Distant Worlds - A journey beyond the Abyss

I love how the dynamic of the journey is changing right before our eyes now. We've arrived, we've enjoyed the sites (and events) and people are looking homeward, you can see it in the tone of the posts.

There's still things to do, and fun to be had at Beagle Point but our eyes are looking back across the gulf to home and the last great mind shift you get out here is starting.

It's changing from "I'm so far out" to "It's so far to travel" and the physical sensation of the distance is becoming apparent. Now it's time to start looking for smaller goals and get yourself across the light years. Pick a strategy (or ask for suggestions) and enjoy :) it's gonna be tough but it's definitely going to be worth it

all those who now see 1k LY as a walk form the couch tot he front door, and 10k LY as a quick drive to the shops, raise your hands...
What is Podar?

I, too, am curious...

My dear friend, I do believe that is Hodor, not Podar...

I'll be honest, I'm really missing home. I even went and re-ran the docking tutorial just to see at station again!

As others have said, you don't notice the distance/isolation while travelling toward a goal, but hanging out at bp for a week, although it's been a great time, has really brought home quite how far away we are.

Don't judge me too harshly, but I'm going to make a start and head back.

I'll reiterate what I said on my arrivals form...

To every new friend ive met and to those DW fleet members i haven't, You've all been absolutely awesome, massive thanks to Erimus and DrKaii and anyone who played a part in organising this amazing expedition! We truly have done something exceptional. Same time next year? :D

That's because you have a long journey ahead which will be something to get over and done with rather than a goal in itself. It's the same if you have a long car journey ahead. You can't relax knowing that it awaits you.

For what it's worth, it only took me just over two weeks to get back home. The trip won't be as long as getting out there because you can make a straight line back after crossing the abyss. I stayed about 1-2K above the galactic plane when I did it to avoid the plotting problems with the core. On an average work night I would do about 2 kylies, maybe 3. Weekends I did about 10. And then I kind of rushed the end.

Don't worry about it CMDR I had the same dilemma this week when I decided to set back home. you are part of DW and part of this amazing community and we all understand the desire to get back.
Its completely natural. I am so looking forward to hitting the bubble again but I know that within a month of being back I will want to be back on an exped again:)

Safe travels CMDR:)

I've got a Cobra MkIV I've never seen and a blockade running Asp (that took me to SagA*) rusting away. I'm thinking about firing these up for some Robigo running when I get back. Or I may stay out for longer after mapping the northern edge and aim for 1/2 Billion in assets by the time I dock. The thing is: you do what you want - you're planning ahead now and that's just human nature; no one's going to judge you for that.

I know exactly how you feel. I miss my Viper MK IV the most, what a ship. I miss all the stations, the feeling of life. There's so much I want to do in the bubble since Horizons, and I can't wait to get home. I'm making sure I get really familiar with Beagle while I am here, because I know that will make me miss it more and inspire me to come out to it again one day :)

I must be strange or odd or something, because I hear all of you longing to get back but I just ain't feeling it. I'm longing to explore more while I'm out here, and I have no intention of seeing the bubble anytime soon.

Oh My God, has the space madness gotten me, and I don't even realize it? :O

Nah. The whole long term point of DW for me was to get me back out here so I can go back to the Northern edge. I messed up my exploration last time and want to try again.

Of all the ships I left parked in the bubble, I miss my Clipper the most. Flipping that thing on an unsuspecting opponent without even needing to use FA/off and melting it's face with large beams.. priceless. Also, kinda planned on getting the Cutter when I return. Just need two more imperial ranks to be able to get one. Yup, plenty of stuff to do in the bubble, but I'm not going to run there anyway, since I'm out here I'll collect as much data as I can on the way back. There's plenty of time :)

BTW is it known roughly when the official list(s) are going to start being formed? You know, the stuff we needed to give our consent for Frontier to share server data with the DW organizers for? No rush, just wondering if a rough time frame is known is all.

There's no way to be sure, but just out of curiosity, what key is your silent running bound to? And could you have accidentally hit it before you walked away? I know several commanders who have lost their ships to unwanted silent mode activations, which of course ran their heat up and up until it destroyed the ship!

Glad it worked out for you though!

still what I think it is by default, DEL (or backspace?!) .... ntl, I just logged, already landed, and just hit "2" to say hello,
so my fingers should have been far away from it...

Got a cat? I bound silent running and other things I don't want to accidentally activate to button presses that require two fingers, either shifted or with a different mode on my stick (it can be changed on the fly).

If you have some time to spare, go check out the 3rd planet. Green misty planet with some nice intricate craters in it.

Absolutely agree. The points you list - the stations, the stuff to do in the bubble etc. - is what made me hesitate to join the DW expedition in the first place. I am happy I decided to come along, it was a hell of a ride, but now I can't wait to get home, to plunge into all the faction (and yes: Power) play again, to do missions etc. I am extremely looking forward to the improvements about personalisation that 2.1 will bring (especially about persistent NPCs with faces!), so I won't continue exploring and instead make haste back to inhabited space to be there once it goes live! :)

My cat is always walking on my keyboard, hadn't thought about silent running lol...

I'm also missing the bubble and will be heading back in a straight line once across the abyss. It's been great though big thankyou to all involved participants and organisers :)

I'm hoping to time the return from my meandering explorations across the western quadrant of the galaxy with the launch of the Engineers expansion. Then I'll work at pimping all my rides to hell and back ;)

Well I am still wandering about out here and almost stranding myself also.
My stock of primo boosto is now depleted, but I had more then am sure that 65.5 would of been reached.
