Distant Worlds - A journey beyond the Abyss

I'm going to try to catch up if I can! Both forum and flying!

Has anybody found Polonium near the last leg to Beagle Point? I think I can get there, if I can get some Po.

If not, I have a diversion plan that I think will net some valuable and unique data, worthy of the expedition!

well, was a strange day at BP for me today...

logged in as usual, checked that all is fine at Darwins Legacy,
and went afk to get my little one to bed...

came back after some minutes to find this screen:

p0jEkDI.png

thought at first it was the "connection error" one, which already frightened me a couple of times on our journey,
but no, this was the real black/white screen we never want to see...

Was to be honest not that hard as I thought it would be,
mainly because I went to SagA , reached the 65k-club distance aswell as the "DWE-goal"
and all this in my first exploration tour at all - so no need to be unhappy.

But I hoped for some more funny hours at BP with all the people I met on my way to it.
Not that I socialized that much, but I felt always welcome at the WPs and warm within the DWE-fleet.

Also I didnt understand what happened...
I checked Discord,
and CMDRs which were in the same instance didnt understand aswell, there was no accident,
still enough fuel... and I didnt selfdesctruct to get back to the bubble the short way ;)

Even a screeny was made of me :D (thx to OptimusGrind):

So I ticketed that unmotivated explosion to get this in response:

( Btw, got this two and a half hour later, which imho is absolute pretty fast for a support !
Cant describe how impressed I am with that, @FD! And a big thx @CMDR Taurus of course! :) )

I just logged back in and landed at WP23 - which I discovered again - with 100% hull/plant (for me both a reverse of the medal)
and while I am writing this lines I hear the frightening "booooms" of (hopefully just) SRVs around Darwins Legacy again! ;)

Sorry for this block of text in terrible english, usually I try to use less words,
but I am really happy that I am allowed to stay the week with all you (insert an adjective you would like to be given) people! :D THX!

Ps.: as a sidenote: as long as you stay in the "ship destroyed" screen without clicking "continue" , you still are verbose-logging the area you have died
I dont think this change the world for the better, but I found it worth mentioning ;)

Fun little observation. My maximum jump distance is 33.53. The second last jump to Beagle Point is 33.40. That remaining 0.13LY relates to the threshold amount of fuel I can have remaining in my tank after making a long, fateful jump. I don't know what kind of formula or curve is involved in determining the ship mass to jump range relationship, so I can't get into much detail.

However, since I know the FSD I'm using has a maximum fuel usage of 5 tonnes for maximum jump range with no fuel, and I'm carrying 32 tonnes of fuel, I have to get as close to 15.63% fuel capacity (or under by a small margin) for the jump to happen. This provides an easy, visual reference while trying to make that happen. I can either waste fuel down to the mark or gradually scoop up to the mark. It works and I ended up on the other side of a jump with only a sliver of fuel remaining. Of course I checked ahead to make sure there was a scoopable star.

I learned a lot on this trip, but I feel this was one of the more usable and practical findings worth sharing. I will learn a whole lot more on the return home as I plan on taking my time and reading about everything I come across. I hope to come across at least one commander while out this way. I haven't seen anyone. Do you all play in private group or something?

It was such a rush to get here (14 days of finding time for work and sleep), but I look forward to a leisurely trip home.

Velusip,

It's as close to accurate as I've been able to get is to far.

Having set off to this fabled 'Bubble' people keep on mentioning, I'm actually having real problems making my way back across the Abyss. I never had this on the way out to BP. I swear that BP doesn't want to let me go! It's Hotel California all over again! ;)

Haha, i've seen you struggling down there. At least you are scouting for the search of the western passage. I intend to use it when i head back down south ;)

Cheers,

It certainly is a dark desert highway...but is there cool wind in your hair cmdr? I would guess if that was the case you would have the aircon turned up too high ;)

As for myself, BP is my Hotel California...currently I can't leave, still needing 7 or so cadmium to make all the jumponium necessary for departure. Cmdr Dandak helped me out a lot last night but still a little way to go.

There's no way to be sure, but just out of curiosity, what key is your silent running bound to? And could you have accidentally hit it before you walked away? I know several commanders who have lost their ships to unwanted silent mode activations, which of course ran their heat up and up until it destroyed the ship!

