Canopy Helm Upgrade
i think cocpits of all ships are very fragile if you broke your canopy while you re have a long fight to home or failed interdict escape attempt right before dropping to station, you re doomed. in most case scenarios (no matter u re how far away from the closest station with right landing pad) you interdict someone (or vice versa) and got a hole in couple of millions worth ship. current idea is tuckle your tail between your legs and reach to air barrier of a station as fast as you can. what i have in mind adding simple but effective solution to that problem. retractable canopy armor which can be put to a hot key and used no matter if canopy has a giant hole in it or not. and if we count some immersive reasons
+ civilian, mining and some low budget ships might be okay but only glass protection on half billion credit worth military ship ?
+ high grade AFMU and life support are fine but what i'm saying is closing your ship's helm and keeping the pressure inside (unless u broke that helm too) and you can make them pay for that repair cost.
+ AFMU only Works if canopy is cracked. there is nothing you can do to fix it if your canopy broken and dunno how many of can repair it while in combat. (based on posts on this thread) also AFMU takes up one optional slot which you can put something to carry stuff, search stuff or mine stuff. helm will come under armour catagory and will be like " extended military grade armour" but with much greater cost.
+ most of us uses D grade life support for power reasons and u wont need to that much of constant energy from life support use when using canopy helm but mass would be a little bit of problem. just turn it off and use only when helm is broken.
+ once you close your bridge you will be stuck with your camera feed. this is both pro and con. your point of view will be limited but you can upgrade your feed with different filters, options and light wave. didnt thought about this that much but you can use it find hidden fragments from ship wreck, xray for mining resource search (a color for each obtainable fragment maybe ?) weakpoints on enemy armor and even a landing feedback with UI assist.
- great things comes with great cost. for my idea ship helm would require energy that is equal to D grade life support at same size so players can switch which one to keep on depending of helm's state but it also needs a system draw for maintain magnetic locks and camera feed but it wont be too much. just keep 1 pp reserved at systems all the times. otherwise systems will get dried down and you wont be able to regen shield or keep that camera feed on. as mentioned above it costs higher than the regular armour upgrades but this ones can be upgrades as devs see fit.
since this is an old thread and one of the suggestion wont be discussed here anymore so i hope someone one can change the main title to "Canopy Helm Upgrade" so it will be more clear
