After reviewing this thread I'd like to make a couple of points.

1) Can forum members please use the multiquote system, it helps to keep the forum tidier, if you want you can edit your existing post, they each have a limit of 15,000 characters I believe so there should be more than enough room to put your post across.

2) We (the Mod team) have noticed that there has been a increase in the number of personal comments i.e name calling etc recently where we have to go in and edit a post to remove comments.

This needs to stop now.

We are all passionate about the game and should be able to put that across without resulting to insulting each other. if it continues warnings and or infractions will be issued.

The forum is growing at a very fast rate and we rely on you all to show a bit of restraint at times, if you feel someone has broken the forum rules Use the report function instead of continuing the argument.

So please, discuss, deliberate, digest, and disagree all you like. Just consider what you post and how you put your point across and what the outcome might be.

Thanks everyone.

I hope your wife gets better, sounds a crappy situation.

I don't agree with your comments about the play style of other users.
They weren't to know your personal situation.
You don't know their personal situation.

You can't expect people to play online games like you do or you'd like them to. If this is going to lead to upsetting you it's better to stay away.
They paid for the game just as much as you did and they can do as they please. As long as they're aren't cheating or hacking then it's fair game.
If FD want to curb any sort behaviour it's up to them to do not the players.

The wonderful thing about Elite Dangerous is you can stop that. You simply put the person in question on your ignore list.

A player also has the option to add players to an Ignore List which does the following:
  • Removes any friendship between the players automatically (players can’t be friends with players they ignore)
  • Ignores all communication from them in game
  • Ignores any friend requests from them
  • Is active across multiple gaming session until changed by the player (this is different from the options presented in the above sections as they only last as long as the current gaming session)
  • People on others ignore lists will not be favoured if a choice exists when match making players together
    • If all players in a session have the same player ignored then that player will never be able to join that session
    • If at least one player is neutral or friends with the ignored player above then they will be able to join that session providing there is no better suited players trying to get in at the same time when only one slot is available
  • If a person earns a bounty their ignore list and friend preferences won’t affect matchmaking, and bounty hunters will still be able to encounter the player, even if the bounty hunter is on the player’s ignore list
  • If a player is in a session with another player on their ignore list they will still receive messages relating to that players in game actions and pre-canned dialogue, such as declarations of piracy
  • If a player follows another player’s hyperspace trail, the ignore rules cannot be applied to them. The players will join their next session as a group
  • Players Ignore lists are based on player accounts, not player characters

Indeed .. What happened was that the op was ganked.

There is NOTHING you can do about that .. It's not fair, but it's going to happen even in release. It's not griefing, as grouping up to ensure victory (safety in numbers) is a smart, tactical move.

Now, blowing people up without a bounty is murder - that needs to be discouraged, but not prevented.

The ignore feature doesn't guarantee you won't meet, but lowers the chances probably to the point you rarely meet if at all.

Not in the alpha. Which is why there should be a little more decorum at this juncture. :)

Zelada is an anarchy so I'm not surprised it doesn't have a robust response to anti-social behaviour. I hope it's like that in the game itself.

Looks like it's going to be a dangerously diverse galaxy.
Excellent.

You're right KINGSTON; After seeing Noctivagus post, I pretty much turned agressively negative. My experience with Eve influenced much of that.

We have to see what FD will implement regarding 3 or more griefing 1 player. And that will come in the Beta's and the Gammas. So although I'm not sure how to handle the Multiquote system in this Forum; my apology goes out to all who found me overly dramatic and negative to the direction of this game. My opinions may be presumptive and I'll wait till later if its necessary to make them again. Again, my apologies.

OP, very glad your wife is better and at home!

Right now there are few things we can do but if you feel there is a repeating situation you do not wish to deal with (like the original example) take a couple minutes and switch servers to the other server. You will no longer have to deal with it. This will change soon and we will be testing a more complete system.

I'm just so disappointed and frustrated to constantly hear people complaining about perceived griefing. I've played Alpha since the first day and I have never been 'griefed'. What this does seem to reveal is that people take this sort of thing way too seriously and are looking at it the wrong way. Given the demographic of many backers here I find the reaction to be quite startling.

I don't want to be overly confrontational, but its a game, why are you getting upset about it? Alpha testing is exactly that, when we also consider that in the full game there are a multitude of ways to avoid other people - even to the extreme of setting yourself up to play so you'll never see another player I can't help but think people have become so hysterical about having their ship blown up that it borders on being juvenile.

I fear this endless moaning and calling individuals out on the forums is going to result in the developers completely sanitising the game further than it already will be. Its Elite Dangerous, not Elite Stawberry Shortcake Land.

Come on..

Good Man!!!
