Horizons How does one purchase Beta Access at this point?

As the title suggests, 2.1 has got me *so* excited that, for the first time ever, I am mad keen to do the beta test. So does anyone know where I need to go, in the store page, to purchase Beta access?

Thanks in advance :).

Marcus.

You can't get Beta access currently unless you bought it previously or as me has a lifetime access pass. :p

(Sorry!)

Wait for the next time life time expansion pass comes around (if it does), or pre-order the next expansion when it comes out that gives you beta access.

MEssage to support and pay the extra might do it.

Might not though since you can;t even buy beta access right now which makes me think there are technical complications with giving beta out at this time.

I think Frontier are missing a trick by not having an "upgrade to beta button +£10-15" somewhere at this time, I mean there's a level of hype around isn't there that Frontier and the community have put time in to build, not allowing people to get it at this time seems of a waste.

It's a bargain too (assuming you're interested of course) I mean 4 betas @ £10 = £2.50 to mess with the 2.1 beta.

I seem to recall FD saying a while back that they now had enough beta testers for the time being, which seems odd but I guess it's because the beta servers don't have the capacity of the live servers and perhaps they are close to the current limit. But it does seem a wasted opportunity to easily generate additional revenue.

Yes Frontier often lack the opportunities to make money

If they were selling beta access, the money-making might be outweighed by the drag of the outrage (accusations of money-grubbing, people who already paid for Horizons incensed at the mere idea of paying for it twice, claims of clear financial desperation and end-times, beta-testing being a service not a reward, on and on it would go...)

No-matter what Frontier does, they can't win :)

If it makes you feel any better, speaking as someone who DOES have beta access and is not going to use it, I think it's MUCH better to skip the beta-testing and wait to have a nicer more polished thing land in your lap.

If you beta test, all the thrill of discovery is offset by all your gains with it being lost when beta is switched off. Whereas if you skip beta, then your first taste of it is when it's really real and your work won't evaporate. ;)
(Also, unbalanced and buggy gameplay sucks when you're playing a game, and betas are naturally buggy. There is a reason that people usually get paid to beta-test; it's generally an unpleasant job, much overrated IMHO.)

The first beta for horizons was smooth and relatively short, a little over two weeks if memory serves.

As an update, it has been in testing internally for months, quite different from testing a new program with all its parts untested and lacking launch day polish. Like the last horizons beta, this is a chance to flush out compatability bugs impossible to track down internally and a data collection period so the devs can see how the community uses and abuses content so they can fine tune balance.

At this stage there really should not be any major bugs to track down fix, then test again; bar tweaking it should be just about ready to go.

This beta is probably going to be interesting since there are bound to be some balance issues with the upgrades.
In the past I've gone between wanting to play the beta exclusively due to cool new features or hardly playing at all depending on the content.
Even though your progress is lost when the game goes to release, you still have a head start in getting to grips with the new features.

I too would love to throw my money at Frontier for a lifetime pass, when it was available I didn't have the coin when I do have the cash its no longer available, Ive missed out on the black Friday paint the gold asp etc. because I didn't have the funds at the time. How unfortunate.

I didn't have the money at the time of the original BETA in 2014 (when it was £30) so bought the lifetime pass last year for £120.

Well worth the money. If the Lifetime pass comes back, I'd suggest anyone who enjoys Elite get this for future updates and BETA access.

With all the authority of Some Random Idiot On The Internet, my un-informed guess is that the lifetime pass will be offered again during season-3 pre-purchase, like it was during season-2 pre-purchase.
My guess is also that future seasons will similarly have special bonus items for pre-purchasers, like Season 2's Black-Friday paint.

So you may have missed out on that particular paint, but there will be more cool exclusives that you'll get yer mitts on :)

(If they're lazy, it might even be the Black-Friday paint again :D )

Would second the above, I have no source but it makes sense to sell it around the time they sell Season 3 (so presumably November/December this year). Get saving :D
