*Tumble weed*

Dying to know how you will have optimised terrain generation enough to do it on the XB1 GPU. May I suggest a tech talk or another livestream from the graphics team?

Great Idea!
Would be intresting to see what challenges FD had to overcome to get ED & Horizons to to the XB1.

Doc_Holiday what constant server crashes?
The only connection problems I have had over the last few months has been XB live not ED related.

I have a funny feeling no man's sky ain't gonna be that great as there doesn't seem to be a lot of real world physics in the space/flight mechanics.
This is what makes elite great to play, for me anyway.

Have faith cmdrs, Horizons is on the horizon and not too far away at that.
A little time in new York always leaves me yearning for the vastness of space...

For what it's worth PC users are the guinea pigs they get it first to see how good it is and after they they refine it and polish it then release it on other platforms that are less forgiving of corners being cut. It's a typical development cycle release on the platforms of least resistance to the code then polish and release for all others.

@Brett C I think they want something more concrete than that saying bugs are gonna be sorted in the next updates won't inspire them they need a time frame or at least how far along the next patch is and whats in it.

ED still has the draw for me,on it most days and have been since GPP.
Sure it has its problems but I am ok with that.
In fact to me ED seems to be more stable at the moment than it has been in ages.

We are continuing to work on bringing Horizons, PaintJobs/Bobbleheads, Private Groups, Language Support and various other features to the Xbox version to bring it in line with the PC. Information on when these will be released will be communicated via our Community and Marketing Teams.

think your marketing team is a sleep Gary. Lead up to the division release it was on YouTube and the old tellybox. For elite it was only the PC lot like Chaos Wolf or the mighty jingles that I became aware of elite in its current state, I had to dig up info to see if it was coming to the Xbox and that was limited info. Hell the day it was released I was wondering in game and even there it wasn't being sold as a didgital purchase or being advertised at all. You are not going to get the guys coming to play if you don't get out there and say look at me, buy my stuff !

As we know the exact GPU the game is running on, we can build the compute shaders in advance and have made specific shader optimisations for the Xbox.

Ok, you're hand-coding the terrain-generating compute shaders for the XBox build. And I see that the 7790-equivalent XBox CPU is quite a bit more powerful than the PC Horizons minimum spec AMD 7240HD GPU, so I'm confident Horizons will hit your 1080p30 performance target.

I totally agree with the sentiment already expressed by everyone in this thread. I see a lot of GPP vets in here too, so I know all you guys have been dealing with this kind of thing in one form or another since June of last year, just like me. :(

I think the biggest cause for the loss of player numbers on the XB1 version in particular is the unprecedented gap between much needed and expected bug fixes/client updates! XB1 gamers are simply not accustomed to buying a game, finding it has some pretty significant bugs in it, and then watching the MONTHS slowly tick by... 1, 2, 3..... 4! With still no sign of an update in sight! Not even a firm release date for such an update in the future! :(

XBL gamers are just not exposed to these HUGE gaps between client updates when a game has significant issues that most would consider game breaking, or at the very least, worthy of an expedited patch!

I've personally been a Gold Member of XBL since before the service was launched publicly. 14 years this coming August. In these nearly 14 years as a VERY active XBL gamer, I have NEVER owned an XBL title with this level of issues that was allowed to go anywhere close to four months without an update! It just doesn't normally happen on this platform, and I think that THIS, coupled with the total silence from FD regarding this very same issue is responsible for more and more players throwing in the towel and moving on to other XB1 games, or other consoles they may own, such as the PS4. And one thing anyone in the gaming industry knows all too well...

Once your game starts loosing community members, it is VERY hard to ever get those numbers back up to their original (Pre "Frustration = Player Apathy/Abandonment") levels. Its usually the beginning of the end at that point.

And speaking of games on the PS4...

If we are still dealing with this same situation when No Man's Sky arrives in June, FD may as well cover the furniture and lock the doors to this forum, cause there ain't going to be anyone left in here! Leave alone a significant number of original community members still trusting enough in FD and the future of ED on the XB1 to lay out an additional amount of $$ for Horizons! ;)

I'm finding myself beginning to question whether or not I am going to buy Horizons on day one. 5 Months ago that purchase was a forgone conclusion! Not anymore!

Sure hope FD realizes the level of damage these last 3-4 months of seemingly endless waiting has done to the moral of this once vibrant community of ED fans. If Horizons FLOPS on the XB1 due to lackluster sales to the existing player base, I seriously doubt anyone in this community is going to be the least bit surprised.

But I also wouldn't be at all surprised if FD never sees it coming. That is how tone-deaf and out of touch with the XB1 community they have allowed themselves to become in 2016. :(

right there with you man your 14 years im 13(this august) ive seen a ton of changes I worry for elite I love the game
and I also kinda sorta worry about our console waiting times this long are troublesome

As long as the bugs are being fixed, that's good enough for me. The bugs for me are not that terrible, and I can work around most of them. I know others have had a worse time with bugs than me. Looking forward to Horizons, will get it as soon as it comes out.[big grin]

Hey Gary I'd rather you guys fixed what we have before adding new content ! Personally when horizons happens I'm going to wait six months to see if the new (or even old) bugs are sorted before I commit to it !!
But nice to finally see a response aye cheers ;)

But what about the bugs. I really don't care if Horizons doesn't appear until next year, and don't care if paint jobs and bobble heads ever appear, but the game-breaking bugs are a huge issue and really should be the no.1 priority over Horizons, bobble heads and anything else.

+1
The bugs are workable for me too.
No where near as frustrating as Xbox live issues.

We are also working on fixing bugs, prioritising the most frequently occurring ones such as the System Map crash which is fixed as part of the next Update.

/yawn

hmm? what's this? still no news? no release dates? no pricing? no details I'm going back into hibernation where I was having this beautiful dream of a post apocalyptic New York.

I appriciate Gary telling us that the shaders aren't that big of a problem but as others have pointed out its been an awful long time without the bug fixing and still no date in sight. :/

Yeah, I know....... I play the same Retail build at home (and at lunchtime) as everyone here does and hit some of the same issues, so understand the frustrations a lack of date causes. I'm sure that the Community and Marketing Teams will be making announcements in due course about what we have been working on.
Now, I'm off to Wilkes Orbital with another batch of Heike Tea before the CG deadline runs out.....
