2.1 - stop the hype train

Okay, let me hit you with this gem. Sales of Horizons have been so bad FD have deferred them to next year, stock price went down.

Are we still convinced?
Don't understand your question. Convinced about what?

I said: Well, I don't feel that an incomplete statistic from one day is very solid base to draw conclusions from.

It's not hyperbole when everytime someone points out a bug or exploit they are told that the issue will be addressed in 2.1 by non-frontier employees, ambassadors , backers or moderators acting like an authority on the games development.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperbole

Examples:
"That's when people stop stating that any glitch or bug will be fixed in 2.1" Any glitch of bug.
"everytime someone points out a bug or exploit they are told that the issue will be addressed in 2.1" every time

(It's not a fallacy mind you, so I'm not accusing you of tricksery)
Building a patch up like this up to being the silver bullet to all these problems is only going to lead to more disappoint .
I have seen this claimed a lot, I have seen few occasions myself.

A small number of people might be enjoying the game but those people aren't going to be able to sustain the further and future development of ED.

Its a pretty decent gauge of active players.

Depends on your definition of small. As for steam I never trust those numbers, whilst they may be the only gauge we have, I was playing ED long before steam came along, and I still play non steam, so the steam numbers will always be negatively skewed. It would be helpful if we knew the exact numbers, but I think the reason they are not published is every time they drop by 0.00001% people will be shouting the demise of the game.
When FD stop supporting the game and stop releasing updates then please feel free to PM me and shout "I told you so".

I'll be happy to be wrong on this one but reading between the lines suggest that Horizons has done very badly and thats why sales were defered in FDs statement. There can't really be any other reason. Unless you think its sold amazingly and FD are just having a laugh. Let us please apply some logic here.

I won't be happy at the demise of this franchise but if things dont change direction I suspect its coming.

Unfortunately I cant apply logic as I don't have all the facts. Yes, they may have deferred due to poor sales, but equally it could be for many other reasons. I for one will not conjecturalise on something for which I do not have all the data. You may be right.

Thing about trains....they are really hard to stop. Especially with the runaway nature of a hype train

Horizons probably didn't do that great, which is surely why Frontier have changed the strategy on how it's being marketed. However Horizon's isn't completed yet as a product. It's essentially a pre-order system no matter how you look at it.

What matters is how Frontier will learn from it and how adapt a strategy for future content updates. They have said there are already people working on expansions 3 & 4 so it's entirely possible they might change the strategy to release more content to the user up-front for future expansions. I can't imagine there hasn't been some serious conversations at Frontier about the way forward.

It's still Frontier's most successful franchise in over 20 years. The Elite brand is still a significant cash cow and made Frontier one of the more profitable UK developers during a difficult period for the industry.

How can you read between the lines. No one knows what the sales of horizons are. It is just pure speculation and uneducated guess work.
Yes please apply some logic. FD are not a developer that is losing money at the moment and seem to have plenty of cash reserves.

Planet Coaster looks like its going to be a great game and could be a massive cash cow for them as it looks like it will be a very popular game. From what I can gather that as long as FDev are in business, they will be supporting the game, so I really cannot see it disapearing anytime soon.

Patientia sit virtus.

Keep congratulating yourselves at your abilitiy to google latin phrases. It changes nothing in relation to how FD are performing when it comes to ED. I am interested in the game being amazingly successful and reaching its potential no matter what, others appear to be solely invested for self interest.

Just because I don't sing from the hymn sheet doesn't mean I am not right about the game, where it is and where its going. I think some folk around here need a wake up pill.

Orient hype-express : A showcase of luxury and comfort at a time when travelling was still rough and elite-dangerous. CIWL soon developed a dense network of luxury trains, whose names are still remembered today and associated with the art of luxury travel.

Then there's the hype-gravy train! Now that is one hellava train. Who can deny the gravy train?

Some may see the train as half empty, some half full...
[haha]

All I know is that, an empty luxury train means unrestricted access straight to the bar! CHEERS!

[hehe]

Yes indeed. But they somehow always fail to catch even the most obvious of bugs and Beta's by the users are the only way to properly shake down the product.
Sometimes I think they should be paying us by the hour in Beta to test their code LOL.
I must admit this statement seems odd, specifically, because they are giving it much more time then previously, to prevent exactly those bugs, and your conclusion is that they will fail again? we won't know that until they actually do it?

I can't find any hype, just some very limited information on what is sounding to me like another type of power play. A second station interior to compliment the one we have would sound like hype to me.

Don't forget tyre tracks for SRVs and bookmarks for the galaxy map.

They really know how to stoke the hype, I can't wait to see the trailer for those and all the comments saying that the footage of them adding a bookmark to the galaxy map isn't in game footage and how dare they.
