CQC I used to think I sucked at CQC

And then I realized, I just needed a bigger monitor. 46" feels like VR. I see EVERYTHING now.

My last 2 games:

I've wondered what it would be like to not have to aim at individual pixels.

It's a vanilla 1080 TV that is heavily post processed, so if anything it's a bit more pixelated. But the pixels are HUGE, which means my near sightedness is no longer an issue. ;)

Just wondering if maybe that is part of the issue other CMDRs may be facing too? Most people have 46+ inch screens in their living room, but for some reason all PC builds I see are either a single smaller monitor or multiple small monitors in a vertically short, wide field view.

Wide is pretty useless IMO, but tall is very helpful since most strafes and turning wars happen on the more mobile vertical axis.

I mean, I blame the fact that I can't actually play capture the flag, because there are only 10 people playing the game at one time and four of them are in a rank 40 wing and me and the pubs I'm with are ranks 12 to negative 7.

Your screenshots are the main reason I only play DM lol. How much XP does TDM give compared to DM? You get around 2300 for a win in TDM

I always felt widescreen is overrated.
For some reason consumers have accepted the widescreen mantra.

I agree with you. For what do you need 30"+ monitor? There is something extra or what? I use my BenQ 27" and for me it's enough. And whatever i don't see, then i use a radar... You can't see 360° environment around you. Therefore mostly i focus my eyes on radar because there you can see enemies and indicator which show you if your enemies attacking.

I was using a 27" and it was definitely sharper than the current 46" screen. But with a 46" screen I see so much more. Something about the size also makes it feel more intuitive. Maybe the scale is more accurate? Or the size makes my brain see things faster? Idk. But I know where to go now and when to time my moves. On my 27" screen, my sense of distance was just a rough guess, and I couldn't hug structures easily or flying through tiny gaps to get away. I would also over estimate the time I had and would often be dead before I could react. Now everything feels like it has slowed down and the other pilots seem to be moving through molasses.

I switched to a 40 inch TV (Samsung Series 6) when ED came out and never will I go back to a smaller monitor. Certainly agree it helps track targets, but the big thing for me was the higher level of immersion from having a large screen fill your FOV. I even use it for work now! :)

I know a lot of people will argue monitors are far better quality, but even when I am picky I can rarely see much of a difference and price wise far far cheaper than getting a 40 inch monitor.

Nice one Ziljan!

Hmm, I am almost tempted to try CQC again...

here, I'll help guilt-trip you. I ADORE your FDL videos.

*my best Jeremy Clarkson impersonation*
They help show the diversity of a combat orientated ship, that if James Bond were in the 33rd century, this would be his LOVER. She has the suave, the looks, the SOUND. Only thing missing is the flying wing icon of Aston Martin.

seeing your videos on weapons and such too, EPIC. Seriously, I'd love to see some crazy in-depth look at ship capabilities in CQC. The Condor and the Imp Fighter remind me of like Japanese A6M5s in Warthunder... whereas the Sidewinder is like a classic MMO tank ironically, and the Eagle is just the "big bully" with its beams and stealth systems.

But it needs SCIENCE!!

and someone with good video skills

beyond that, a 46" feels almost like VR?

It makes sense in a way, looking at the in-game FOV and the flightstick vs my x52 pro. It's crazy too, most driving games are almost 1:1 on a 46" screen as well. I certainly was MUCH better on my friends TV driving Forza (it was an elevated 52" taking up a whole dorm room wall) than I do now on my dinky 24" lol. Maybe I can convince the wife a 46" monitor is... "needed..." it's certainly cheaper than a 980ti and OR DK2 lol
