Formidine Rift... what is it?

Been following this intently since it picked back up. I am currently returning to the game after a few week break, and would love to participate in the search and exploration of the rift in any way I can, and I'm sure I'm not alone. Is there a dedicated private group, or is the current exploration team just playing in open/solo? Also, has anyone brought a UA out to the rift? If not I'm willing to try my hand at it.

So Lorrad got me looking at the Dark Wheel logo ....

Im seeing some interesting angles ... Wasn't able to fit it to a 26 or 36 alphabet wheel ... (kept getting lines right in-between letters ...)
But if we look at Degrees ... and Im starting from the inner moving to the outer in a clockwise fashion. I get 150/35/170/325/70/220/180 degrees ... Circle is a bit wonky ... but I think those are the angles :)
Any thoughts ?

The Dark Wheel logo was player created and only adopted by Drew as a nod to that individual's group for Kahina's "last" Galnet post at a time when Drew thought it would mark the end of her involvement with the game. There is no mystery encoded in it.

Ya I thought it was something like that ... but couldn't remember ... ah well - was a fun experiment atleast

This is indeed correct though the group (Children of Raxxla) is genuinely in game as minor faction. Sorry, I hadn't spotted that comment about the logo. Kahina's story was halted last year due to 'issues' with the way Galnet was being edited and sequenced. Those have since been resolved and thus the story continues. Clues as to the Rift itself are in-game and in-book, along with all the other ED storylines. There might be hints on social media/forum/reddit etc, but you should focus resources on Galnet, In game and In book as 'canon' to the story. If it hasn't happened there, I would say it hasn't happened. Fan-fiction, regardless of quality, is not canon, and that includes my own stories prior to ED.

My website articles should be treated as 'summaries' of the canon for convenience, there are no direct 'clues' continued therein. These articles were written to make us much background lore available as possible within the restrictions of my NDA. Thus any info there is already available somewhere else - hopefully I've just made it more accessible.

Hope that's clear. :) There are no clues embedded in this message either. Otherwise you'll probably run out of tinfoil. ;)

Cheers,

Drew.

btw. I will be partaking in an 'AMA' over on Reddit sometime during May, so that will be a good opportunity to frame questions on the story thus far. I'm hopeful you'll have more material and be a little further forward by that point.

Just read this entire thread from start to finish in the course of a couple hours. All I can say is...

WOW!!!

So we have a game with..
book lore that it stays true to,
characters from book lore active in the game,
mysteries that are so cryptic teams of people have spent years and still haven't solved them,
and MANY mysteries and related details,..

I'm glad I bought this game. Those who think this game is boring ^^^

I've always described Elite as the "thinking persons' space sim". Welcome, Commander.

Cheers,

Drew.

So basically we need to scour GalNet up and down. Hmm. Sounds like a challenge. But knowing the time frame for the articles would help a lot.

As for Tinfoil. My wife already misses 2 rolls of baking foil and I pretend that i have nothing to do with it...

I mean no disrespect to you or anyone else involved, but Elite's lore is actually pretty poor, especially compared to some other sci-fi games out there. Like EVE, Mass Effect, Halo or StarCraft.

That is true, I don't consider the "core" as meaning the galactic core. I was mainly just including things that Drew had hinted at himself.. And as I stated, there are more clues in the book and in other lore, but none of those have specifically led to an answer. Such as Seven Veils, could be a clue, or just the name of the ship. We have theories on what it could hint to, but nothing concrete.

If that makes sense? Mainly just wanted to post relevant links and give a quick summary. But I may take the time to flush out the post more and include some of the other stuff. This thread is a beast to sift through xD
Hello Acheron. Sorry, didn't mean to undermine your work. On the contrary, we need to have all the info we have in one single place to be able to make ties easily, and your post is a great start! The problem is where to put it so that it easy accessible. Also, I think that all info should go in there, even that which has been debunked...

I commented on the 'core' thingy as it has come up several times lately and my personal thought is that it was meant as a hint to bring people back on track. As we don't really fully understand the problem yet, we can't find a solution! Also, we don't know really what we are searching, thus it's difficult to find it!

That's true, but they are working hard to evolve that aspect of the game and Drew specifically is doing a great job with it! Mysteries like this bring a lot of depth to those involved at least. I'm still trying to find the bottom in this one...

No dedicated private group as far as I know of. I'm always in open anyway so far from the bubble. 12.000ly out to the rim I sure don't expect griefers...

Here is a archive of all GalNet articles if any one wants to brave it too. This might take a while...

Edit: from one of the articles I found this:

17 MAY 3301
In other news, the Senator’s ship was confirmed to have had some significant modifications made to it recently, including a state of the art fuel scoop and a custom built Gutamaya discovery scanner.

In a later article the ship mods were said to be fake. And the ship was left behind when she vanished, I think.

From latter article:

Lady Kahina’s Imperial Courier, the ‘Seven Veils’, still at the Capitol spaceport, was impounded and examined. It was found to be completely stripped of all valuable equipment, with the modifications made at Avalon shipyards discovered to be carefully crafted fakes.

Pretty sure this means that the real mods are still in use.

Ahhh thanks that makes sense now :)

Okay... I've been thinking about the "core" of the problem. I've come to two conclusions as the what this is:

1. The core of the problem is, of course, the Formidine Rift itself.

and

2. The core refers to our galactic core.

Okay... by now we all know that Formidine is an ablative case of the Latin "Formido" which means fear. Being ablative it mean moving away from something... but moving away from what exactly? Well... moving away from the Core of our galaxy.

What is our galaxy? Well... it's the Milky Way. That name, "Milky Way" comes to us from Latin: "Via Lactea".

"Formidine Via Lactea" literally means "Fear of the Milky Way" in such a way that whomever is afraid of the galaxy is moving away from it.

My conclusion is that whatever (whoever) we find in the rift is out there because they are trying to escape from something. Whatever is out there is out there because it is as far as it can get from whatever is driving this fear. The question is what will we find first: Those who are trying to escape this fear or that which is the cause of this fear in the first place?

Oh... and now that the tinfoil hats are firmly affixed: Drew Wagar/Dark Wheel. DW. Coincidence? I think not! :)

Lactose intolerant aliens or Vegans are in the rift.

But on a serious note. Salome is heading to the other side of the galaxy... Related?
