Small ship flight model buff!

Yeah. But the viper much cheaper than the vulture - it shouldn't be as good.

I wouldn't fancy my chances against Cillit Bang after 2.1..or before for that matter!!
.
So makes no difference really! :D (hmm, do I get a prize for most pointless post?..I realise I'm up against some pretty stiff competition!)

The point I was making was not that the Viper is even approaching equal now - I was running with the idea that a class 3 thruster upgrade would make the Viper a much more serious contender against the Vulture. I'm not sure I agree with you regarding sustained DPS on the Viper though - 2 pips to WEP will keep the MCs firing; 3 will refill the cap. There is no penalty firing on a Vulture in a Viper; they're both classed as small ships. While the distributor on the Viper won't handle firing with all four hardpoints at once for very long, medium gimballed MCs do as much DPS as the Vulture with two large pulse lasers, and it's so power-starved that very few pilots will go for fixed beams, and they'll be very challenging to use effectively against a Viper with buffed thrusters. They're like gnats as it is right now, albeit gnats that take an eternity to turn.

Again: rails. :) Highest DPS, very low EPS so no prob with the PD. With 2 medium and 2 small rails you'll do much more damage than anything a Vulture can do (although I am curious about c3 beam+c3 MC, that should really make the vulture happy).

The way I see it (and I insist it is my opinion), currently there is no enough difference between large and small ships. Some large ships are very agile and some small ones are like a brick.

I generally think ED should try to increase the differences between large and small ships, being the medium side ones somewhere in between.

Overall, I think small ships should be faster and more agile. Big ships should be slower but should have way more energy and jump-range than what they currently have.

Just my two cents.

Hmm. To be honest, I'm not sure I ever want to fly big ships.

I enjoy the agility of small ones too much.

What I'd like is a high value small ship. A bloody fast, bloody agile, bloody dangerous little thing with the speed of a viper, armour of a vulture, agility of a dbs and price of an FDL....

I fly an imperial courier quite often and ive thought it needed more speed. A boost to its thrusters would thrill me.

I've heard mention that there was a bit more news on these drives, since the newsletter. Am I seriously confused or did I miss a new tidbit?

Won't this basically kill shadow smuggling?

The vast majority of police interdictors are Viper 3s, and if they become much faster, neither the AspEx nor the Cobra 3 may be able to outrun a scan (which is already really close on the AspEx).

Depends on how the AI is updated - at the moment, NPCs don't follow you at full speed anyway - you can outrun the police in all but the slowest ships.

Ideally the AI would be tweaked to act more like players in regards to chaff and silent running.

Also, we don't know if these are buffs to existing modules or new non-standard modules that the police might not have.

This is set to change, in a dev update better use of boost whilst pursuing was specifically mentioned.

I'm super stoked for this: might actually need to consider NPC pirates a threat rather than simply submit/boost/low wake one's way out of every hostile NPC encounter

I look forward to the complaints :D

But it only mentions Faulcon de Lacey, so will it affect the Adder, etc which are not manufactured by Faulcon de Lacey?

I know the article says drives, but do they mean thrusters?

Brilliant PR from FD as usual.

Even with a simple message they manage to add enough obscurity to keep people guessing.....classic.

I'm sure they mean all ships that can fit size 2 & 3 drives, not just Faulcon De Lacy and by drives I presume they mean thrusters but why be clear when you can be ambiguous

I don't question their existence. They simply don't work. As someone smarter than me has recently elaborated on very eloquently and in great length.

Try being a trader in open for a while who takes part in CG's. The perspective of whether they work or not depends on if you're the one who's being interdicted. :)

That's just it. I won't do that. Open mode means I have to deal with annoying pkers. I don't wanna, so I play solo. Blockade circumvented. Even if I played open, I would by random chance have to be put into the same instance as the pkers, so they could see and attempt to interdict me. At which point it is perfectly legitimate for me to log out to main menu and back in to solo to finish my journey. A so-called blockade in ED maybe catches 3 out of 10 trading ships during a CG.

That's not a blockade, that's a minor nuisance.

But I don't wanna derail any further. "Try being a trader in open" - Heh! No thanks, I'm not a masochist.

Just boosting away shouldnt be how you evade cops, its silly that that is how peopl do it now.

if they outfit the NPC's with the new drives there is a good chance.

but on the other hand.. how many NPC's have you seen with Bi-Weave shields?
