Distant Worlds - A journey beyond the Abyss

It is what it is either way, but it would be nice to know if there's any point in waiting around, for those who aren't lucky enough to get into the right instance at the start. Or if we should just log out and tune into FD's live stream instead.

Well, never mind. I'll definitely be tuning in to the live stream.

I should have known that spending a week on a cold hard rock looking for ways to entertain myself, in a ship with 0% hull integrity, was bound to end in tragedy.

If anyone finds the wreckage of a travel-worn asp in one of the craters near the Beagle Point base camp, check to see if the Lavian Brandy survived. Oh, and if by some miracle the escape pod with the guy I picked up back at WP 10 survived the crash, he'd probably appreciate a lift home.

Mitterand Hollow is where the beginnings of the Distant Worlds fleet first met, back in December to help see how basecamp coordination would work on the coming expedition.

It would certainly make a great Waypoint 24.

"Reunion Landing", Mitterand Hollow, Dec. 1st 3302 anyone? :D

This sounds great I would definitly attend this! probably gonna be alot of cmdrs that agree with me on this aswell:) Might be the perfect time to either start planing or reaveling the next game changing expedition aswell!;) Maybe a circumnav expedition is a bit to crazy, is what many would have said before seeing how many actually made it all the way to beagle point during this expedition^^

When a 24th wp is set with date and all announce that everywhere:)

Hmm, 0% sounds lower that Muad'Dib [POZ]'s 7%. If you have a screenshot of the hull damage and a galaxy map shot that shows your location at Beagle Point on or after April 2nd, you may be the winner of the 200t Paladium min. hull prize.

You're talking about hull health, he's talking about hull integrity which is hidden but presumably 0% after a long trip.

Just out of curiosity, what's everyone's total hyperspace distance (from the stats panel)?

Just noticed I'm a shade under 340,000Ly traveled, that's almost a trip to the Large Magellanic Cloud and back (~30kLy short).

Muad'Dib [POZ] still in the lead with 7%...

I think our fleet flagship isn't far behind that, last time I saw the Wasp it was at 13% (or was it 18?).

Damn, that low really? Would love to read that the WASP has successfully returned home in one piece one day.
Hold on, Olivia, you might make it! o7

I don't know how many people are interested in the excursion to Podar scheduled for tonight but I've scouted a route there that I can make in my Asp Explorer without jumponium (currently 33.30LY range on a full tank). The longest jump on the route is 33.64LY. The main hazard is a close binary near the start, where I arrived passing through the secondary star last night. Details are in the cartographers' and prospectors' public service thread ( https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=236381&page=6 ).

My goal is to get there unboosted (*) in my 20.4/21.4 range ship. Looks like it might be theoretically possible...

* - excluding the necessary boosts to get from BP to the main part of the outer arm.

16% :p

Thanks!

I am at 31% in my Asp. Will surely avoid landing on many (or any at all!) planets on my way home! If you don't plan to continue your expedition and instead are heading home, too, we could travel together a little. I am planning to head homewards after the Beagle Point week and live stream with Ed Lewis on Thursday. How about you?

Last night during those emotional speeches on the livestream i was thinking...why not set up one more WP? WP24: Bubble. Lets give all the commanders enough time to come home by whatever route they have chosen - i think 4-5 months is reasonable - and meet again somewhere in the Bubble. We can sit by the campfire and tell stories about DW and our journey back home. Or just say hello and keep the spirit alive :)
What you think, anyone interested?

An update to the announcements thread itinerary has been made thanks to your post ;) :)

no, it was on WP21. He accidentally boosted into the mountain side while spectating an SRV. I got on video somewhere on my computer

Yeah, but the flagship is a little bit heavy for Darwin's Legacy ...

Hi folks!

I thought I was capable of staying in or around Beagle Point for the week, but the urge to JUMP JUMP JUMP was just overwhelming!

Hey, you gotta do what makes you happy... or what's the point, eh? :p

So, to make myself useful, I looked up CMDR Zeewolf's excellent post from four weeks ago, detailing a route across the Abyss, directly towards the core, with a view to traversing it, and possibly taking a few additional notes on the way.

I'm delighted to say that his posted route was entirely feasible in a Distant Worlds Spec ship, ie. with at least 34 LY jump range.

Here is the record I took of his route:

Code:
Ceeckia LS-P b39-0
Iorant FC-S b31-0
Syre Thua WQ-R b45-0
Syre Thua JR-P b5-0
Nuwo BB-V b36-0
Nuwo OI-V c5-0
Nuwo QN-W c4-0
Nuwo KR-C d0
Nuwo VY-D c1-1 -- Next jump L1 Boost
Nuwo PX-F c0 -- Next jump with low tank
Nuwo UD-E c1-0
Nuwo QX-F c0
Nuwo JW-C d2
Nuwo RX-F c0 -- Next jump L2 Boost (or L1 + low tank)
Syneayoi NX-A c27-0
Syneayoi NX-A c27-0 -- Next jump with low tank
Syneayoi JR-C c26-1
Syneayoi JL-N c20-0
Chua Dryiae DJ-R c21-0 -- Next jump is to binary stars (close!)
Chua Dryiae VF-M b41-0
Chua Dryiae OI-A b34-0
Chua Dryiae FH-S d5-2
Chua Dryiae MD-N b13-0
Syneayoi FT-N b6-0
Syneayoi DC-A b0
Pyria Thua KW-E d11-1
Pyroo Eohn YC-K c25-0
Pyroo Eohn BM-J d10-3
Pyroo Eohn MH-T b37-0
Pyroo Eohn YN-C b19-0
Chua Eohn LF-I b57-0

As with CMDR Zeewolf's route list, those are the key systems. I tried to list those systems that "worked" in the route plotter, from one to the next... except for the few jumps needing either low fuel weight or FSD Boosts. And I removed from the list any systems that were able to be skipped by plotting a route well past them (note: with my 34 LY jump range).

I have listed extra navigation/route points at the start from Beagle Point, for ease of use - DW participants may still be groggy from all that Lavian Brandy and narcotics! I also added some more of his route at the end (from his EDSM journey log); there was a possible "dead end" trap or two in the patchy region just beyond.

I hope this helps someone. All credit must go to CMDR Zeewolf, of course!

To all DW pilots, I bid you farewell! I'm off to probe the mysteries of the Formadine Rift now!! :D
