UAs, Barnacles & More Thread 6 - The Canonn

Just got back from Barnard's Loop and the surrounding nebula. Looked for barnacles a little, but nothing much of note. I did rush back for the Varati War though.

Regarding Lagoon Nebula, I believe MB's comment on it was that he wasn't going to say if there were any there or not, but that's from memory.

If I'm not mistaken, I think somebody asked specifically about Lagoon and MB said no barnies there. If I wasn't on my phone, in line at the grocery store I'd look for the post!

if this is confirmed, the search can shift onto other locations. Still no sign of dr palin either keep an eye out for him in supercruise

Deep down, it's the devils we want to find.
If we don't find them and defeat them, how can we become gods? ;-)

I like that !
Look upon my barnacles yea mighty and despair! muhahahahah

This is the quote you are thinking of ...

Question:
Now that one has been found, can you be a little more candid with your responses?
What other nebulae are they found in? And is Lagoon nebula one of those nebulae?

Michael Brookes:
I'm afraid not - the nebula that they can be found in relates to their origin and I can't talk about that.
See rizals post in front

Trying not to interpret too much ... but I think he is answering no to the request for a more candid response ... not no to the lagoon nebula.

Someone did ask about Lagoon. MB said he could not answer the question.

It's on the front page.

I don't see how his statement gives any evidence or even possibility that there are other sources.
If he had used the plural, or said 'have been' instead of 'can be', then the question would still be open.
Singular and 'can be' really does mean that there is only 1 source.

When there are a multiple interpretations, I agree we shouldn't fixate on one of them.

It does not. It just shows that MB did not spesificaly say that the Lagoon nebula is empty.

However this statement was made after barmacles were found in the Pleiades and after he confirmed that he meant 'nebulae' indicates that the Pleiades not the location of origin.

I'm not sure. I just think so.

I think that when MB said "I'm afraid not" it was in response to the first part of the question "can you be a bit more candid with your responses?" rather than anything about the Lagoon.

I've just made myself a cup of tea and broken out the Hobnobs :)

Good man! I'm waiting to get over to the depot over in Forsskal Hub - I understand the Varati Independent Union have started rationing and put theirs under lock and key - they must be liberated!

I have said it before, but I will repeat it for the safety of our scientists.

Sweet biscuits are ok in the bubble. Out in the black, you should avoid anything that attracts ants.

I always pack Varatian Riz crackers (extra Zolty).

Wise words indeed Professor Han_Zen - and a stroke of genius :)

Picking up on the theory that the Barnacles may be related to 'the lost', those groups of humans who headed out into unknown space in the distant past, I plotted a course from Sol to the Pleiades and then extended that beyond the Pleiades in a straight line. I was looking to see if that line hit any other nebula further away. It did. It hit NGC 1333 which sits below the California Nebula. Strangely there is also a very dense long strip of stars that appears to be exactly in line with the course I plotted. Add to that the fact that Barnard's loop viewed from NGC 1333 looks very much like the Barnacles logo as the horsehead nebula is no longer in the centre and appears to form the 'blob' we see at the bottom of the logo.

Has anyone already checked this location? If not I'll take a look and report back.

It's not about the searching. It's about paying attention to details.
Finding something a little out of place and reporting it here.

Try searching the forum for the first few posts about barnacles. Se how long it took before the idea actually took off.

Now we have lots of loose ends. Palin gone, meta alloy repair properties, S6: 7, barnacle markings and all the UA stuff. Plenty of question marks.
If you limit your self to surface hunting for 'new things', it's easy to burn out.

Just keep your eyes open while you do the things you want to do.

Thanks for your aswer, my post might be a bit confusing, but what i actually meant is if we can be sure that there is something to find right now. Meaning is it implemented yet or are we just waiting for that to happen. Do you guys know something 'official', maybe somthing MB said? It's a bit similar to the hunt after S6:7, finding unkown ships (?) outside OO and not knowing if it's a bug or a Feature.

I don't know if anyone has gone there yet but I think it would be a good idea to check it out. I have a feeling you may be on the right track. O7 CMDR and good luck!

The only physical objects I know have been implemented, but not found are the wreck types demoed in the horizons live streams.

Permanet wrecks, barnacles and bases are server side controlled. This means that they can be added or removed at any time without an update. We can just assume that some are out there and more will come.
