike SC everyone in alpha got it on the same day, everyone in premium beta got their single player missions on the same day. No staggered release. Same day as promised. Yes late, just as SC is late.

So the question who gets the DFM first over there? Will it be random or the highest paying backers go first and work down to the lowest? We have no idea, but you can stop with how we are badly treated here by FD when they kept their word. Alpha first, then beta. At SC it was all suppose to be on the same day as you said. So what do you have to say now? Are you being badly treated? As a $300(+) backer of SC I say no. They are being smart to stagger it to prevent overloads, get the code straightened out, and see what they need to tweak for the next influx of people. Done well it may be a day or 2, or major issues weeks. However you look at it, you were wrong.

Yes I know there should be a thread to be constructive and critical about Star Citizen .... that would be this thread http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=2716 titled "The Star Citizen Thread"

This thread, is doing nothing more than fuelling the Elite vs Star Citizen hostility, and I for one want to see it stop.
Moderators, do I have to really start reporting EVERY post just to get your attention, because if that's what it takes ... I will.

To everyone else, STOP IT. Stop fighting each other. No more Alpha vs Beta ... no more ED vs SC. No more Us & Them. No more, please.

If some people take a SC vs ED viewpoint then that is their choice. No need to suppress their opinion just because you don't like it.

This is the "General" section and this thread is clearly related to ED because the SC flight dynamic and gameplay is being compared to ED. It is not like it is a thread on Call of Duty or something.

For the first time last week I downloaded my Hanger Module for SC and to be honest I was a little disappointed ..

I had the impression it was all seamless FPS but its like you get to the steps of your ship ...then click to get in ....pauses ..and it jumps into an animation of you getting in the ship.....then the process again to sit down.

It looks cool but the pauses just hit me in the face and stood out so much.
Also it wasn't as smooth as I expected ...

For nearly $42 million compared to £1.5 million I was kind of expecting perfection I guess but there is no doubt ED is looking far far superior at this stage.

Sorry - scratch "Europe", set "Europe, except Clausius" ... ;)
I don´t think, SC-ships are functional. I´d compare them to the submarines of WW1 or WW2, while ED-ships are more like modern submarines. ED-Ships are built to fly in space and are able to do planetary landings , while the SC-ships look like they were built for atmospheric flight and an occasional trip to near atmospheric space. They look like fighter and bomber planes of today or a near future. ED-ships look like real spaceships.

I backed SC, E:D and LT, I don't see any as better than the other, each offers it's very own view and feeling of the space sim.

It has been interesting as well as frustrating seeing them all grow, they all seem to be on budget with no major issues to speak of and heading towards various release dates which gives me time to enjoy each one in it's moment.

Instead of all the silliness we should be glad to have a fantastic year for space sims, I can't remember the last time we had it so good as space cadets :D

I don't think the thread is silly to be honest ... Its the first footage most have seen of actual gameplay there are bound to be comparisons and comments ..

I backed both as well and yes its a good time for space cadets :)

This forum isn't here for us to bash another game or fight among each other.

And yes, it is just like a thread on Call of Duty. The ED General section is for threads on Elite Dangerous. A thread on Star Citizen has no place in a section about Elite Dangerous.

See? now I'm fighting you ... that's all this thread is achieving.

These price comparisons are flawed. Elite has private backing to the tune if we know not how much. SC does not have 40 odd million because Chris Roberts is building a totally new company as a result of the KS, so watch a chunk of that cash disappear into infrastructure and staff. Something Frontier already have.

I agree, location can be argued about, but this thread prevents the discussion breaking out in a multitude of threads. Best to keep us safely locked up in one thread and as long as we have some rational debate it should all be good.

I am reserving judgement to be honest... We have seen one demo and on a very unfinished product. I will wait until the DFM is released and see what people post then (I will purchase sc at retail).
