Legal log out

I don't see why. You bought the game just like everyone else, and you can play in any way you see fit within the game. Of course, it's up to everyone else if they want to play with you. *

* Generic "you" of course, nothing personal meant.

As long as they play within the rules, it's fine with me. 15 sec legitimate CL doesn't sit well with me, but it's still within the rules, I just put whoever does it on my KoS list, just as some people put me on their list for being a pirate.

If it was 30 sec, then I'd be willing to give it much more respect as a rule, but right now it's just acquiescence.

Can't wait for someone to tell me my existence in the ED universe is immersion breaking for some people (which I'm sure my personal hate club will jump on it within seconds).

We started a private group called "the dog-who-must-not-be-named anti-existence league" so we'd have a reality where you couldn't heartlessly shatter our immersion. Long live the great feline! Down with the canines. /SARCASM

The silly thing is to do it on Reddit, there are plenty of third party sites that do the job perfectly fine.

You might want to spend 5 seconds (that's what it took me) on checking a) why the original subreddit was banned and b) that another one is up and active.

Oh, that works too. I have my own source of combat logger list, but I guess an additional one doesn't hurt, thank you for the information.

If you feel the need to log out in the middle of combat why play in Open at all? You were in combat and logged out of the game. Legal or not, that's combat logging in my book.

If you can't run and can't fight your way out, you use your rebuy to get your ship back. That, or don't play in Open. In my mind, it's pretty cut and dried. PG and Solo are for those who shy away from uninvited PvP (of whatever type.)

I've used the save and quit option when in combat when someone knocks on my door, once it was because an old lady had collapsed outside, most of the time it's double glazing salesmen, I have double glazing, they feel my wrath.

Ive never used it just because I was losing.

That is all.

In my opinion what you did is perfectly legal if a little bit on the lame side, you could have high waked in the same amount of time. As an opposing point of view I also find people who keep and/or maintain a KoS list to be total weenies and super lame. How dare anyone remove their pixels from my universe before I can pew pew them??!? That's it I will add them to a KoS list so that way I can GRIEF them and at the same time try and legitimize it......yeah...sorry but that is totally weenie lame.

I was blown out almost two times while exiting obsidian orbital this morning. One time a cmdr shot my db explorer down with 3 charged shots and another time I was pulled out of sc just to be shot at.
That last time I logged out.

I'm sick and tired of those nosense pirates that just blow you up for no reason at all. I have no faction, I'm an explorer, I don't have any cargo. Why attack me?
If only there were some rpg elements to it, like, idk, people interested in my cargo or threatening me via chat to eject something, but no. Just bored players who enjoy mayhem.

Some cmdrs just want to watch the galaxy burn

Indeed, hence they are the aforementioned weenie lame kind of player. When I get bored I take a break from the game....I don't set out to spoil others fun to relieve boredom. Unfortunately some others choose not to just find something else to play for a while. :(

There are plenty of reasons why Cmdrs would apose the current barnicles CG, its a pity that FD dont provide a way to opose them other that blow the hell up out of everyone you see.

It's also quite lame to think flying in a defenseless ship loaded with loot is an intelligent idea. Why do you think there are aircraft carriers stationed around the worlds largest ports and oil tanker lanes, or armored vehicles who carry money from businesses to the bank.
Maybe one day ED will allow us to hire NPC wings to help protect a cargo ship and make the NPC tough with teeth so the attacking cmdr's can't ignore them. Giving the cargo ship time to escape.

Huh... so basically narcissism?

Rationality doesn't follow here:

Scenario 1:

Another player is engaged with you: [Check] Unchecked
Someone knocks on the door: [Check] Unchecked
Answering the door takes priority: [Check] Unchecked
Game takes priority: Check [Unchecked]

Spending 15 seconds logging out seems irrational since there can very much be an old lady collapsed outside that needs help. Not to mention logging out in such a fashion causes discontent from the player/players interacting with you in the game.

Conclusion: You wasted time trying to log out of the game, you caused discontent to other players.

Rational solution: Leave the computer immediately since the door is important, you'll answer the door promptly, and the player/players you interacted with doesn't watch a ship vanish out of thin-air.

Scenario 2:

Another player is engaged with you: [Check] Unchecked
Someone knocks on the door: [Check] Unchecked
Answering the door takes priority: Check [Unchecked]
Game takes priority: [Check] Unchecked

You should be high-waking out of the engagement and safely log out, since this way the player you interacted with knows that you used in-game mechanics to retreat from the engagement.

Conclusion: Both parties are content.

So I'm confused, which one is more important to you? The game or the door?

Your line of thought can only be explained by pure self-interest:

"I don't want to lose progress in the game, I don't want to get in trouble with FD by alt+f4, I want to answer the door since it might be important."

So what you're explaining to us is basically your pure self-interest takes precedence, I would prefer that you put it in a plain fashion.

I am one of the few who think that the destruction of barnacles is a bad idea RP wise but I wouldn't just blow up empty ships to prevent them. I had an idea to start peaceful protests at the barnacle sites but haven't really had the time (and most people seem to do it in solo anyways).

That would be pretty sweet, here's hoping.

#1 Whether or not they insulted you, you ruined their game experience by logging-out.

#2 if you don't want to get attacked by other players go to solo, this is a terrible excuse to ruin others enjoyment, you would have said my computer bugged or yadiyada, I would understand but in this case you're a triple A grade combat logger.

#3 if someone insult you and you get offended report them, don't combat log.

#4 combat logging is not an excuse in this situation, you went in open while knowing the consequences, shame on you.

#5 PVP is part of the game, combat logging with the 15sec logging is no different from killing task when you are about to lose a ship in this particular situation.

The difference is that one is explicitly allowed by FD, the other is not. Stop confusing your opinion with reality. ;)

Doesn't matter he still combat logged in a fight because he was LOSING, he had no valid reason to log-out in this situation. Put yourself in the shoes of the 2 other players, what do you think is the first thing they said after he logged?

The 15 sec log-out cooldown should be removed from open and only available in solo/private in my opinion.

There is no reason or difference between killing task or to combat log with a 15 sec cooldown timer in a perfectly legitimate PVP situation because the end result is the same.
