Are there going to be DLC for this game? and if so, will it be free? Only reason I ask is that if not (I'm sure not) is that I'd rather get Star Citizen since it has free expansions. Not to say this game looks bad of course

There will be expansions and, unless you're an Alpha or Premium Beta backer, you'll have to pay for them.
Perhaps you should consider the merit of the games in question, based on a more finished state. And then decide where the real value for money lies. You cannot truly put a price on a good time, for we live only once. You can dismiss a bad time though. But only when that time has come and gone. And we are not there. Yet.![]()
If you go to the store now and buy the DLC (US$50) + the Expansion Pass (US$50), then you're set. All future expansions are free. Earn in-game credits to buy new ships.
Whereas in Star Citizen, you buy the game (I picked it up back in November for US$30 or so), but if you want another ships (better handling, more cargo room, more hardpoints for weapons, etc.) then you'd better be ready to shell out US$55 to US$225 for the ship.
No thanks. I'll stick to ED.

You need to take into consideration the way both games have gone about their respective fundraising campaigns and what effect they could* have on the long term game. Yes SC has free expansions but considering a few hundred thousand backers have bought all sorts of ships and upgrades ready to unleash the day it goes live, if you're planning on getting the basic $30 package and playing it on the cheap you may find your early days in SC are woefully inadequate when every man and his dog has paid for a fair few steps higher up the ladder than you have. Depending on how competitive you are you may have to shell out a fair few dollars more at some point - unless you want to work your way up to the better ships and items the old fashioned way(that's the approach I'll be taking when I get SC, as I think that's where the most fun is anyway!).
ED is the more expensive game in the short term but it seems to have a much more level playing field with only a few not overly unbalanced perks for backers when it comes to starting out. With ED you're paying for extra gameworld content & features, not so much personal shortcuts to certain items, and as such (if you're that way inclined) I don't think the feeling to pay out extra real life money to 'catch up' will be there in the long run, or even possible.
Both games are subscription free, and for that reason I'll be an avid player of both - starting with the basics in both games and enjoying the journey to riches, not a shortcut :smilie:
* all speculative of course
However, you can pre-order Eliteangerous for £40 and expansion pass for additional £40, £80 total.
This is a very reasonable price for a game like ED and all the expansions. Very reasonable
Sorry, I have written wrong currency in my post the currency should be € and not £ as I have written. So the price is even more reasonable.
Copy that
I had to go alpha as i was so deeply indebt
Because i had so much fun with a cracked copy of Frontier Elite back in the days
Please Forgive me Dave

Well I'm already a backer of SC, was in it with the $40 before they ran out of alpha passes. And I"m pretty sure that expansions for multiplayer (PU) portion of SC will be free, with expansions to Squadron 42 being paid