Glad it worked out for you though!

I've never done the Robigo run before but I'm thinking of doing it with practically the same Asp set up I used for DW. No weapons, but I'll have cargo space instead of the detailed surface scanner and Vehicle bay.

If I get interdicted I'll just submit and then try to escape.

That is pretty much my smuggling layout. Though, I play in open, and seems to be a lot of folk starting to scan other players, so... I think I may grab me 6 x rail guns, just for the lolz.

Hi folks!

I thought I was capable of staying in or around Beagle Point for the week, but the urge to JUMP JUMP JUMP was just overwhelming!

Hey, you gotta do what makes you happy... or what's the point, eh? :p

So, to make myself useful, I looked up CMDR Zeewolf's excellent post from four weeks ago, detailing a route across the Abyss, directly towards the core, with a view to traversing it, and possibly taking a few additional notes on the way.

I'm delighted to say that his posted route was entirely feasible in a Distant Worlds Spec ship, ie. with at least 34 LY jump range.

Here is the record I took of his route:

Code:
Ceeckia LS-P b39-0
Iorant FC-S b31-0
Syre Thua WQ-R b45-0
Syre Thua JR-P b5-0
Nuwo BB-V b36-0
Nuwo OI-V c5-0
Nuwo QN-W c4-0
Nuwo KR-C d0
Nuwo VY-D c1-1 -- Next jump L1 Boost
Nuwo PX-F c0 -- Next jump with low tank
Nuwo UD-E c1-0
Nuwo QX-F c0
Nuwo JW-C d2
Nuwo RX-F c0 -- Next jump L2 Boost (or L1 + low tank)
Syneayoi NX-A c27-0
Syneayoi NX-A c27-0 -- Next jump with low tank
Syneayoi JR-C c26-1
Syneayoi JL-N c20-0
Chua Dryiae DJ-R c21-0 -- Next jump is to binary stars (close!)
Chua Dryiae VF-M b41-0
Chua Dryiae OI-A b34-0
Chua Dryiae FH-S d5-2
Chua Dryiae MD-N b13-0
Syneayoi FT-N b6-0
Syneayoi DC-A b0
Pyria Thua KW-E d11-1
Pyroo Eohn YC-K c25-0
Pyroo Eohn BM-J d10-3
Pyroo Eohn MH-T b37-0
Pyroo Eohn YN-C b19-0
Chua Eohn LF-I b57-0

As with CMDR Zeewolf's route list, those are the key systems. I tried to list those systems that "worked" in the route plotter, from one to the next... except for the few jumps needing either low fuel weight or FSD Boosts. And I removed from the list any systems that were able to be skipped by plotting a route well past them (note: with my 34 LY jump range).

I have listed extra navigation/route points at the start from Beagle Point, for ease of use - DW participants may still be groggy from all that Lavian Brandy and narcotics! I also added some more of his route at the end (from his EDSM journey log); there was a possible "dead end" trap or two in the patchy region just beyond.

I hope this helps someone. All credit must go to CMDR Zeewolf, of course!

To all DW pilots, I bid you farewell! I'm off to probe the mysteries of the Formadine Rift now!! :D

This was the route that I took using Zeewolf's crossing with a 33.36 ly jump range. What was your jump range?

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...e=538&p=3671475&highlight=zeewolf#post3671475

I scanned every star along the way to help other people know that it was the crossing and as I'm back at the bubble they should show up now. Afterwards though I found it a bit difficult getting back into the arm and had to veer eastwards quite a bit. Then I hit three permit zones. Praei2, Praei6 to the east of it and then Bleia something. I think it would be a good idea to extend the crossing a bit further for lower jump range ships if anyone feels up for it.

I love how the dynamic of the journey is changing right before our eyes now. We've arrived, we've enjoyed the sites (and events) and people are looking homeward, you can see it in the tone of the posts.

There's still things to do, and fun to be had at Beagle Point but our eyes are looking back across the gulf to home and the last great mind shift you get out here is starting.

It's changing from "I'm so far out" to "It's so far to travel" and the physical sensation of the distance is becoming apparent. Now it's time to start looking for smaller goals and get yourself across the light years. Pick a strategy (or ask for suggestions) and enjoy :) it's gonna be tough but it's definitely going to be worth it
