In the OP. You know, where you typed "I didnt really care". Stop accusing people of not reading well, there is no ambiguity here.

You are right I did write that so I apologize on that part.but read it in the context. Not I dont care bout the game.I didnt care about flying without buyback...You purposefully took it out of context..

Dude's played 200+ hours and is now bored it it? That's not bad.

He says he'll be back too.

Honestly there's nothing to say everyone has to play consistently for 10+ years every day or else the game is at fault. Dip in, dip out. Not many games you'd have 200+ hours from and still know you'll come back to.

Exactly right that. I fully expect to still be playing this game in ten years but that does't necessarily mean I will play it for ten years. There are going to be other games that I want to play, other stuff I want to do in my life. I didn't sign a contract to play at least once a week when I paid for the game so as long as I think I've had my money's worth it's all good.

"So I was drunk yesterday and by accident set the dog of my girlfriend on fire. She told me she never wants to see me again but I dont care lol. My life is so miserable now I cant stop crying. But she's stupid anyway, who cares about girls, right?"

YOLO

Love all these people that keep commenting on the OP's post as if he is whining when he is in fact simply explaining his viewpoint on the game.

The fact is, he is right. ED is eeeeeeeeeeeeally boring and has been pretty soulless since it launched. Some updates have helped flesh it out, but it all comes back to the same things. The Op is so right when he says its a multiplayer game with no real multiplayer association.

Most missions involve flying around killing the same dull ships over and over, or docking repeatedly
Then again, there is bounty hunting! Sounds cools, but is just killing the same dull ships over and over!
Oh and planetary landing! Like docking repeatedly, but just as boring and on planets.

OP actually probably did himself a favour. Seriously, i played a good many hours on this game, had a fully A class FDL, Clipper, and a few others. Once i stopped though, i never looked back, which is the key point here. The

One thing I see repeatedly in threads like these is opulent amounts of the word "grind". And since you seem to be of the kind, as well, I would like to point out that Elite, unlike basically every other game out there, doesn't force you to grind. You can enjoy all the features and everything this game offers from the start. But grinding for things is so strongly burned into habits of most gamers that they just can't help themselves.

What part of ED isn't 'grindey' though?

You need to grind for everything pretty much, and the two worst culprits are: cash, and reputation. Undisputed the absolute fundamental basis for everything you can / cannot do. The lesser being cash, but reputation? That's a killer, an absolute killer, single handedly saps your will to live. Even CG's are a grind.

For me luckily, grinding for cash has been made obsolete from the old 'seeking luxury' days for me. BUT it's a bone dry desert that having 10b+ in credits, still requires excessive grinding to get to a point where you then have an option to buy a particular ship.

All of this amounts to one thing, lack of will to stick around for periods of time - six month break, back again, tried Horizons, cant wait for multi-crew, but I find myself playing for 30 mins every 2 to 3 days, then rolling off to something else and coming back, going off again. It's lacking a hook of real substance, and it's why I feel for the OP. Ironic thing is I'd definitely play a hellava lot more if the reputation for ships wasn't in the game... The rest of the game grind I can ignore, but being locked out from getting ships is imo a bit much.

But anyway, this isn't about me. I still play, from time to time, so FD has my money.. sometimes it's just nice to open yer heart every now and then! [heart]

It is only grindey if you make it, i've never grinded for anything in game..Been playing since early Beta.

Back when I did commodity trading in the early days - I'll do a few hours of runs listening to an album, always make sure that they are varying routes (rarely A-B-A) reach a modest goal then pick a Nebula and go do some sightseeing or exploring/ Mining, practicing FA-OFF in various ships for a few day's, come back and fly some more routes, was never a grind.

Combat - Focused on PvP skills, never sat in RES sites for weeks or months on end, would generally hit a RES with a cmdr for a few hours, mix it up with a few SSS or Nav beacons, tried various ships and loadouts - Never a grind gaining combat rank.

CG's - Flew cargo to register myself on the board, helped defend other traders, sometimes helped with blockades, mixed things up and didn't focus on being the top of the board - Never a grind, made a nice bit of cash and made some new friends and enemies.

