"I Want It All" Queen of Sag A* in Open - take care

She has the right to do it because no one can stop her - right by conquest! ;)

A minor correction to my previous statement as well, she has not actually interdicted anyone, just asked them to leave the system. OP just scanned her, saw weapons and assumed the worst.

Honestly I regret posting, I feel that people are taking their anger out on me. Don't shoot the messenger!

It's her kingdom of isolation, and it looks like she's the queen? :)

So just fly in solo and :) him off.

No better way to annoy jerks like this then deny them a target in the first place.

Instead of him taking away your time, you'll be taking away his.

Easy.

Hi everyone.

I am friends with the commander in question. (No, it's not me :p )

Firstly, she is female - seeing everyone refer to her as "he" is quite funny.

Secondly, no she has not actually fired a shot as of yet. Just interdicted people and asked them to leave the system.

Thirdly, she is reading this thread and honestly the more you insult her the more likely she is to start actually killing people. Something to bear in mind.

She is also not a griefer, there is a reason for doing it.

Happy flying everyone :)

Give me one damn reason she's doing it... I need one, or I just can't take her childishness seriously. And a given reason is unlikely to change that either...

That's right, there isn't. No faction owns the system, and there is no money to be made apart from scanning the celestial bodies. Any bounties earned here, are from KWS, and those bounties you get are not in any way linked to Sag A*

Oh well, I'll just continue to bypass her by playing in Kamzel & solo. LOL

Well, theres no doubt that your friend will conquer - threatening unarmed explorers. ;)

Sounds fun, im off to rob the candys from babies. :D

I'm sorry you feel that way because I don't have any anger at this time at all. That's because I don't tend to form opinions which are strong enough to become angry about without information on which to do so.

However since none is being provided, the best I can do is make an inference based on the evidence that is available; specifically that a player is occupying a system which has no strategic value at all (I'm assuming she isn't there to prep it for a Hudson PP expansion attempt in 3309...) but is one of the most commonly visited systems by explorers who would be in no position to deal with an assault from a fully armed corvette even if they were inclined to try.

Can't really see what she's getting out of that myself, other than an inflated (and grossly misplaced) sense of self importance. If any evidence to suggest otherwise should present itself I will cheerfully reappraise my opinion.

Well he/she/it is a t i t.

Edit: As so often happens, Leo has said it far more succinctly than me. :D

I will say that despite the fact I have very few issues with FD, the degree of hedging, fence sitting and generally absolving themselves of the responsibility for defining griefing in this game and holding players to account for it is almost unparalleled in my experience of online gaming. Having a statement in the EULA/ToS is worthless unless someone is ever going to get their thumb out of their posterior and actually do something about it; they would do better to simply remove the statement completely and with it their responsibility to do anything other than wring their hands and issue mealy-mouthed statements about how things are 'regrettable' or 'not encouraged'.

It's great having a no naming and shaming policy on the forums as long as players know the company themselves give a single crap about these issues. My impression is increasingly that they don't, or at least that they don't give enough of one to actually confront the issue head on.

To be clear, I'm not especially concerned where the line is drawn; just that it is drawn. Right now it seems to be a moveable one that sits approximately an inch to the right of whatever specific incident is raised. That is just gutless - one day they are going to have to bite the bullet and stop trying to make everybody happy because in the process of doing that, they will end up making nobody happy.

Cmdr Seageant Jezza came here to help clarify the situation.. should be thanked for that really and not criticised imo..

Can't really see what she's getting out of that myself

Maybe she is meta-gaming, maybe she is attempting to provoke a reaction on these forums, one that is already being fed.. who knows?

As no crimes have been committed, not even an interdiction, I'd say it is a little early to be calling the Lady Cmdr's actions "griefing"..

Merely being asked to leave can't be that distressing, can it ?

oooooh a Corvette at Sag A making threats... I just wet my best trousers...

