Dying to know how you will have optimised terrain generation enough to do it on the XB1 GPU. May I suggest a tech talk or another livestream from the graphics team?

think your marketing team is a sleep Gary. Lead up to the division release it was on YouTube and the old tellybox. For elite it was only the PC lot like Chaos Wolf or the mighty jingles that I became aware of elite in its current state, I had to dig up info to see if it was coming to the Xbox and that was limited info. Hell the day it was released I was wondering in game and even there it wasn't being sold as a didgital purchase or being advertised at all. You are not going to get the guys coming to play if you don't get out there and say look at me, buy my stuff !We are continuing to work on bringing Horizons, PaintJobs/Bobbleheads, Private Groups, Language Support and various other features to the Xbox version to bring it in line with the PC. Information on when these will be released will be communicated via our Community and Marketing Teams.
As we know the exact GPU the game is running on, we can build the compute shaders in advance and have made specific shader optimisations for the Xbox.
I totally agree with the sentiment already expressed by everyone in this thread. I see a lot of GPP vets in here too, so I know all you guys have been dealing with this kind of thing in one form or another since June of last year, just like me.
I think the biggest cause for the loss of player numbers on the XB1 version in particular is the unprecedented gap between much needed and expected bug fixes/client updates! XB1 gamers are simply not accustomed to buying a game, finding it has some pretty significant bugs in it, and then watching the MONTHS slowly tick by... 1, 2, 3..... 4! With still no sign of an update in sight! Not even a firm release date for such an update in the future!
XBL gamers are just not exposed to these HUGE gaps between client updates when a game has significant issues that most would consider game breaking, or at the very least, worthy of an expedited patch!
I've personally been a Gold Member of XBL since before the service was launched publicly. 14 years this coming August. In these nearly 14 years as a VERY active XBL gamer, I have NEVER owned an XBL title with this level of issues that was allowed to go anywhere close to four months without an update! It just doesn't normally happen on this platform, and I think that THIS, coupled with the total silence from FD regarding this very same issue is responsible for more and more players throwing in the towel and moving on to other XB1 games, or other consoles they may own, such as the PS4. And one thing anyone in the gaming industry knows all too well...
Once your game starts loosing community members, it is VERY hard to ever get those numbers back up to their original (Pre "Frustration = Player Apathy/Abandonment") levels. Its usually the beginning of the end at that point.
And speaking of games on the PS4...
If we are still dealing with this same situation when No Man's Sky arrives in June, FD may as well cover the furniture and lock the doors to this forum, cause there ain't going to be anyone left in here! Leave alone a significant number of original community members still trusting enough in FD and the future of ED on the XB1 to lay out an additional amount of $$ for Horizons!
I'm finding myself beginning to question whether or not I am going to buy Horizons on day one. 5 Months ago that purchase was a forgone conclusion! Not anymore!
Sure hope FD realizes the level of damage these last 3-4 months of seemingly endless waiting has done to the moral of this once vibrant community of ED fans. If Horizons FLOPS on the XB1 due to lackluster sales to the existing player base, I seriously doubt anyone in this community is going to be the least bit surprised.
But I also wouldn't be at all surprised if FD never sees it coming. That is how tone-deaf and out of touch with the XB1 community they have allowed themselves to become in 2016.![]()

As long as the bugs are being fixed, that's good enough for me. The bugs for me are not that terrible, and I can work around most of them. I know others have had a worse time with bugs than me. Looking forward to Horizons, will get it as soon as it comes out.[big grin]
But what about the bugs. I really don't care if Horizons doesn't appear until next year, and don't care if paint jobs and bobble heads ever appear, but the game-breaking bugs are a huge issue and really should be the no.1 priority over Horizons, bobble heads and anything else.
We are also working on fixing bugs, prioritising the most frequently occurring ones such as the System Map crash which is fixed as part of the next Update.
I appriciate Gary telling us that the shaders aren't that big of a problem but as others have pointed out its been an awful long time without the bug fixing and still no date in sight. :/
