That's was unnecessary an entirely off-topic. I said I was paraphrasing, and I was. The quote was originally made in "The Gay Science", and was popularised in "...Zarathustra", so you might want to check your references before casting aspersions. Just to make it easy, and to further spell it out: I was saying that people mis-quote that phrase much like you did, and also mis-read it much as you did. It is meant to mean "in the absence of God, how will mankind orient its morality?", being the question which led Nietzsche to his idea of the Overman. I was using it in relation to Code in order to say "who will take the place of the boogeymen?" with a bit of sarcasm, especially considering how the Archon gets demonised..
Except that Nietzsche's usage of "God is dead" is symbolic of a historical account in reference to his work
Twilight of the Idols in conjunction to
Beyond Good and Evil (he fleshes it out more so here), where he thoroughly explain the stages of philosophy and well known philosophers (starting with Plato) where truth became untruth. So I don't think I misread it whatsoever, it's that the context of morality which you employ could have been better conveyed. I did read that you paraphrased it, thus I thought you were entering in depth of his work, not the superficial surface.
Edit:
The reason why I didn't mention
The Gay Science and
Sprach Zarathustra is because the ideas there by Nietzsche that aren't fully fleshed out. The works I mentioned are written more succinctly and has more philosophical development, which you can very much read yourself to see.
I should stop trying to make posts with any amounts of ambiguity in here at all, I suppose. I literally explained how I was paraphrasing it afterwards in the original post, but I guess that wasn't enough for you to get it. You saw a chance to pull someone up on a minor thing and completely missed the point, again.
I'm merely asking what page do you refer to specifically in what work and what context you are entertaining, there is no need for knee jerk reaction. Nietzsche's works are expansive, so I expected a little more explanation if you do want to invoke his writing.
Y'know, this highlights the whole point about these threads. People are too busy pushing their own type of troll or playstyle to allow for a balanced game or active community, hence those of us that want to get things done seem to work fine outside of it. As a Delaine supporter that does it because we all have fun, I can see how easily a community can polarise against pirates that don't even pirate. I can't blame them for getting worked up about the Hutton blockade when the PR campaign equated to "we're gonna blow you up after an hour's SC because it's fun!". That's why I'm happy sticking w/ Kumo and Black Omega: we're more about how chill you are than how good you are, and we care more about how much fun we have playing than the way we want to play...
Funny, that's a lot of inaccurate accusations. Not to mention that people were given a chance to leave at Hutton to my knowledge. There were also a period of compensation for those who feel wrongly treated, a simple search on our forum can tell you more than enough, it's funny how little research people do, isn't it?
Also, I don't remember when is there a combat exam necessary to join or remain in The Code, we just had one of our explorer put on the community spotlight, for example (though he is also combat ready, not that we knew, but that he is).
Edit:
Btw, you're welcome for my coordination for Archon for five months straight (toughest time when everyone more or less invested in PP).
...oh, and with a few exceptions, we try our best to be courteous in our communications and did I mention we know how to separate RL from RP? Some minor factions and PP groups can have trouble with that, I've found. No names mentioned this time, as we can all think of 8 different examples ourselves, I'm sure.
tl;dr? - I'm tired of finding bad eggs in nice handbaskets.
Tl;dr? I'm getting tired of seeing knee jerk reactions.
