Well, there are particular limitations on how FP mode is able to take shape. First of all, instancing makes things complicated for large-scale stuff. Too complicated, imo. We're unlikely to see more than 30 or so players per instance except in rather exceptional circumstances, especially given how the latency and quality of connections can vary across players. We probably won't, then, see large-scale player-oriented battles. I'd like it to be otherwise, but I can't see it right now. Secondly, it's worth remembering that a large proportion of the playerbase consider competition-oriented FPS to be kiddie games, or at the very least have never played them and have no desire to play them. This suggests to me that should any development for FPS in the context of conflicts take place, it wouldn't be (insert multiple-of-two instance size here) squad/team-based in nature. It doesn't seem, to me at least, to be a viable way to run FPS, and that's even without considering that there can be more than 1,000 conflicts taking place at any one time in the bubble: Even the competitive PvP crowd in the current game stick to well-known systems or initiate their conflicts through other channels. Finally, I wonder whether people tend to play this game in rather small groups. All the people I IRL know outside of Communism Interstellar who play the game do so in groups of up to four - one wing, basically. Without access to the kind of data that the developers have I can't be sure, but I suspect that many of the people who play have neither the numbers nor inclination to call themselves a clan. Development of the game hasn't done anything to change my opinion on that, and I would expect it to continue - player-backed minor factions are just that, for example: player-backed.
So you have certain restrictions, at least initially. Any FPS conflict would need to be optional, small-scale, focussed around small, co-operative groups and employ the same P2P architecture while not penalising players for high or low ping. In other words, I would expect any FPS component to the game to be more like Left for Dead than Battlefield 4, which will undoubtedly make the forums even saltier, at least for a while. It would be objective-oriented so that it can be tied into the mission system easily, and would initially be more like Half Life than a straight-up action game (although without the narrative.) We might see an arena counterpart to ... ummm... Arena... for it - it wouldn't be massively difficult to design dedicated arenas with suitable bots for it as both a training simulation for the real thing. Maybe the same model for Arena might make an appearance too - dedicated PvP game modes - but I wouldn't expect it to be part of the main game; the playerbase is just too diffuse for that.
