Thread Re-opened

Hi Folks
I am now re-opening the thread. I ask once more for personal comments directed at other forum members to cease and for a return to discussion of the thread's topic.

Now, on with the discussion.

I am again EXTREMELY disappointed at the behaviour in this thread. We tried to call for order but sadly at times people still want to have another word that brings it all back.

If the issues continues we will dispense with issuing warnings and will issue infractions instead. This NONE of us want to do. I want to come onto the forums and read great posts and contribute, I don't want to issue warnings and infractions but if I have to I shall so lets not make go down that path.

Lets try this again. Oh and before I forget, please do not incite others either/flame baiting etc will lead the baiter to also get an infraction.

If you read something that makes you want to loose your cool stop and think or log off for a while. Think "will saying one more thing really help". Perhaps the adage of "Do not buy tickets to the concert and the show will not go ahead" may be a valid point or maybe not.

Can we please MOVE ON and continue a discussion condusive to good conversation. Issuing infractions and warnings and closing threads is NOT the direction we should be going but if we are forced to, then sadly, we will.

Ok now with that said and done with, lets go back to HAPPY times

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
I was hoping CIG would have released the dogfight video they promised by the end of the week, but it looks like they're not going to make that. Wish they'd be more careful promising 'extras' like that. Core game delays like that of the DFM are expected and I can understand them, but saying you're going to release a video in the same week and then not doing it.... just not cool imho.

Anyway, still looking forward to getting my hands on the DFM! That and Alpha 4 should probably drop around the same time! Nerdgasm! :D

The week is not over yet. A week is seven days and WingMan was on chat recently to inform people that its still rendering and it has yet to upload. So we will more then likely see it tomorrow.

I wouldn't have expected them to work on Easter, but that's cool I guess. :)

What DFM video? It's the first I've heard of this.

They've mentioned it a few times this week. It's a video that showcases more of the DFM than was at PAX.

Latest news is that it's being worked on and that CR has to give it his ok yet, so look out for it soon. Er, Soon (tm).

Yeah there's a fair bit of nerdrage going on about the video; but evidently it took longer than expected to make, and I'm pretty impressed that they stayed in the office after midnight on easter Saturday to make sure it was out 'by the end of the week'. I'd rather they all got some sleep and time at home after PAX to be honest!

They really love their helmet flipping, don't they :)

Thing is - you never flip a helmet. They are too heavy to spin like that, too expensive to drop, and if you mess the flip it'll break your nose :)

They may be whoopin' n' a hollerin' to the eye candy as you wander to your ship and climb the ladder to get in. But I would be crying for a skip button once I had seen that sequence a half dozen times.

Regarding the image of Team Troyka's ship that Sagan Ross posted, the level of detail they have on these things is incredible and I assume a testament to the power of CryEngine 4. Everything seems to have a very mechanical, utilitarian aspect to it, at least from the outside.

Deadly, But very fluffy...
Yep, just jump to 23:15 to bypass the old stuff already seen. After that the video shows the good work they have done. With that build displayed in the video I'd say that two weeks won't be a difficult reality after all.

Agree with skipping to 23:15, watching there on in i was much more impressed with how they have progressed, the graphics looked lovely and gameplay much smoother.
However what i really enjoyed most was watching the Devs ship getting blown up and his pilot ejecting and spinning around uncontrollably, before stabilizing and using his suit thrusters, that really was Impressive visuals.

Looking forward to trying this all out when they release the DFM.

I wonder what the new thing was he was going to show us at about 34 mins when they jumped him?

The EVA looked fun - hope we can toggle of the weaps display in the hud when not in use.

My thoughts exactly but it is very early days for them. I would guess they still have many months of work ahead of them before they even approach the level of Alpha 1.0 of ED. When the DFM is finally released, I'm really looking forward to hearing feedback.

I still think the flight model and 3rd person mode looks a bit naff, but it is exceedingly pretty.

I've got so used to using 1st person pov all the time with ED that I find it looks very odd with all the flipping about in 3rd person.

That said I think it's a presentation issue as much as anything - trying to see what they are doing/showing is tricky with the camera constantly flicking to another pov.

It doe's look like great progress or at least progress ,the level of detail is very high and when work on the lighting etc is finished it will look a whole lot more natural ,and once the flight model has been exposed to the public and really used I'm sure any corrections will be made that are required.

The only thing that let them down hugely was their presentation ,while I agree CR as the face of SC was the best to lead the presentation he could of delegated large elements (like flying) or specific features to staff more directly involved ,reducing perhaps the huge load this man was trying to carry.

All in all I am still looking forward to SC (who wouldnt be?) although it maybe with a telephoto lens currently :)

That's the difference between you and me, I'm good enough to where I won't have to see that sequence enough to have it bother me. :D
