Distant Worlds - A journey beyond the Abyss

Decals are nice, however the only persistence currently available (stations, planets, systems excluded) in ED is tags; which is why I'm leaving one of my CMDR's in the Black to see what it would take to tag a sector. Just a small one mind you, 1KLy*1KLy*1KLy'ish, nothing big. How many systems could there be? (will tell you in DWE 3305)

Do it in a neutron star field and see if you can break the bank when selling the data...

I just want to say thanks for all the messages folks have sent from the very beginning of this adventure months ago, right up to the present. Almost every day someone has PM'd me or emailed me saying how much fun Distant Worlds is bringing them, and how many friends they've made along the way. That means a lot.

I'm not very good at sentimental stuff, so I'll leave it to Dr Kaii to add his own words to that - he's far better at it than me, and as Zulu Romeo mentioned, Kaii has been the heart and soul of this event.. his enthusiasm and sheer joy at how much fun other players are having has been a pleasure to witness all along the way. And he deserves a medal the size of the rings of Podar for the sheer amount of work he's put in.

The FleetComm admins have been a godsend too - they've helped create a real thriving community of explorers on there, something that will hopefully live on long after Distant Worlds. So much more potential for more DW kind of events can be born in there thanks to the dedication and continuous work that NeoTron, Kancro, and grnbrg have put in. Unsung heroes, all. I can't thank you guys enough o7.

Distant Worlds has been blessed with some fantastic content creators, and there's now a wealth of fantastic videos, blogs, and posts, and gigabytes of photos, not to mention the sheer dedication the prospectors brought to the venture. These are things that all of us will be able to look back on and continue to enjoy in years to come.

And to the various groups that have sprang up from the ranks of the DW fleet, the Candy Crew and Rock Rats - both bringing high-octane fun to those basecamp meetups, and really getting the best out of the social aspect Kaii and myself had envisioned back when this event was just an idea. Thanks guys o7.

And to the the Distant Worlds fleet - thanks for coming along! As I mentioned elsewhere, Kaii and myself may have got the ball rolling, but you guys ran with it and made Distant Worlds what it will be remembered for :)

Too tired to write anymore for now so I'll save the rest for the final Distant Worlds newsletter ;)

Farewell CMDR. Thanks for taking us with you on this most life changing of adventures o7

It hasn't fully hit me, what we have done, because it is too big for the heart and mind. But it comes in glimmers, and they shake the foundations man.

Epic video :D I think I even spotted my canyon jumping attempt in there!

I'll second that, you've changed the nature of the game for so many people. And pretty much invented a whole new style of play and exploration that I suspect will be repeated often.

o7 CMDR.

Oh that was you!?
Amazing attempt even though you didn't really make it, you did however manage to drive up the last bit so that counts :D
and thanks :D

Well at least I think it was me :)

I'm certainly not the only one who attempted it and there are a fair few Asps with that same orange/black paintjob. But I do seem to recall you were in the general area and recording when I tried it :)

if your ship is orange with a black top then it was you. I remember when the CMDR landed it there to make the jump

Fantastic video, CMDR!

Where do I sign up for DWE II?

I want to express my deep gratitude to CMDR Erimus and CMDR Drkaii, too! Thanks for organising this epic adventure, for putting so much work and effort in preparing everything and for taking me and all the others along! It has been a great journey!

I will start my long journey home towards the bubble now, because I am longing for all the other great stuff ED has to offer! I miss those gigantic stations, want to participate in a few CGs again, have spend way too little time at surface bases and am even planning to give Powerplant another try!

Fly safe, Commanders, it has been an honour flying with you!

That movement looks glitchy and lagged, so if that was the incident I think it must have been bad luck. I've checked my recording (mostly sitting in the arch looking at chat) and haven't got any collision in there, but there were some impossible leaping back and forth on the scanner. Another indication of the instance struggling a bit.

That looks incredibly glitchy to me, I don't think there was any bad intent there.

700,000 players in ED, with probably a few million more new players who'll play it in the future, yet less than 400 will ever be able to display that decal ;) o7

I am assuming you guys haven't forgot the FGE fleet coming along at a slower rate, we are still part of distant worlds and while I am sure most of you will have continued on to other systems when we arrive on the 31st May, we do salute all those ahead of us who have made it so far.

I'm heading back now, thanks again to everyone who set this up. Truly an amazing project/experience.

Am I wrong thinking that I can head back to Waypoint 21 - The Roncevaux Crossing, be at the edge of the Abyss, and be able to just point towards the bubble?

Or is it trickier than that?
