New ships

I want a T-8, that can land on medium pads and rival the Pythons trading capability. I would also love to see a proper gun boat with alot of small-medium hardpoints. Also for those who dont know the ships that are speculated are: Dolphin, Beluga Liner, Krait, Mamba, Panther Clipper. The Cobra Mk. IV, the Condor and the Imperial figher are in waiting.

This is creepy weird, but I'd been thinking about something very similar recently.
On one of the other threads, someone has been banging on about wanting the panther clipper, and on the wiki it says that it was redesigned with a reduced size closer to the anaconda, but was never implemented.
Now my idea was to re-redesign the panther, make it bigger, like capitol big, maybe also have an imperial variant, ana these would be the ultimate multi role vessels. They would come with fully fitted internals, as no station would have upgrades big enough, 20+ small hard points, same with utility's. These behemoths wouldn't be able to dock or land due to their size so would be fitted with 3 landing pads with hangers, 2 small and 1 medium. Ships would be needed to transfer goods to and from stations or the surface bases, and this could take a while to fill/empty the 5000 ton hold!
In combat it would be a whale acting as support for fighters to reload and repair (as long as materials are on board)
Exploration would have multi crews striking off in their smaller, faster ships to scan entire systems, and of course trade speaks for itself.
In order to buy one you would need elite in all 3 professions, and be stupid rich, I mean billions.
What do you think?

If it is implemented it will be around the size of a Cutter but more blocky like the keelback.

If they keep to the lore it will haul around 2000tons of cargo Insane amount of hull and be equipped with 4Huge HP 2Large HP and probably 4Medium or 4Small HP. The ships speed and mobility is less than a Type 9. In the earlier Elite games it was designed like this. Some used it as a huge support ship for orbital bombardment.

I like this idea. There are a few things that I'd change, though. I wouldn't have it be quite as big as the capital ships. Maybe half the size. I'd also make it so it couldn't be taken out solo. Like, you'd need a minimum amount of people on board to be able to move the thing.

I think it would be really cool if you just hopped over to one of the starter systems and picked up a crew full of newbies and let them crew your ship for a while, getting a cut of the trade profits, while you flew around. There are a bunch of cool possibilities with the idea of larger ships that can't fit inside of stations, but I don't think frontier is willing to go there, for now.

There really are many thing that could come from such ships, I think it'd be cool to ferry other Cmdrs around with a capital ship, or resupply and repair them in an RES site, or act as a mobile base for a group of players.

However I draw the line at being forced to rely on other players to operate my ships, if we do go down that path there should be an option to hire NPC's to crew them as well. --Momentai :3

My vote is for a medium sized Diamondback. The next step up from the DBX. An exploration ship in the same way that the FDL is to combat and the Python is to multi-role.

That'd be awesome, maybe they won't skimp on the thrusters this time also? Naw, probably asking to much there. :p

We do need more ships. It's starting to get a bit dull seeing the same ships constantly - come on FDevs, give us some more things to play with!

I'd love to see an Imperial Medium ship and something that fits above the python but below the conda and between the Asp and the Python! Those price ranges are crying out for new ships!

I would be 100% behind this, as long as they are required.

I'm fine with ships requiring crew members (as long as I have the to option to hire NPC's rather then players), just keep in mind that many current ships in Elite need to be bound by the same rules.

I say this because there is absolutely no way a single person could effectively control and maintain any ship any larger then the Type-6, and that's being generous when you consider how large even a ship like the Asp is in reality.

I guarantee that every ship starting with the Python in that would require more then just a single pilot. We're talking about something bigger then my damn house with the capacity to wage war on quite a large scale. So considering the size of the Python I'll bet you'd have a team of trained soldiers on board for defense, as well as another team made up of mechanics to keep the ship in good shape, for a cargo ship you'd require staff to care for and maintain the goods, a mining rig would have staff to man the refinery and likely limpets as well, a combat vessel would need a larger crew since the damage sustained in a fight would require skilled technicians.

The list of positions goes on my friend, simple fact is that requiring crews for just one type of ship is unrealistic so if it happens be ready to crew most of your ships. And yes I'm sure you could use computers for most of these things but I doubt any fool with half a brain would set out into space alone (plus we've all seen how well the "computers" in Elite work *cough* docking computer).

Watch the following video and you'll understand what I'm getting at, and why I'm amazed about how empty my Cutter seems to be. --Momentai :3

I mentioned this back when Horizons first came out, and the DBX was a little under the line for exploration because of the newly added planetside modules. Suggested making a larger DBX that was similar to a Pelican from Halo, with an extra set of wing thrusters off the back, so it would have four of those side wing thrusters, and be a bit bigger than the DBX.

I understand the scale of all of these ships, and I agree with you about anything above a t6 needing a crew. I'd say that even smaller ships than the t6 should need a crew, but that may start posing problems for newer commanders. In my eyes, if you're into a t6, you should have a few million to spare, so you could afford your crews' few thousand credit salary, on top of your cash outlays for cargo. Anything smaller than that, and things would start to get questionable as to whether or not you could afford to pay your crew and fill your cargo hold.

I would also enjoy this, tbh. The DBX is my go-to exploration ship, but it just doesn't have the internals to do everything a ship needs to do in Horizons. I don't want to upgrade to an Asp, but I'm going to have to, since it has internals for days. I'd love a medium pad Diamondback. The exposed wiring in the DBX just gives it such a...stripped out, feeling that I think goes really well how exploration works in Elite. You strip out every unnecessary ounce of weight in the ship, including the bits of trim that would be hiding those wires in a normal ship, just to eek out an extra .01ly jump range. It's great. It's exactly what I'm looking for in an exploration ship, and I'd hate to have to switch over to the Asp.

If something so simple as requiring crews can't be made to work for all multi crew ships in the game then it has no place being forced on others either. Also a Cmdr has no reason to be flying a ship they can't afford to begin with anyway.

The speed at which you can obtain a large ship like the Anaconda in Elite now is appalling, I started out with my Eagle, made money and upgraded to a Viper, after all that I had more then enough to buy, equip, and likely even crew my Type-6. I didn't have access to Robigo like all the current players starting out now do, I worked my rear off for my ships, I learned how to trade, hunt bounties, and every other game mechanic I could think of just to climb up to my Anaconda, so sorry if "money" doesn't seem like an acceptable excuse to me.

Simply put, I worked my butt off for the right to fly each and every ship I've flown and I expect new players will have to do the same. --Momentai :3

I'd like to see a true Imperial combat ship. While there is, of course, the Courier, both the Clipper and Cutter are, essentially, armed traders.

The Feds have the FDS, FAS, FGS and Corvette. Even their names imply that their primary role is military.

What I'd like to see is an Imperial super-heavy fighter. Good maneuverability, decent speed and two class 4 hardpoints. Imagine the Empire's bigger, badder Vulture.

Even the Empires capital ships look like the're made more for trade and exploration then fighting. --Momentai :3
