Just tried my first planetary landing. Huh.

Mine says "hold key not bound to takeoff" but then I didn't have a keyboard key bound, just my joystick POV hat up as I use the landing overrides for thrust up/down/right/left. I would prefer it to say vertical thrust to lift off.
Maybe there is a way to trick the game to think one of my buttons is called something like ''virtical thrust'' I will have to look into it.

SRV boarding instructions are on page 157 of the manual that is linked in the launcher.
There is some useful reading in the Horizons section that explains the new HUD instruments as well.
Also links to training videos on the last few pages

Backer. Back in game. Tried planetary. For heaven's sake FD, why do you have to make everything so opaque? Had a little run around, but getting that buggy back under the quickly purchased Cobra I risked for this escapade, and getting it back on board. Horrible. Terrible.

Stop being so damned clever and think about the gameplay, never mind any sense of reality.

Did someone there not go to university - and is trying to compensate? Genuinely smart people keep things simple.

(flame away inevitable fanboys saying 'it is easy', press button X etc.) :)

Huh.

Did you watch the tutorial videos, they are pretty comprehensive?

The SRV one explains how to deploy and dock -> https://youtu.be/sV49hyUgVYU?t=416

It is already pretty poor form to say "Stop being so damned clever and think about the gameplay, never mind any sense of reality., Did someone there not go to university - and is trying to compensate? Genuinely smart people keep things simple."
But worse if you did not even look at the tutorials, which explain everything quite well in a step by step manner

While I do agree there's little to no gameplay...

And I don't think I qualify as a fan-boy at the slightest...

It's easy bro, learn it.

The "board ship" light doesn't come on unless you approach from a specific angle that isn't marked in any way. I spent half an hour trying to get back on my T-6 until I realized that I had to come from the other direction and drive around a freaking center-aligned landing gear that was blocking my way in order to actually board.

Not sure what your problem is with this, but you most certainly do not have to approach from a specific angle.

Huh.

It's a piece of cake the whole landing, SRV thing.

Send me your address and I'll send you some cakes ;)

But, from these posts, seems a lot of people have had problems with this..

>>Send me your address and I'll send you some cakes

Send me yours and I'll send you a medal for being so clever at space games and docking imaginary buggies.

So, someone else who doesn't understand the sheer and oblique opacity of what could have been *not* frustrating. But hey, I'm just a post-grad physicist, maybe I'm mistaking my own frustration for personal stupidity..

You look at the Steam reviews, and there are a lot of people like me..

And yet more evidence many people don't get this.. Need I go on?

So do you want a big flashing Neon sign? The alignment confirmation is in two separate places on the SRV.

How easy can it get, drive the SRV (from any angle) into the big flashing holographic display, confirm alignment and board the ship, the ship will auto rotate the SRV if you try to dock from an awkward angle. Two frikin pages for something so simple :/

Duh! All that frustration, and I was imagining it all. Thanks planet-buggy expert :)

Yes - with your big face on it to remind me to be cool and clever.

(Ahem.)

Kinda reminds me of my younger sister, she drove my car to work with the handbrake on.. Then tried to blame the car for her mistake.

Just take some responsibility, you didn't understand how something worked, now that it's been explained you can see it was a simple error on your part.. You don't need to be a frikin expert, just pay attention or seek help if you don't understand something

Oh, just for fun, I used my insanely brilliant mind to perform an ancient technique called 'RTFM':

I love the idea that merely living in Cambridge makes you highly educated!

Does living in Washington automatically make you a statesman? Does living in Florence make you an artist? ;)

I lived and worked in Cambridge for years, and trust me, not only does it have it's fair share of morons but many of them go to the university.

Thing is, being educated doesn't make you smart, it just makes you educated. I work with a few morons who happen to hold legitimate PhDs. Don't get me wrong, they are great in their chose fields, but I wouldn't trust any of them to plug in a toaster.

Experiance and knowledge and know-how trump a diploma every single time.
