Small ship flight model buff!

Won't this basically kill shadow smuggling?

The vast majority of police interdictors are Viper 3s, and if they become much faster, neither the AspEx nor the Cobra 3 may be able to outrun a scan (which is already really close on the AspEx).

I run armed not necessarily to fight but to deploy, it seems when I deploy hard points they do also and that breaks their scan, YMMV
I would hate to see shadow smuggling go away it is the most intense edge of your seat action in the game for me.

but even so I am looking forward to seeing what this means to game play.

That's just it. I won't do that. Open mode means I have to deal with annoying pkers. I don't wanna, so I play solo. Blockade circumvented. Even if I played open, I would by random chance have to be put into the same instance as the pkers, so they could see and attempt to interdict me. At which point it is perfectly legitimate for me to log out to main menu and back in to solo to finish my journey. A so-called blockade in ED maybe catches 3 out of 10 trading ships during a CG.

That's not a blockade, that's a minor nuisance.

But I don't wanna derail any further. "Try being a trader in open" - Heh! No thanks, I'm not a masochist.

Yep, let's not derail. I suspect you and I have two very different outlooks on the game :)

An Adder speed buff is woefully needed though. The fact a T-6 can overhaul you indicates something inherently wrong with a ship that used to be one of the fastest in the previous games :)

Not sure anyone has brought up the old concept art yet....

Wondering if FD modellers and texture guys have had the time to do this for all the smaller ships. It would be quite a task because a lot of paintjobs would have to come in multiple patterns to accomodate the various engines, or the paintjobs be split into sub-packs at least so they can change the back part individually.

First off, I seriously doubt that the upgraded Viper will be faster than the Cobra. Even if it is, the Cobra has a better sustained boost, so it will be close. The Cobra's speed scales very well with weight as well. The Viper's does not.

Second, NPCs don't use boost. So this would require an AI aggressiveness enhancement to even become an issue. I hope it does!!

Third, this is assuming that the Police will have access to the new modules. This may depend on a number of factors, including system security level, population, and wealth. Lots of unknowns.

Lastly, we don't know how/if NPCs will respond to stealth tactics, chaff, etc in 2.1. They may get an update. We may get a jamming module. Who knows.

That's really awesome. I don't think it would have to disrupt paintjobs much though; all engines models can just have their own standard textures, and the paintjob (depending on how the software and artwork is configured) wouldn't have to effect it at all.

Actually, I think this is what this change is intended to address. :)

I'm really excited, given that we were just talking about this very problem like, last week or something. C2 and C3 engined ships are ones most effected by weight, and they are the ones getting the buffs.

/super-optimistic :D

I doubt it. Assuming they now get at least an E-rated scanner and you drop at 200m from the cop, that means you have 10 seconds to bridge that 1800m. Even without boost or upgraded engines the Viper has a cruise speed sufficient to scan even a boosting cobra.

Also, it was announced that NPCs are getting an overhaul and will learn how to boost.

Too bad the engine performance is almost irrelevant because the most important aspects are governed by the flight assist computer (ability to turn, speed etc.). So it won't change anything.

What I wonder is that FD spends time tweaking minor aspects of ships that are rarely used, rather than fixing at least some of the plethora of bugs that have been present since the beginning.

You haven't been paying attention to the planned fixes, overhauls and new features for 2.1, have you?

you are flying the wrong ships. on a courier for exampel, going from 85% optimal mass to 60% optimal mass is changing the handling of that ship very much. and you have to sacrifice a lot to get your courier even to 75% optimal mass. i'm very much looking forward to the new thrusters.

Depends on how the AI is updated - at the moment, NPCs don't follow you at full speed anyway - you can outrun the police in all but the slowest ships.
In general..agreed!
.
But a few days ago I winged up with a French commander in a HazRES who didn't speak English..but fortunately he did understand pigeon French...he got into some bother with a Clipper in his Cobra & 'did a runner Guv'!
.
I tried to chase it down in my DBS (420 m/s build)..I hardly closed on it at all from 5km over the course of a minute or so..fortunately my wing mate waked in time!
.
This is an example that everything is already in place to make the AI very challenging, including combat agility - don't believe me? Try getting behind any ship while they are scanning you, before it completes - Imagine if they fought like that!
.
As we all know, the AI are about to have their hands untied! Woo-hoo!..I think!?

I'd like the AI to scale a little with ships. Why would an elite pirate fly a sidewinder? Worse, why do you get Anacondas flown by idiots who can barely get out the station.
