The Formidine Rift - Part 2

Gotcha - I have a few default views too, would be nice to be able to set up two settings to switch between. Occasionally there are things to spot in one view to cross reference with the other that become a PITA.

Either way i'm heading around the backside of the Rift to prod it. *ahem* I'm just on the edge of your finer grid now and debating if it's ok to load elite at this hour

Hehehe

:D

I honestly don't think they are referring specifically to the RR line or anything the old lady said. After watching the holofac recording and getting the coordinates in some form or another, they start looking at Galaxy maps to see where the RR line points to. I always assumed Hassan is reading descriptions from a number of systems in that area and that particular one tickles him. And is also Drew throwing a little homage in there.

That's how I read it, anyway :)

Hassan reading descriptions is before they have found the holofac recording and watched it.
Salome searches the databank, the words "Formidine Rift" flicker across the screen, her query only returns vague plots, she says the old lady said they were to plot a line "from Reorte to ... ah, there it is!". At which point Hassan mentions (reads out?) that phrase about the friendliest place, and then the databank query finally returns a single result, a holofac photo with video.

I'll give an example of working with 'unsure'/'elliptic' clues :
Drew gave rep to Luckyluke for looking into the prism system naming. Part of what Luckyluke talked about was Autolycus, the "Wolf itself/Lone wolf"
Then Drew put a comment about 'lone wolf' CMDRs in like page 100 or so of this tread, with 'lone wolf' in quotes.

Here's an asterism for you... arrhhhwwwooooooooo!

Hey, thanks for doing this! Very interesting, but not the GalNet entries that I was remembering...

It looks like the one I was thinking of ("Wierd science in the old worlds") from 17th April 3301 has been subsequently redacted, but there are still links to it here, here and here.

Could this possibly be related to Michael Brookes' comment in the recent livestream that "the Allicance are traitors to independence"?
Given their friendly ties to the Thargoids, could they be ganging up with them?
(Sorry, I know this is not directly Rift-related, but the GalNet news posted here made me think of that)

CMDR LuckyLuke is correct. The "Friendliest place this side of Riedquat" is a nod to Oolite, nothing more, it is the nickname of the Oolite forums. The phrase was actually one of my kickstarter pledge awards - to have a line of dialogue in the book - submitted by a generous pledger.

Cheers,

Drew.

Ok, thanks for the comments  Although I do read all stuff on the "Formadine Rift", sadly the drugs I have to take, has an effect on my short term memory, so unless I re-read everything, it gets lost somewhere along the way. It was just that the pyramids popped into my mind from watching a program on it all a long time ago. Long term memory seems to stay stuck in my head for some reason.

Ill keep on turning this all over in my mind and maybe something will pop out (hopefully not another brain f**t). Perhaps I should invest in some new tin foil?

I don't know if anyone has considered this, but the 3 balls near the top look remarkably like the 3 pyramids in Egypt. I dont remember reading about this connection anywhere, so I am hoping this may be significant.

Take a look here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orion_correlation_theory#/media/File:Orion_-_pyramids.jpg

Has this already been discussed and theorized?

The image within the Dragon/snake is a representation of Pi.
Copied from a Crop circle in the uk.

The snake/dragon seems to be from a design for a tattoo.
The other bit is from elite.

Thanks for the clarification Drew!

Oolite ref or not, logically the 'friendliest place this side of Riedquat' would not refer to Riedquat itself. And it is clear the quote does not come from Hassan, but he's reading it aloud off the screen because he thinks it's funny: '"Somebody has a sense of humour," Hasan said, scanning the text. "The friendliest place this side of Riedquat? Nice choice ..."'

So either Hassan is referring to Reorte (after Salome mentions it), meaning the full quote would have along the lines of: "Take a line from Reorte, the friendliest place this side of Riedquat, to Riedquat." (Sounds a bit silly to me that way, but ok.) Orrr ... both Salome and Hassan are only reading out loud part of the quote, meaning the full quote would have been something along the lines of: "Take a line from Reorte to SystemX, the friendliest place this side of Riedquat." I interpreted as the latter, implying the old woman in the hospital got her stuff mixed up a bit.

Only Drew would know, I guess.

If you read Reclamation you will find where Salome meets the old lady in the hospital on Ferenchia. The converstaion was ...

“You’ve been to the Frontier?’
‘To it, through it, past it,’ the woman smiled. ‘Don’t tell no one, but I got as far as the Formidine Rift, not many folks can say that! No one has gone past it and lived to tell the tale.’
‘The Formid …?’
‘Edge of the galactic arm. Take a line from Reorte to Riedquat to the edge of the arm and … keep going.’

There is no reason to suppose that the video coordinates clue from the databank on Achenar has any different meaning.

Thanks for clarifying that Drew. The literal interpretation of that passage, the old lady commenting on her memory being messed with plus cryptic hints of 'slipping things by the censors', that you 'like misdirection' and 'core of the problem' all strongly suggested a Reorte-Diso line.

It turns out that Reorte-Diso is dead on the Cassiopeia Camelopardalis delimiter which further fueled my curiosity. Nice to have it cleared up. It's hard enough to figure out what it is, definitely don't need to be picking through the wrong hay stack too.

If the statement "friendliest ... Riedquat" is, as Drew said, nothing more then a nod to Oolite then ... I strongly suspect that looking for any other pointer then the Reorte/Riedquat line in that bit of text is hunting for something that isn't there.

Personally I don't think we'll see many new clues until Salome is personally in position to be a central figure in the search. The Formidine Rift is in all truth HER story. It would be disappointing if she doesn't have some hand in it's unraveling. This is our chance to participate in the final chapter of Reclamation ... Or perhaps the first chapter of the sequel.

Goofin' around with the galmap once again, I took lots of screenies to find the boundaries of the drop in star density.
it's pretty tough going as if that rift continues at that angle further east as well. i'm going to trace out where i'm stuck against more thoroughly and work back towards where someone seems to have made a crossing and trace in the path of that - generally going around not so easy. it's very disturbing having to tell the route planner you're using a boost just to get a perfectly jumpable plot for one jump, then of course it won't plan past that :/ when is the newsletter exploration love coming?

Hi, I have two questions, probably stupid, but I feel I missed something or at least, misunderstood because of my English sometimes a little too rough.
Someone said something that would be in french, would it be possible to enlighten me on this?
And someone else mentioned an article. which should appear on GalNet today and could contain information about the rift. Anyone has any information on this?
Or is it space madness, and all these voices are just in my head? [noob]

And I know that some were interested, so I updated my list of neutron stars / black holes / worlds here.
