1. You enabled PvP mode
2. You got blown up by another player

stop complaining. Seriously.

Yeah. As i said: open is a lost cause anyway Not really useful for any other thing than getting ganked or ganking yourself.
Any other gameplay is better suited to go to a mode with less ats and more reasonable players like Mobius or other player groups.

So am i safe to assume that you would to the same as the Ops killer?
Just to know which one i have to put on my block list that i dont accidentally run into them ever, you know (for example while fuelratting which is one of the few activities which occasionally need open to work)?

You have a cylon as an avatar and complain about people being ats and blowing people up. What?

Actually i am not complaining. Simply stating that Open has no more use for any player that dont want to go down guns blazing all the day or hide in some obscure spot.

Kudos tho for even knowning how a real Cylon looked back then. And no, my character is a Cylon like Starbucks friend. One that "Deserted" and lived with the Galactica crew.
There was even a german fanfic of a few 10 pages that was written (in german) about my character. Sadly its lost in time.

Sorry to hear about your luck. Killing a parked ship seems kind of low.. Have some rep to make you feel better :)

I don't agree with definitions.
My definition of Open would more likely be: Play with people from around the world, where the encounter may be friendly or not-so-friendly.

I don't see why it has to be about "enjoying PvP" at all.

My definition of Group : Same as open, but members only. (Some rules may apply)

Solo. Well, exactly the same as yours..

???
That's pretty much what I said.
Open... For players who enjoy pvp, note the comma after that. I didn't say ONLY pvp, I didn't say EXCLUSIVE to pvp. I just said enjoy pvp,(comma) and then -
Random encounters with other players. All around the world is pretty much given.
Sorry for not clarifying that.
Likeminded players with informal rules = Members only (Some rules may apply).

Yup. Pretty much what I said.

I play almost entirely in open.

Some observations:

I have met a few "types" of players: The ones that get added to my friends list, the ones that say "Hi" and are never seen again and the ones who get added to my KOS list.

The vast majority I have met are friendly. Community Goals have brought a number of CMDRs together.

One pirated me. That was actually fun.

One shot me in my SRV. That was rude.

I've been playing since Beta days.

But - back on topic, really - I feel the Meta Alloys CG is a hotbed of anti-MA farming pilots.

And it engenders selfish actions, since more than 1 CMDR at a barnacle site means fewer MAs for everyone. So therefore more chance to be blown up.

But as they're uninhabited systems, whether law and order matters were sorted in occupied space or not, we would still have no "security" measures protecting pilots.

So. Er. Yep.

Just report him !

Reiteration of player harassment rules
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=237761

Hi everyone,

In light of recent issues relating to the way a small collective of players have been approaching and targeting specific private groups and other community events such as charity livestreams, we wanted to reinforce an important part of the existing rules regarding in-game harassment that every player agrees to when creating their account.

We wanted to reiterate some examples regarding the rules of Player harassment. If a player has been blocked from a private group, or a group/individual has taken every step possible to remove a player from their gameplay, then attempting to circumvent this in any fashion is a serious offense and action will be taken accordingly. Attempting to re-establish contact with an individual who has blocked a player through secondary accounts or other methods of attempting to evade the block are against the rules. Action can and will be taken against both the accounts in question and the main accounts of players that we deem to be harassing players through this method.

In addition taking action such as seeking out and targeting specific players purely for the purpose of being disruptive, to cause offence, or to upset players within the community can also be considered harassment. A perfect example of this is deliberately attempting to disrupt public livestreams such as the charity ones mentioned before. This includes, but is not limited to, the capturing of footage and releasing it publically in an attempt to create upset or gain notoriety through the actions listed above.

We have previously stated, and it remains true, that Frontier are not able to manage group specific rules. Players considered to be breaking these group rule sets as established by group moderators should be removed from those groups by said moderators. In addition, running a livestream in Open does invite the potential for players to approach and impact your gameplay and running a livestream in which you are declaring war on another group and they come and take action against you is reasonable and should be expected.

Ultimately it’s about context. The support team can and will review these kinds of offences and will be taking action against accounts that set their entire purpose on harassing players and groups in this way. They are currently investigating a number of incidents and will be dealing directly with any parties involved.

The Frontier Support team take the protection and safety of the community very seriously, they strive to ensure that the game remains fair and friendly. If you feel the need to report an incident, please do get in contact with support via our support site at https://support.frontier.co.uk - please include as much detail of the event as possible.

You can see a copy of the rules that everyone signs up to by creating an account, including harassment, here:

Thanks for reading.

I actually went to Maia in solo mode and didn't go in open until I'd reached and landed on Merope 5c. I switched to open thinking that I'd find another commander who'd be looking for the Barnacle too and wing up. What can I say, that 3 minutes I was in open cost me around 10 hours gametime just so some manchild somewhere could let off some steam.

Won't be making that mistake again.

I'm confused what you were doing for 10 hours. Heavy exploration all the way to Merope? There's a station up there so I'm confused how anyone heading to the Barnacles could lose much gametime.

Anyway, a similar thing happened to me. This isn't really @OP since he got attacked planetside, just my experience there. I went to the Barnacles in open in an exploration ASP hoping to meet a bunch of players. I was shot down by a Clipper above Merope that was running a Blockade. I was piping hot for a couple days. I went to Solo to get my screenshots instead.

However, after a while I grew to appreciate that encounter. It was my first hostile PVP encounter and changed the way I approach the game. I saved up and got my own Clipper, armed it up as an armed trader, and started doing Community Goals.

If I go back to Merope or wherever the next excitement is, I'll be ready for a hostile CMDR. And the one that got me at Merope I'll remember... if I run into him again I'll attack on site (probably lose, but I'll give him a run for it).

I very rarely play in open. Last time for the Abraham Lincoln event.

When I do, I know that I can be attacked by other players anywhere, so I don't take out expensive ships, for which the rebuy cost would hurt me.
So far, I haven't attacked anyone, but I would not rule that out for the future.

Fuel Rats can work in private groups as well. Form a group with the refuelee, make them read the fine print (attacking a fuel rat is forbidden within this group, and may lead to consequences such as combat logging). No need to stay in open. That said, fortunately, I never needed them, so I don't know their procedures.

Thats exaclty what i am saying: Open is a lost cause. Its for mindlessly attacking other players at any gaterhing point and otherwise resembles solo.
So thanks but no thanks, thats a mode thats simply labelled wrong. Its no longer "Open for all" Its simply grown to be a big Deathmatch arena map
without any interaction besides exchange of bullets/shieldcells.

I know that group thing for ratting. Doesent work all the time because some Players cant be coaxed into a PG. Sometimes you have just to go open or let the client down. (Which is out of the question, we dont let clients down.)

Despite people saying Open is only for FFA DM I actually do my trade, exploration, scavenging, and protesting all in open. I guess some people play Ironman, some just play in open, and others are content with only PVE. Not telling you how to play the game but just asking you don't make some base assumption about open play.
