I know Raxxla is in game and has been since beta. Gypsy stated that Drew has said there is something to be found in the BOVOMIT sectors, with the inference that it is Raxxla. It's that I'm sceptical about.

Does not mention BOVOMIT sectors.

Yup just realized that. Going to have to root around a bit more. He made a comment along the lines of "Yes, that is almost exactly where I would expect it to be" to a Cmdr that was out there by Bovomit. But it seems...in a different thread. Or else im quite confused!

I'm not saying I didn't enjoy it or that I didn't learn from it. I'm sure others did too. It got me to read his whole blog and buy his book, which I thoroughly enjoyed.
But a huge amount of time was spent on that riddle with the assumption that it had something to do with the game. Drew could have easily clarified and allowed that effort to be focused, but instead he played into that and let people go crazy looking in game using his clues. I appreciate the value of the riddle for what it was, but I also support the idea that we should take Drew's hints with a grain of salt and a healthy dose of skepticism.

btw, it's not very nice to tell people they're looking at something the "wrong way". My perspective on the issue is just as valid as yours, and they're probably not that far apart. ;)

Edit: Also there's this post where I stood up for the idea that Drew wouldn't mislead us and make people waste their time going down the wrong path. I was mistaken.

Then allow me to apologize. My comment was not meant as an insult to your critical thinking skills rather as an invitation to alter your viewpoint toward the event and its ultimate resolution.

If I may ask... would you have followed the riddle if you knew from the start that it had nothing to do with the game? I'd probably guess most people would say no to that.

If anything Drew gave us (and the developers) a practical lesson on "emergent gameplay" that ventured far beyond the use of buzzwords on a Q&A session (for me it was over 2000LY... further than I have been in the game).

if 100 000 players would just start exploring and spending in each system 1 min it would take about 8 years to scan galaxy... I think we will never find Raxxla :(

Im just going to put this out there that Maybe Drew was actually hinting at something. There is a lot of assumption that the UA is always going to be what is being "hinted" about. I think Drew's storyline is very-much a tangent to that of the UAs ... But as he has stated (in the formadine rift thread) there is something else to be found in game related to his story.

Fair question. I probably wouldn't have put as much time into it nor gotten as much out of it. But then I also wouldn't have felt as let down upon learning the answer. Probably also wouldn't have been curious enough to buy his book, so mission accomplished in that sense. And I'm glad I did.

You make a good point about enjoying the journey, and anything that convinces FD to build more mystery into the game is a good thing. But the creators of those mysteries should remember that no one wants to feel like a pawn in someone else's game. It breeds resentment over time and makes it hard to stay positive. Kudos to those that do, it breathes much needed life into the game.

Hi Guys.

Just realized how difficult it is to get up to the BOVOMIT sectors.
I believe there is something up there that can help us with this, but due to time constraints, I don't think I can make it.

If you look at those systems, instead of the usual "Unknown permit required" we have " Requires"
This I think is very important. And in my excitement, off I went with two MAs in the hold. However, Draw Wagner has stated that there is something to be found up there... and there has been since the Beta. So that excludes MAs. Whoops.

I think that, from the cannon, all that is required -is simply weapons. So. A question. Has anyone ever travelled up there loaded for Bear?
several sectors have "requires" instead of "unknow permit required". its not just bovomit.

Does it mean you definitely can't enter these systems or is it just an assumption?
it's (requires ). with SPACE... so propably somebody ducked it up.... Just bug, report this...

It isn't Bug, it's just a bug.

Hey Guys,

just came back from an exploration trip to barnards loop for barnacle searching. So far no joy. Just as I have nearly returned to Maia I bumped into a distress signal. I was really suprised to see the Federation Farragut Cruiser "Thunderer" in it who claimed it was heaving difficulties from an attack by 2 sidewinders, an eagle and a dropship. After killing the deadly armada threating the noble Federation Battlecruiser I was flying closer to make some screenshots. Is this a normal distress call signal scenario? I haven´t seen such one. Sector was Pleiades Sector GW-W C1-13 just 11 ly from Maia. What is Federation doing out here in such force? One drive was burning, maybe it was UA damage???? Would explain why there weren´t able to turn on like one of these super laser turrets to make short process of these punks. Bad that I have no cargo scanner. Can I even cargo scan a battlecruiser?

Edit: I can´t upload the pictures I have taken :( Will try again

Oh my, there is 't any magical Raxxla or Caine Massey or more barnacles.
These clues, hints are given to players to give some hope and to give time for the developers meantime to implement further contents, perhaps in 2.1.
Good Luck for the search, but nothing to be found until 2.1 arrives...

i'm having a nice time exploring my first barnacle site, not a new one.
Has anyone else noticed what sounds like a voice in the data link scanner, it does two sound cycles and on one i keep thinking i can hear an american voice.
i cant turn it up any louder, the last word (sound )sounds like "cover"
Will have to look into doing video capture.

There is another commander who went into this idea pretty deep, and said the same thing. Sounded like "give me cover" and some other things along those lines.

On the topic of the Formidine Rift, Drew talked about it being reachable in beta, and even more so with Engineers update. Sounds like we would be looking for a field of unscoopable stars (the rift itself) with a scoopable one somewhere in the middle of it (location of Raxxla?). So you'd either need to be super fuel efficient or have an incredible jump range. Or both possibly with the Engineers update.

David Braben reveals fact about Barnacles

I might be a bit late to the party here but...
Did anyone else hear what David Braben had to say about barnacles on the Lave Radio 100th Episode? (02:57:16)
"They are living creatures..."

It's also worth listening to the post-interview commentary by the LR crew about this reveal (that we all probably suspected).

DB also said what happens with the Thargoids will depend on what we do when we first encounter them. So...

'If' Thargoids are less Insect and more fish now and...

'If' the Barnacles are part of the Thargoid life cycle / hive queen / stuff...

Then we are all doomed. Doomed!

Anyone tried cooking barnacles with a retributor? Perhaps they taste nice when barbecued?

It's all a very interesting read.

Has anyone tried communicating with them through voice communications in close proximity to them? Perhaps someone should sing Get Schwifty to them?

But first and foremost, has anyone tried delivering slaves to them? It seems like a logical offering.

I'm sure first encounter will be something like "we come in peace. SHOT TO KILL!". I've got C1 beam in my anaconda... I would use it :D

google it: (((400000000000 / 100000) / 60 )/ 24) / 365
Omg i hope i didn't screw it up

You didn't screw it up, but the result is unrealistically low. Most obviously, no one can play 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Assuming 10 hours play per day increases the estimate to almost 20 years.
