Distant Worlds - A journey beyond the Abyss

I "benefited" from the SRV bug/teleport fix around WP8, and managed to keep myself from repairing or selling. I don't really have any moral or principled reason, it's just that i started this trip with the assumption that we had to go there and back to make any "material" benefit (ie money and first discovery tags), and to me at least it would feel less rewarding if i could use a mid-race savepoint.
Even though i say that, i still did "cheat" a bit by replenishing heatsinks (had used 2 out of 8, by mistake) and both SRVs even though i only lost one to the bug (though it seems that even if i hadn't cheated, it would still have ended up refilling itself).
What was the name of that station that used to jump around (Jaques station?), it would be great if we all arrived at bp to find a station waiting :D
I'm thinking that i still wouldn't repair or sell data, though i'd still dock :p

Anyway, the main point is getting to Beagle and that will still be an achievement for everyone (it'll still have been a lot of jumps however it'll have been done).

Regarding the solitude part, i think we'll be able to experience only a little bit of it. The people who did that didn't expect to see anyone for weeks or months, which won't be out case. So i salute all of you old explorers, and will do my best to get a feel of that on my return trip through the west part of the galaxy.

If you look at a 3D map of the plotted stars in EDDiscovery, you'll see the western part of the galaxy is very unexplored. At least one expedition should be tasked after BP to explore this region. I'm heading that way back, alone or with others.

As of now (12:50 GMT Thursday) I've not had to buckyball it back, teleport or return in anyway back to the bubble. Touch wood I don't have to do that! 88% hull, 97% power plant, all other modules 100%. Kudos to those who had to buckyball it back and return for repairs.

That is actually my return route. No idea how long it'll take me to get back to the bubble, but I intend on doing a lot of EDD2 plotting around there.

Made it to WP19 much earlier than I expected (Real LifeTM sometimes works in your favour). There were at least 15 Commanders in my instance when I landed. I was surprised there were so many already there! (43KLY out, it's heart-warming to see so many :)). Anyways, off on a mini expedition around the waypoint. Be back at Columbus Basin for the meet up on saturday evening :)

Oh, btw, for any SRV drivers. Bring snow chains. And a portion of a Neutron star for weight. It's damn slippy down there! ;)

That was my idea as well.
Going along that side seems like the obvious choice since everyone seems to be cutting trough the middle when exploring or along the route we are taking now.

well as long as that "hill" is less than 30 degrees... if it is more... then you better hope it's a short climb.

I strayed just over the edge of the plateau where everyone was parked by a few meters and nearly couldn't get back up. And that was a shallow slope indeed! Shame the SRV's don't have gears. That would have made things a damn site easier, hehehe.

It seems like everyone does as you say, go straight through the center and back, or goes clockwise (easterly) on the return route. I suppose it's human nature. We go with what we are used to, even if it's subconciously. I will be doing the same and going anti-clockwise (west) on the return route, Real LifeTM permitting. As I've stated before, my ultimate goal is to visit all the cardinal points in the galaxy. Why not continue with West :)

Thought you'd all like to see this pic I took a couple of days ago at WP18 (08/03 19:08). Does anyone recognise the remains of their SRV ?

Actually, it looks more like some kind of galloping robo-horse.

Looks like most of us are going back through the unexplored west side....that's my plan too

Aye, definitely. The fleet will be making history again:)
And yes my Conda has a Lavazza coffee machine fitted, I'll bring a flask to BP.
Can't wait to meet you guys there.
Here's a pic of a nice Ammonia world I found last night:

Sometimes my UTC+8 timezone is really annoying! I would have loved to have joined in on this!

I'm +10....unfortunately I'm only about 1500ly from the bubble after my swatted fly impression. Double bucky this weekend. 1st in RL [Sydney to Melbourne drive] and then in ED to at least get back to Sag.
But assuming I make it and catch up at some point I'm in for future climbs at a more convenient hour!

seems everyone start making plans for the way back ?
even the newsletter tells me "We are nearing the end now ladies and gents, and we are very close to our goal"

but actually my stats tell me we have just made around 60% of our trip...
true, that were already some Kylies, ntl, I prefer to not count the chickens before they are hatched ;)

( ...and plan to take the SC-arm for my way back :D )