Exploration - Never Jumped honked for weeks on end, scanning every icy ball 1,500,000 LS away, studied various stars/locations/Nebulae and set out on a mission to visit them, or helped chart regions for galactic mapping projects - Never a grind

Mining - Did it for relaxation mainly, normally a break from other activities.

Ship ranks - Am at post commander, not grinding for the Corvette, I can see my rank slowly increasing through my trade and donations whilst smuggling to various ports, it will come in time. Cutter was obtained same way as the Clipper, through playing the game normally.. I did sit at a station collecting donation missions for a few hours, got bored to death.

Closest thing I've ever experienced to grinding is GTAV online, I quickly put a stop to that and started enjoying the game.

if you got into an e-rated python and thought it was going to be fun, clearly you didn't learn anything on your journey to the ship.

Yet here you are ...

I'll probably never own an Anaconda. Grind for weeks just to do the same thing I'm doing now in a bigger ship? Naaa. But I've been playing for a month now and am still having fun. My AspX is a pretty decent general purpose ship. I'm going to build a dedicated exploring ship and do some exploring. I might try mining if I get really bored. I probably will never get deep into trading even though that's where I hear the big money is. And if I get bored and all I ever do after that is log in, do some bounty hunting, and run a couple of missions, so be it. I do wish there was more to this game (I only have the base game but it doesn't sound like Horizons is worth the upgrade right now), but any game get's old eventually.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Hope to see you back again someday, OP. Too much of anything can be bad, lol. You've played a ton so no shame in wanting to pursue other things for awhile.

The game is what you make it, If it a grind, it because you made it a grind. All games have repetitive task, but what makes sports games, fighting games, racing game, card games, FPS, and other sim game any different than this?

Nothing.

People want more to do, but at some point. That "more" will also be a grind.
Every new thing added to the game or improved so far is now labeled a grind. At what point is it not the games fault, but the players.

To the OP, I was in your shoes, but I lost it all with an ASP. It sounds like your burnt out on this game. Take a break for a month or two, or when 2.1 comes out and try again.

The game is in its infancy you have to give it time....you find it souless take a break,go play outside, play fallout 3 I hear that has years of content if you like making houses...bide your time Star Citizen should be out in a few years by then this will be a much different game.

I don't know how but please fix this as I want this genre to succeed.

It hurts to lose a ship. We've all been there. But this isn't something to fix. There have to be consequences. No risk means no reward.

.. however - leaving the dock, without buy-back is absolutely playing chicken with an angry horde of bees. BEES. They will sting you and you will be sad. Don't be sad. Don't be stung by bees. Always have buy back. You have my condolences, CMDR.

Never fly without insurance, also I have a feeling you'll be back in a week. losing a e rated python is nothing compared to losing an A rated Corvette.

You never really mentioned trading. You must have grinded for trade. I specifically remember when the great "seeking luxuries" boom was up, and you were talking about grinding credits for several days, and that it had paid for some large ship or something, lol.

Over 1000 hours logged, no grind yet, earned billions, blown billions, still no grind, restarted in the newbie Sidey multiple times now due to MY own stupidity, no grind so far, despite being in an Anaconda(which I had fully A graded at one point before I went exploring again) and having more than enough in the bank to buy a Cutter to go with my Anaconda! Still have done any grinding though. Funny, the game YOU find so grinding and boring, I've yet to see any grinding in, nor do I get bored.

Then again, I am of the generation that played the original Elite, I was 18 when it was released, so to me, a true sandbox game like this, it's something I love. No quest to follow, no storyline I can't change except for the obvious choice of good/bad/neutral(IF I've given any choice at all!), no mindless grinding for days and weeks and months on end to get that elusive Top Gear from raids, killing the same boss mob over and over and over to get that gear, only to see it rendered useless with the next expansion...Christ on a crutch, I wonder how I can handle those games sometimes, I mean a great storyline is fun and all, but it NEVER FREAKING CHANGES! You know what the definition of insanity is? Doing the same actions repeatedly and expecting a different outcome...welcome to the standard video game formula, where that's ALL you do, repeat the same actions over and over....I'm good with E: D and not doing the same thing constantly, being allowed to do whatever the hell tickles my fancy whenever it does so. Also why I'm looking forward to Star Citizen, same format in play there, sandbox, do whatever the hell you want whenever the hell you want, no storyline dragging you around by the short and curlies.
