Still not played it yet, but from what I read if this is essentially an arcade style game - so be it. I only invested in the ship + game/AC, so I don't mind too much.

It will be nice to have 2 different space style games too. If SC still lives up to the promise of on foot shootouts too it could be a fun arcadey game. Fly about, kill some dudes, land at station, kill some dudes, go home to your loved ones, kill some dudes... sounds good to me :D Sure, not what we wanted but still hopefully enjoyable.

I understand though those who've been promised a more sim style approach, and pledged a ton and received this. Quite ridiculous really; flat out lies.

The only problem really now is that the devs have shot themselves in the foot a bit. The HOTAS guys (who I fall under more so FYI) aren't happy, and the KB/M only guys mostly are. But if they 'fix' the HOTAS and nerf the KB/M combo, then those guys will no longer be happy. Essentially, one crowd will always be mad with them unless they truly do get a perfect balance - which seems a tough thing to do.

Time will tell though. When it's downloaded I'll play it a bit, but probably leave it until it's in a more complete state. At this rate, I may be waiting a while! Thank god for Elite/Limit Theory :)

It was never meant to be an arcade.
Do you really think they would design complex ships and mechanics just so you can point and shoot with them from the 3pv ?

Yeah, what's up with the coupled/decoupled controls?
Coupled, you can accel/decel/pitch/yaw/roll & strafe up/down. Decoupled, you can't accel, can't roll, can strafe sideways and front/back(????)..

Wat. What's wrong with a simple, normal flight where you can accel/decel/pitch/yaw/roll/strafe updown/strafe sideways ?

Probably there is something wrong either on the design decision part or on programming staff (probably CIG is vastly understaffed ).

I think that AC is very similar to this, I can barely see the difference (oh, AC is much easier to play I think):

I've defended CIG's honour over a great many things, but up with this I will not put! The article links to a graph with a Y axis that doesn't start at zero. That's an amateur stats mistake, and it makes an increase slightly over double the previous value look like a five-times increase. They'll be using pie charts next...

A colleague makes a rant to new students every year to never touch a pie chart, especially any 3D piechart. :)

Back on topic, the most irritating thing so far with AC for me is the lack of bind-able controls, with the HOTAS graphic being nothing like my HOTAS. I do love a bit of systematic button pressing to find out what's linked to what.

Runs smooth though, looks...OK, but not as good as I was expecting. But it has a functioning HUD! Bliss. :)

That's what a lot of people have been wondering.

Complex physics, complex ships - and it was never meant to be arcade.

Yet - we were given an arcade shooter... :(:S

Ofcourse not - it is definitely disappointing. Saying that though - I didn't pay too much and if I can still enjoy it a bit when it's more complete then personally I will be happy enough.

Obviously this is from a personal perspective - like I said before I fully understand the anger and disappointment. It was delayed more than half a year for... this.

It makes me have doubts for the future of the project, but after a bit of a mess about on this module I shall be waiting a year or 2 before picking it up again. Can't be bothered with this type of thing in alpha so much - it needs more components.

Elite on the other hand - I can be bothered with because I prefer their approach. They know exactly what they are doing next it seems, and their target is clear.
