*sighs*
I don't condone Robigo, I feel it had potential to be great, and it is a lot of fun, but it is just too ludicrous. Also, I can't stand how people complain that they "lost millions" due to a scan. No. You never had those millions, so you can not lose them. You were about to get paid an insane amount of credits for pressing your Y button fifteen times. And because there are idiots like the one who wrote that article on Reddit that was linked, logging on NPC's is proliferating.
Look, I'll break it down for you, but only because knowledge should be shared. I just hope that 1.6/2.1 nerf's Robigo from orbit. It's the only way to be sure...
So. Smuggling is about speed. You can get all fancy with your Heatsinks and turning off non-essential Modules, engaging Silent Running, etc. I know I love a good frozen canopy! But all that heat management will only get you a little closer to the mail slot before scans may initiate. It won't protect you, but it may buy you a few seconds.
What works even better? High speed so that the NPC's can't complete a scan before you're past them. It takes about ten seconds to complete a scan. Just be sure you're through the mail slot before that time is up. If you really want to use Silent Running, sure, but you are just turning off your shields, which can protect against less-than-gracefull entrances.
Trust me, speed beats heat management.
When leaving a station, be sure to exit at high speed and boost as well. Always head out in a straight line, do not turn toward your jump point until you've left the 'No Fire Zone'. Turning early puts you closer to NPC scanners.
Okay, about Interdictions. Basically you're going to be firing on anyone who interdicts you, so bring the requisite C1 Pulse Lasers.
1. Submit to Interdiction
2. Immediately deploy hardpoints and hold A + Directional Pad to target the ship behind you.
3. Flip 180 degrees as quickly as possible (F/A Off if you have a slow ship) and open fire on whoever pulled you. DO NOT KILL. It only takes one or two shots to turn the NPC hostile, at which time they will stop scanning and engage for combat. You will accrue a small fine of 200-400 credits.
4. As soon as you have turned the NPC targeting reticle from Yellow to Red, retract hardpoints and start boosting away. Your FSD should be ready to go, and if you have another system dialed up, you can high-wake without threat of mass-lock.
You may need to practice a little, but I guarantee you these techniques are the real deal. And please, for the love of all that is sacred, DO NOT LOG. Human or NPC. Take responsibility for your actions, and remember it's a game. Do you need to cheat at games even when playing by yourself? I should hope not.
EDIT: Oh yeah, you're picking up an obscene amount of credit value and all you have to do is deliver it. Compared to all other facets of the game, this is hands down the most one-sided risk/reward. It's stupid easy and as you pointed out, just turn off the Power button if you might lose, right?
So I think mission stacking for greater reward should increase risk, hence getting scanned more often and being chased by a higher number of NPC's.
And if you don't like that already, wait until a CMDR is feeling froggy and brings a Cargo Scanner out to Robigo with them to ruin your day completely!
EDIT #2: If travelling long distances (we know you are, anyway) try Fuel Tanks instead of a Fuel Scoop. Stopping at a Star to fuel up just gives NPC's more time to Interdict you.