What harm can a lone Corvette do? The thing can barely move. Unless someone goes to Sag A in a T9, almost any ship will have long boosted away and left by the time the Corvette recovers from the interdiction spin and starts moving into another players direction.

Anyway, taking 30 hours or more to get to Sag A in a Corvette just to annoy other people tells something about the kind of people who do it.

You may notice that I was very careful not to call her actions griefing.

I certainly discussed griefing in my post but my point was that we see a lot of threads like this and the use of the term is always subjective, whereas if FD are actually interested in taking any action to prevent it, the first thing that is required is an objective definition which can then be applied to the situation under consideration.

I would assume that she is certainly 'attempting to provoke a reaction'. If I go and throw a brick through my next door neighbour's window I would be doing the same thing. I doubt if many people would consider that to be a reasonable action on my part.

As for being 'asked to leave' I will assume you;re aware of the length of time a player will take to reach Sag A. If that's the intention of your trip, to travel to and see the centre of the galaxy, I would imagine some tool sitting there in a corvette telling your unarmed Asp to go away would in fact be fairly distressing.

You may have noticed the thread title includes the word griefer..

And yes, I am aware how long it takes to reach Sag A.. still, being asked to leave would not cause me any distress :)

I did but you were replying to a post that I made in it, which is why I assumed it was a direct comment. Misunderstanding resolved.

Well that's reassuring. Since the thread certainly suggests some players may not have the same sanguine attitude to it though, I would suggest that it serves to highlight the point I was making.

We all know that for any given action some players will shrug it off, some will have histrionics and some will fall somewhere between the two. The problem is that in a game which pupports to have rules about how players interact with each other, there has to be a line drawn somewhere to define what is and isn't acceptable, otherwise the existence of a rule is nothing more than an empty gesture to begin with. It would be impossible to enforce since there is no definition of the point at which a transgression occurs.

As I said, I'm not saying that I would categorise this as crossing a threshold myself; on the face of things it would certainly seem to fall into the category of being a move but so do many things that will never and should never elicit any kind of punishment. Again that's part of the problem though because it's just my opinion and I don't have the right to impose it on anybody else.

FD do have the right to impose a definition of 'griefing' onto the player base in general on account of it being their game; however they seem somewhat reticent to do so, or at least to actually consider what the requirements on players actually mean in any practical sense as they relate to specific in-game activities.

I tend to believe that greater clarity on issues such as this benefit everybody in the long run, simply because they define boundaries and remove ambiguity.

Firstly, Right of Conquest applies to nations, not to individuals. Is this mythical person declaring themselves a State? Also, Right of Conquest presumes that the conqueror is ensuring the peace of the conquered territory; pray tell, what unrest needs to be quelled?

Secondly, you're quibbling over griefing as a word. Overwhelming threat of force against an unarmed opponent not being griefing, especially when you say there is a "reason" but refuse offer the reason, is a rather semantic argument. The threat of force, in and of itself, for no specific reason, and a refusal to explain your actions, is certainly bullying whether it is griefing.

If it is an RP reason, RPing by yourself garners no respect from the people you inflict yourself on. RP is usually meant to be inclusive, not exclusive.

Someone travelled to Sag A*, just to kill the easiest targets around, an explorer with an extremely light and thus very vulnerable to damage.

wow, I don't know how to respond to that, that people get joy from griefing, or the fact that they invest so much time in the action of simply griefing.
That's just.....sad..

Ok everyone, my friend has declared sovereignty over the Sagittarius A* system. She is now the Queen of that system, and will be enforcing a new set of laws designed to protect all explorers in the system.

Anyone entering the system must have a permit, which can be acquired from the Sovereign of Sagittarius A* - ask her for details after you enter the system.

Anyone who is in the system without a permit will be asked to leave. Resistance is futile, and any hostile acts committed against the Sovereign will result in death.

If there are any questions, please let me know. Fly safe everyone :)

Challenge accepted. Does she have any medical conditions I should know about?
