Why is posting about a real human bounty considered shaming? Enlighten me!

I noticed that some individuals on my friends list are wanted by system authorities. Some bounties are as large a 500,000cr. The CPU uses language like wretch or vermin to describe bounties. With the new update posting real players as top 5 bounties, I am trying to figure out why posting about a human player being wanted and using the language the CPU uses is considered shaming? Or was it considered shaming pre update? :D What makes the game unique these bounties are real players and makes hunting the vermin even better!(ex) I love tracking the filth(ex)!

Thanks!

Because unlike the A.I., humans will use... less kind words. Just naming a person, whether for good or bad, can create one heck of a poo storm. A a witch hunt, if you will. When the A.I. calls you a wretch, you don't even bat an eye, it's just a game, it's just a computer, but when real people start doing it... Well, you can see where I'm going with this. Apparently it's gotten pretty bad in the past. You're not even allowed to use some normal words, (or even write my real name for that matter) here on the boards, they will be filtered out. Fdev want the forum to be a friendly place, so they moniter this pretty heavily.

Edit: Just take GTA for an example. That place can get pretty toxic. I've heard people say they were glad certain people's mother had passed of cancer, and that they would exhume the body, and proceed to... "defile" it so "hard" that it thrust the corpse through to China... and that was just the opening line before their swear ridden rants... I mean, y'know how people can be. You ever kill someone legit in Elite, and get some moany message about how you're some god awful name for killing them?

Are there any rules about posting about a human bounty?

If someone has a bounty on them, what rule prevents you from noting that here?

Would it be against the forum rules to post something like this: "Was just in Sol, noticed that CMDR Dragnet has a bounty of 100000 on him."

Don't think its covered by any forum rules, especially if they are on the bounty list which anyone can see. Of course, if you started saying bad things about the player, like they ate your hamster, then it would be into naughty mat territory.

Remember, the naming and shaming rule exists to stop witch hunts, not bounty hunts. The latter is an in-game activity, the former leads to out-of-game nastiness.

At least that's my understanding.

I was under the impression that bounties are fine. Calling players out for behaviour you disagree with is a different manner.

There wasn't much moderation going on about the threads about hunting Corvos or #BurnKhan or the general :) storm.

The rules on this are blurry at best. I'm fairly sure you can call out a pirate in this system or what have you but as soon as you call out a logger or a griefer that's a no no.

I guess I've just been unlucky then! ^ ^ I've gotten messaged on more than one occasion about talking about other players, even for pirates and bounties.

But what is bad? Surely calling someone a pirate in-game could be considered bad. Maybe not to the same degree as murderer or griefer but it's still negative. And you say you can arrange bounty-hunts here but why can't I then name a griefer?

Also just wanted to note. Karmas experienced some out of game nastyness as in getting a comms ban and getting other punishments on XBL but as I remember it not much was done against the many witch hunts.

Aha.. as I said blurry at best.

Try searching ''Bending the rules'' on the forum.

And none of it was hostile either, they were all just, "Look out, a "CMDR Redacted" just blew me up three times in a row outside of "Redacted" without even sending a message over comms first. Might want to be careful in "Redacted" if you're headin' through. Might be trouble."

Yea.. that little part in the naming and shaming rule means the mod themselfs get to choose what they think is and isn't naming and shaming.

You might not have seen it as I edited it late but look back at the post you quoted.

Psh, Dangerzone. :p What are you gonna do? Pull me over and log out on me after dropping two tons of gold with a message, "THEY'RE CURSED I TELL YA! CUUUURSED!"

Maybe, to prevent confusion like this, we may never want to mention any CMDR name on these forums in this situation.

Legal or not..

While we wait for Brett or someone to come by and clarify, using the earlier example:

1) Watch out, CMDR Wothisface killed me in Sol - negative, not allowed, covered by N&S rule

2) Just had a great PvP match with CMDR Wotshisface in Sol - positive, no problem.

The grey area is more neutral comments.... and i'm not sure how we stand with those.

3) Just saw CMDR Wotshisface is in Sol. - neutral.... hmmm, do we allow that? I presume we would err on the side of caution in this case, since we cannot determine if there is some hidden motivation for posting this info.

Personally think that providing that the tone is cool, it should be OK.

"CMDR Dangerzone is in Sol with a massive bounty! All them TASTY credits!" - OK.

"CMDR Dangerzone is in Sol with a massive bounty. Let's get the scumbag" - not OK.
