I don't normally complain but

I've been playing Elite Dangerous since the start of Premium Beta.
Really enjoyed it, and if I'm honest, spent far too much time playing it.

However, I feel that this is about to change because I can hardly ever find any pirate kill missions to do. This is what I enjoy most. Had a great time stacking these and often earned 8 million an hour or more in combined bounties and bulletin board payouts. It wasn't unusual to find payouts of 2 million for 20 pirates, and run several concurrently.

Nowadays, I rarely see any of these missions, and will log on several times just to see if I can find any before I even consider leaving a station.

The point is, I was really having fun playing these missions the way they were before.
However, it seems like any time there is an in-game mechanic that's this much fun, the devs seem to nerf it, so I'm just not having as much fun playing.

I don't understand the logic; do they think that making it harder to progress will extend the interest?

Try a station with low PC traffic and after completing one mission it will issue another one or two and then it will give more each time.
So after a few missions you should get to stack them again.

Last few weeks I've been all over the place achieving some of my goals.
  • Ranked up to Duke and bought cutter.
  • Found some good trading earning me 2.5 million per return trip in my Cutter
  • Obtained Tycoon trading rank
  • Visited Ariel in the Sol system and got some great canyon selfies.
  • Ranked up with Aisling Duval so that I can stock up with some Prismatic Shields next week.

I do mix it up quite a bit. I am just saying that some of the things I really enjoy appear to be nerfed for no good reason.

I know sometimes it appears that way, but I've seen that the game tends to eb and flow in some manner. Some days the mission system is generous, and I make a killing with relative ease. Other days it takes far longer, and is much more difficult.

I hope those missions are not nerfed, as I enjoyed them as well. But there have been times where I thought something was nerfed one day, and the the next day its:

How long has the well been dry?

Here's a post from another thread, just a few minutes fresh:

This player has been able to stack at least 3, shown here.

Seems to me that in these immense systems of more than a billion souls, there should be hundreds of active missions of varying types, and payouts on the BB.

There should be, yes.

But there aren't.

Such is the galaxy we fly in.

The hunt pirates type missions are very rare these days since 2.0. I've only managed to find 4 since Christmas and I've been looking for them, trying to build up rep etc. Two of those were this week so the incidence may have increased again since they turned off the defective missions.

I have but one suggestion - try at another system - those missions are still in game as usual and at times I find a multitude of them offered at once. You won't be having much luck if staying in once place though, and switching modes and such has no effect whatsoever. Logging on/off definitely has zero effect.

Look for systems which are in 'war' state or alike, or 'boom'.

Unlike before, there's a smithreen of logic in what's offered and where. You won't find much mining missions at places which don't give a hoot about resources, and you won't find pirate hunting missions much where such activity would not be expected to be found at.

Pretty sure they changed the way they work because of the ease in which they could be stacked.
I have seen some Pirate vs Pirate ones offered in systems controlled by an Anarchic Government. Only saw them in passing though and some have time limits and others have a "LOT" of ships to kill.
I don't think they will reward as much as they used to but probably worth a go if you find one and I think I saw them in Hudson controlled space, as in general PP area.

You'll rake a bunch more in a HAZ (or High), but if you get a chance to combine both the mission(s) and the RES's... it's not bad income at all.

There really needs to be more missions offered and more variety of whats offered.

Very rare I'll see a mining mission offered.

Just go to stations/bases which list as 'mining'. Or 'refinery'...
Industrial/High Tech you mean, those are the economies I've seen mining missions, albeit rarely.
The extraction/refinery system I'm currently based at has yet to give me a single mining mission - although the system is currently in a civil war.

It's not been that dry for me, but far less than 2.0 sadly.

I also really miss the hostage rescue missions; I wish they could have just fixed them instead of removing them.

The only thing that bugs me about the nerfing of pirate hunting missions is that the smuggling missions haven't been nerfed.

There's time yet - haven't tried Robigo myself but quite a few people are enjoying making a lot of money this way.

The same thing happened to rares trading. I used to enjoy that but I hate the sit around waiting to get your full allotment. I don't see how this adds to the game; OK limit how much you can have in your ship, but what's the point in giving you only a fraction at a time?

OP are you running missions in the same systems over and over again? Do you realize that killing WANTEDs in a system increases the security in that system, meaning less Kill Pirate missions? Try to move around the bubble and try different systems. The missions are out there.
