How to defeat a commander that tries to scan your ship while you're in the station

@OCflyer - Just out of curiosity, are you aware that you still block the pad even when you are inside the hanger?

You play a smuggler, be prepared to meet players playing as police.

"Blocking" the pad implies that you're staying on the pad for an inordinate amount of time. It implies that you're "hogging" the pad. When I log into Open, I'm usually on the pad for 20 sec. Sometimes 30 sec. Nobody, and I mean nobody would consider that hogging the pad. I try to be considerate of others even when I'm in a private group by logging off from private or open when I go AFK.

Yeah mate, was just wondering. Some people think that going into the hanger frees up the pad.

To see what they are carrying and if it's worth them contributing to the "save Liqua" fund ... Tried it twice - killed twice (by players) .. so 2-0 to the good guys :p

Ah, that makes sense. And actually a nice pirating technique. It is certainly NOT what the offending commander was doing in my instance. I was on the pad for 10 sec when he scanned. And then scanned. And then scanned. Rather petty to do that. If he hadn't scanned at all and was simply waiting to dock on the small pad (of which there are several), he would have had the pad all to himself within 10 sec. So his purpose was clear.
.
I wish I had been in a combat ready ship at the time. Alas, a smuggler's cobra is not a fighting ship.

What a great idea! Turn everything off while in Solo before cycling the mode to Open. Commander, I like how you think!

Forgot (haven't tested it in a while) :
As soon as you get a "Scan Detected" Message or better as a preventive measure, you also might try Silent Running.
I believe either Hotkey or Ship Menu still work, even when on the Pad.

Combined with the many disabled Ship Modules, it should afford quite a long time without running into overheat issues.

Wow the lengths people go to ruin people's game time. It's a reflection on the ignorant, selfish culture the baby boomers created.

Quite agree.

My smuggling experience over the last 6 months taught me that silent running doesn't defeat a scan in progress but it can be used before scanning starts to reduce the distance that a scanning ship must observe to be able to get a lock on my ship.

I'm referring to a specific use of repeatedly scanning a ship sitting harmlessly in a hangar

no, you're not. you log off not letting any scan complete. there isn't a single scan to speak of. there's you breaking any scan attempt in style: by exiting the game. looks to me like you are misrepresenting this to ...

with no purpose other than to harass a player that is attempting to accept Shadow Delivery missions.

... better support this wild assumption.

even if it were so (and that would indeed be a jerk) i'd have no sympathy for your issue since i think log-spam is a fundamentally spoiled aspect of the game that should be fixed (meaning eradicated), not supported in any way. however glad you found a clever workaround. learnt something myself!

The first time it occurred, I detected three scan attempts in short succession. On subsequent log in, on detection of the first scan attempt I logged off.
.
Regarding whether I need to support my assumption, I feel no need to. The commanders purpose was clear given the context - the specific station and the predominance of why pilots go to that station. Since I offer no details as to which commander and which station, further support of my statements is unnecessary. If you don't wish to give an experienced pilot the benefit of the doubt, then that is your prerogative.
.
If you don't like mode logging, then you'll need to take that up with FD as I really don't care whether other pilots like it. Mission stacking is a specifically supported game mechanic that actually can be accomplished with or without mode logging so it matters not if FD removes mode logging.

I generally switch modes (SM) to stack missions, them I SM to get out of the station without risking being scanned. If I see any red text or pirate text, I SM to evade the interdiction. If I run low on fuel, I SM to see if a more scoopable star will populate nearby. I never combat log, though. I only log out when under attack if my shields go down.

So you only mode switch to avoid game mechanics.. am I the only one who thinks that's kinda exploiting the game mechanics..?

Mode switching won't change which stars "spawn" around you btw.. :)
