Behind the Enemy Lines (Episode 2) was a 6M stretch goal.
Yeah but things have gotten a lot larger in all possible ways since then.
I mean CR can't make SC/SQ42 episode 1 AND episode 2 with 6 million anymore can he?

Heh... I doubt it, especially with the cast. However, I am pretty sure that it was only possible to invite such actors due to additional funding. So now we are expecting a movie-game. And sometimes I wonder whether movies are going to be merged with the games in some sort of action movies that require a participation of a person watching it...
As we all know there's one huge amount of people, waiting to buy into SC,
Just out of interest, how do you know this?
I am of the opinion that most people who would have bought SC already have.
Downsides I talk about Zano and the Derek Smart furore around Star Citizen. So far out of 300 students (all aged about 21) one has heard of SC. One. Just one. Now, anecdotes are not evidence and you can read into that what you will but I'd say it is likely that SC has managed to penetrate the potential market as far as it can. These are all target players, tech savvy, interested in this sort of thing people.
As we all know there's one huge amount of people, waiting to buy into SC, so SQ42 will set the "quality" standard.
Well, most of the people i know are waiting.Just out of interest, how do you know this?

The citizen number is not the backer number, it was clarified already quite long ago. Being that the number of registered accounts, and this includes Free Flight accounts. The real number of backers is not known however but should be around hundreds of thousands.Based on ED's sales I'd say about 1.5 million as a probable total. So if CIG's claimed citizen numbers are to be believed they've already hit the top,
Interestingly, well to me, I talk about crowdfunding to my students as part of a business course. It's nothing new (see Howard Carter for example).
Anyhow, I talk about the upsides and downsides. So things like Oculus and Pebble are good examples of upside. I'd class Elite there too.

That doesn't mean they will buy it though.

I'm still of the opinion that the general gaming public isn't that interested in a space sim.
We'll see.
But this is exactly the thing!
Marketing here, promotes the FPS experience, and that makes Star Citizen step in what we call Mainstream audience around. What is already noticeable that people who are not really into a Space Sim, are attracted by what SC is aiming for.
On my opinion, a good FPS experience will attract people that otherwise wouldn't be interested on SC, if it was only the Space Sim experience.
It's that line i see SC if they pull it right, they can hit one big possible audience, but currently it's just too early for that to happen.
Most games do not give public dates until they are sure to be ready for that date. Many games get delays and many others are cancelled. For most of the games that get a delay, this will not be announced. It's internal development. When I listen to some of the "statements" like, projects get pushed back all the time in this business, I kind of wonder if "this" business are full of incompetent people? I honestly don't think so.
I think you're being overly optimistic and underestimating the size of the chunk of the targeted audience that has already bought the game.
Then again Elite sold A LOT more than I had expected (so I might be wrong) though granted that was a for a different reason than what SC is aiming for.

Even Blizzard only announced that his new game was cancelled because of leaks of his development and that people was always asking about it, even Starcraft 2 was delayed (Is Blizzard full of incompetent people?Don't think so).
Delays happen, you can believe it or not, that's your choice but it happens.

I'm not even talking about SM, it's just the FPS component, the ability to just have that kind of combat on the actual MMO, merged with the Space Sim, i do know people who are Backers but they are not aiming to even fly ships, are on an organization dedicated to things as ship boarding, and similar stuff, there's actual ships prepared for FPS "drop-out" bay, i don't know the actual correct word for it.Max - I don't often agree with you but on this point I do agree. SC has moved to be an FPS with space flight and combat. Even the in ship stuff is really an FPS when you look at the mechanics. I expect at some point to see Star Marine in a re-badged form to encourage the FPS crowd into the game at a lowish price point. Backers get it for free but everyone who buys from this week on has to pay for it.
