Distant Worlds - A journey beyond the Abyss

Another btw, for people who aren't aware of Neutron Field topography.

The WP 06 base camp sits at X: 1221.5 and Z: -644.2. That puts camp just over 350 LYs above the field's top, and 171.5 LYs inside the eastern field's western border. If you fly straight down from camp, you'll see system BLAE HYPUE HA-Q D5-10 (a white dwarf system) as this region's upper bound.

edit: White Dwarf eclipsing a Brown Dwarf in the fields
I was going to say, 'No scoopables here," but then noticed the red dwarf behind me...

So am I too late to this shindig? Just got back into Elite a few days ago and picked up Horizons, then found about Distant Worlds not long after, I've kitted an ASP and I'm ready to catch up, think it's doable? Been to SagA previously and got 3kly away from the bubble last night to get a feel for exploring again and I keen to tag along.

Welcome to the fleet!

Word of advice, practice landing and learn it to perfection before you decide to catch up with the fleet. Different G worlds behave differently when landing & may surprise you. You don't want to crash your ship far away from home, or accidentally collide with other CMDRs.
Landing is very rewarding, though. You get a nice view from the surface & can idle at waypoints & chat with other commanders. It just carries a significant risk that you need to learn to control, compared to standard Elite.
Socializing in the Discord chat or TS server is also nice ways to stave off isolation & space madness.

I hope you find Horizons an interesting experience!

i believe there is advice earlier in the thread, if you want to tag along go for it more the merrier :)

if you make begal point with the convoy you'll get added to the official roster.

i've just caught up at waypoint 6 awaiting the fleet tomorrow in open :)

I'm not going to make way point 6 in time. I'm still 6.5 kylies away and I am busy for most of tonight.

I'm still waiting to get back to NGC 6357 after the SRV blower upper bug. Maybe if I ask nicely they will move me to waypoint 6..

Fingers crossed that it goes more smoothly for you than when they moved me. Not been able to play since :( I think they mangled my cmdr data.

Thanks to the fantastic efforts of Frontier's support CMDRs Taurus, Ares, Tronador and Miu~ I'm back on the road and chasing down the rest of the fleet :D

I don't believe this breaks any rules about naming Cmdrs since they're names that will be familiar to anyone who has contacted support

It happened again, luckily my srv survived. I was driving along over flat terrain. Nothing in sight, just the usual little rocks.
Then suddenly hull critical, from 100% down to 7% with no visible bump or damage indication. Keep that SRV above 95%!

I completely sympathise with these folks. After losing an SRV to that bug, and 2 hard landings knocking my hull into the 70's, I put a support ticket in and went through the warp home, restock SRV and repair, then warp back to my previous location.
Big thank you to Cmdr Vega who answered within 24 hours, and had it resolved within 48 hours. I consider that my one and only "get out of jail free" card and I will NOT be using it again. What I will be doing is keeping my SRV over 95% hull, and being extra EXTRA careful landing when I'm near a landing waypoint. I suggest everyone else does much the same.

It also means I'm 2 days behind where I hoped to be, putting me 3 Kylies from WP-06. I can catch up some of that tomorrow morning before work, but I'm on lates this week so my gaming time is limited. Chances are that I'm going to miss everyone by a day. I will however have plenty of time to catch up at the weekend.

As some small recompense for my issues, I have found what I consider to be a perfect stopover system.
Ringed Earth-like. Check.
Pristine Metallic rings in system. Check
Almost all materials available. Not prospected everything but found all the jumponium materials apart from Polonium.
Some interesting geology on moons. Check.

I can't submit it for the Pioneer Cooperative bounty because it's too far away (over 9000ly), but this would definitely be a candidate system.

Step one: Arrive in Alioth from Sag A* on Tuesday evening, sell a lot of data, sell my trusty DBX (alas, poor ship, your internals are too lacking for SRV driven exploration).

Step two: Spend the funds on a lovely new asp, equipped with the latest in planetary vehicle hangars and all mod cons after a whole bunch of build advice form the discord chat.

Step Three: Depart Wednesday Morning and head into the black ...

Step four: Arrive at waypoint six on Wednesday evening, spend the last couple of thousand ly chatting with other explorers in a wing, and make plans for tomorrow :).

It is absolutely possible to catch up!

Nope, believe people can join the Erimis group and swing on over.

Excellent, will join the group when I'm on next. Cheers.

I've got several landings under my belt so far and had some fun in the SRV, but I've yet to try a high G planet, will do that next up rather than crashing and burning a long way from home.

Good to hear, I'm moving at a fair clip this time around, went the 6A scoop, my 1st trip to SagA was with some puny little scoop that maxed out at 176/s, nice being able to fill up before you've finished looking at the System map.

[snip]

It is absolutely possible to catch up!

Excellent, that distance in a few days, you must have a few more spare hours to play than I. :D

Does it bug anyone else that SRV's weigh nothing? I'd like to see hangar bays lose weight, and the weight be transferred to a buggy. At least that way, if you lose a buggy, you get a small jump range boost as compensation...

Don't they have a mass of 4t each?

Don't they have a mass of 4t each?

They do? When did that happen? The mass seems to be part of the hangar, whether you have an SRV or not. Did they change it in the latest update? I need to check...

This is based on when I actually bought my SRV's and hangar. Buying a hanger added 10T (or something) to my ship's mass - with no SRV's. Adding 2 SRV's added no mass...

Had an absolute blast playing tag at WP6 tonight, which marks my first bit of socializing in DW since launch haha.
Got some terrific footage, there were a lot of drift kings there

Technically they weigh 4 tons.... In actuality, their weight is counted in the hangar.

Which is exactly my issue...

I *somehow* lost an SRV last night, and I'm not altogether sure if it was a bug or not, but regardless, I'd like to get the 4T mass taken off my ship...

Im about 1000Ly from wp7 and at there i will park my Python for at least a week and concentrate on XCOM2.
13 hours to go until some sectoid ass kicking. :)

"Welcome back commander"

Looking forward tp meeting up at wp 6 tonight will arrive before the set time might not be much earlier though hehe^^ If anyone is up for some srv racing that would be fun ot just exploring the area in a srvs aswell would ofc be nice!:)

I'm going to be a few hours late for WP6 too. Been back to the bubble for repairs but that was the last time.

Too far out now for me to risk anymore messing around or gung ho landings...

The main thing my dash to the bubble and back (20kly round trip) has brought home to me is just how long the journey home is going to be. Loving the meetups on the way out, hope we can arrange some ad hoc meet ups on the way home to stave off space madness. The self destruct button may start waving at me...
