Shield Regeneration Lasers

It's not all procedural. I'm not concerned about things like Resource Extraction Sites, I'm concerned about the coop missions you can imagine being designed for this and where that will logically flow in the coming years.
Well I don't quite understand the concern if you are doing a coop mission when added, then you'll know the mission and might make plans, and it really could depend on what type of mission, I could yes, imagine some missions that would be easier with a healer, but given as others mention nature of SCB and such, I really don't think it will be as bad as some think, and I mean they are sure they are aware of the different play styles so yeah.

It seems a bit too much too early to worry about if or if not possible coop missions that don't exist yet, could or could not be made to favour those with healers....seems to be looking for a worry that might not even happen. So yeah, seems to worry about 0.1% of the content rather then being happy about the 99.9% everything else.

We have one picture with a description that loosely describes a "healing" laser, no specific details..

No real conclusions to their effect on the game can really be drawn based on that..

This is just like Power Play modules all over again, they added a bit of flavour, nothing hugely game changing.

You're probably right. That's my hope, but then everyone who wants space-clerics is going to be upset for not being delivered what they were "promised". :D I've probably fallen to the same fear-mongering and hype I complain of in others.

I'm trying to limit my worries to concept of healing that's "effective" enough to be a strong force in combat. If it means that, out of combat, you can turn your buddy's A-rated shield into a bi-weave, then I'm fretting over nothing at all and will be genuinely pleased that I am wrong. But those who want healing as an anti-railgun are going to be upset.

Either way, I think my only useful point right now is that I don't think we should want high-healing to be an option, it breaks far too much else. If we don't get it, we should be happy. That and I still think limpets would have been a far better mechanism for a shield heal. ;)

So instead of being scanned rammed by NPC's they will now scan heal us? I can live with that. Or maybe it will be scan, ram then heal. Maybe grey lasers for repairing hulls.

Maybe you are right! Maybe these will be "terribly sorry" lasers that you can use only within ten seconds of accidentally shooting the wrong ship. I can hear it now, "Terribly sorry laser charging" 4,3,2,1. Zzzap, "You have been terribly sorry".

I love all the doom posts here. :D

Community:"WE WANT MORE INFO! ANYTHING! JUST A SCREENSHOT OF THE GAME OR SOMETHING!"
FD:"Okay, here's a screenshot."
Community:"I HAVE NO IDEA HOW THAT'LL WORK BUT I GUESS ITS TERRIBLE ANYWAY!"
FD:[rolleyes]

For me, it's not how they work or even if they work. It's the bizarre concept that somewhere in the ED galaxy there actually is such a thing as a shield regeneration laser. It actually makes me laugh thinking about it.

One small problem, which I've pointed out a few times now...

IFF weapon, heals friendlies, hurts enemies, EVERYONE in the wing can equip them and use them constantly, so you are now fighting a wing of clerics, who heal themselves with the same thing that hurts you, so they don't need to switch anything out, just fire....

Really bad concept here, a repair tool or shield recharge tool is one thing, this is something totally different.

Give FD a chance mate. We don't know the specifics yet about the modifications - it could, for all we know, ramp up the power usage / heat generated/ whatever.

I am a solo player so this weapon modification is probably redundant so unless they give out wing missions (with NPCs) then I won't be using it, but I can at the same time see wings using them will might open up possibilities and change the dynamics of combat.

This will probably make shield penetrating/destroying weapons even more useful. It's adding to the rock/paper/scissors thing many games go with. This will encourage wings and potentially open the door for "dungeon" like missions that require a wing and gives some of the best loot (more PG content here would be best to make it less monotonous and tedius)

I know some people probably won't like this mainstreaming type of gameplay, but honestly it works and it's what many people are already familiar with.

And we are already getting to the point of wireless electronic charging so I don't really see how shield regen lasers are too farfetched considering shields themselves exist in the game in the first place and everyone seems cool with the :T

I find it hard to believe that we will be able to use lasers to heal tissue within decades, but cannot figure out how to use laser to restore a shield the thousand years that follow.

Why is it funny to you that laser can transfer a big amount of energy from one device to another? Such technologies exist today. :)
Depending of the frequency and amplitude the energy transfer simply can be either beneficial or destructive.

Come on. It's a sci-fi. Try a little. :)
