Imperial Cutter and docking computer is a joke.

You don't need any docking computer with the Imperial Cutter, just a little practice. I've had problems only with the Anaconda because of its height... and I'm just a medium pilot. Try and try again, you can do it!;)

You really think someone has bought a ship like the Cutter and still can't dock? Madness - people use the docking computer for convenience while doing repetitive tasks such as trading :)

Edit: And therefore it would be very nice if it worked properly on the Cutter, the games best trading ship ;)

Would be interesting for the OP to come back and state if it was the same station each time and the same approach? Might be some odd glitch in geometry around 1 specific station?
There are enough Cutters on enough routes for this to be a screamer of a bug otherwise?

My only issue with the DC on the Cutter is it seems obsessed with yawing into the mailslot...

about 3 times now, quite a distance from station, docking computer takes over, and you straff into the side of the station (im greedy hence no shields)

the docking computer cant deal with the momentum of the cutter at all. never had this problem with a type 9 or anaconda. bye bye 60 million credits. sigh

For me, the times this has happened has been when I boost to get to the 7.5km point (so I guess I'm already heading in too fast). If I just sail gently in, even if not precisley lined up, it handles the landing perfectly.

Just like at sea big ships take time to react. You have to think ahead more and give it time and space to manoeuvrer. You'll get the feel of it soon enough. And be wary of high G planets. Almost lost my Anaconda the first time I attempted to land, using the DC.

I don't mean to sound like an ass, but just learn how to fly the damn ship so that you don't need a docking computer.

I really can't stand comments like this, you people always think it comes down to skill or ability. Some of us use a SDC for convenience not because we lack skill to dock a ship.

Hey, my questions for pilots that use the DC in the cutter are
A) why on earth would you deprive yourself from landing a ship that is quite frankly, one of the most fun ships to land????

B) why would you trust anything but the most awesome cmdr "you" in the galaxy to land such a specimen of a ship????

C) how does a cmdr piloting Space Awesomeness have the patience to allow Pesents to take priority in their schedule of domination????

Beacuse people have free will and might want to use SDC? Everybody makes their own choices. There's no ship modules' layout to suit everybody, there's no one type of weapon to suit everybody. There's no one way to fly the ships used by everybody. People have their preferences and it's perfectly OK.

well, i thought the DC was implemented for us hobby drinkers? landing a cutter while being full to the brim could be costly, so here's my main use...
[big grin]

My audit has nothing to do with the choice itself; it's in relationship to the awesomeness of the alternative.

Besides, smashing t7's legally is just plain fun. When you have a ship that owns the mail slot (caugh, and 428 - 728, bad debtors...), you make that slot your B****! And all that dare occupy the same system!!!!!!

Because I enjoy driving, I don't enjoy parking.

Thats how i solved that issue.
It happenes from time to time but it happenes because of my fault! (and your fault)
You are simply getting late to slow down.
Just do this, boost as soon as you get in the station instance when you are approximately 4-4.5 km away engines to "0"
turn them off, and wait.

It will slow down and the docking computer will make the rest.
This point i always switch my game to the web browser, forums, emails.
It takes some, actually it saves me from some time. I could also say so..

Guessing you play solo/Mobius or something - defo not open with no shields.

Hope you have adequate insurance - The Docking Computer Curse will strike, sometime, somehow, somewhere......with no warning.
Enjoy :)

Even in solo you get rail gun sidewinders and eagles.

I've never used a docking computer myself. I read abiut too many people having problems with crashes from them.

I can't say I bother with docking computers, however I will agree that due to it's daft inertia, the Cutter can be a real pig to dock.

The docking computer is obviously developed, manufactured and distributed within and from Federal systems.

The clipper can't handle it, the cutter can't handle it. It's an inside job to get rid of the Imperials.

This is total rubbish and a Federation disinformation against the beautiful Empire ships.

I used the Cutter to take my last trading rank up to Elite and always used the docking computer to dock. Only once did I have to intervene when the computer couldn't make up its mind to swing right to get over the correct pad.
The only thing you need to do is ensure you have bought the speed down and closed in to fairly near the letter box and the computer never made a mistake apart from that one I mentioned.

Where does the assumption that people who use docking computers don't know how to fly or dock come from?. Automating a process can be a matter of convenience and not necessarily skill or even efficiency.
I use the docking computer if I trade in my Anaconda, because I can just do something else(like read the forums and plot my next course) while it does the docking. The credits per hours I lose for using it isn't much.

I'm sorry but I don't have much sympathy for you. Either get shields or be prepared to cough up a little for repairs.

There is a simple trick regarding the Cutter and the Docking Computer:

Do NOT Boost when flying into range, than everything is fine. I never had problems with it once i stopped boosting in range. If u boost, it will smash u into the station wall because it can not cope with the drift. If u dont boost, it works fine.
