The Star Citizen Thread v 4

From a casual observers point of view: considering it's touted as the 'most open game development ever' there seems to be less specific information about what to expect content wise in the remainder of this year than there is for Elite Dangerous.

Does this hold true? What schedule exists for 2016 beyond persistent PU and shopping?

Star Citizen has given idea to other developers who fill the gap nicely (maybe better).

Well if they did get ideas from Star Citizen they surely developed their game really fast!
Game looks like it's more influenced by DayZ than SC, basically DayZ in space :)

Looks good too.

Well there was Star Marine which is cancelled, delayed indefinitely, already ingame.
Chapter 1 of Squadron 42 was last due out end of 2015. I don't think there's been a revised date and no-ones seen any gameplay - not even journo's invited into CIG - so who knows when that's coming.
As for everything else - eg cargo hauling, trading, exploration, passenger transport, fuel scooping, refueling, pirating, mining, salvaging, repairing... [where is it]

Looks like we have a new outsider on the 0g seamless transition interior-exterior-spacestation-spaceship segment. Remind me a lot of star citizen mechanics.

Oh goody, another unfinished open world space game.

Made using Unity Engine by a small team in Serbia.

Yeah, that'll be finished by two-thousand-and-never. Get to the back of the queue guys and shout when you have something that can stand up on it's own merits.

Next!

The more unfinished space games are revelead, the more chance some of them are finished.
Does that make sense?

It's early access too. How delightful.

How many other small games studios are pottering around in some engine right now.

"Look Bob, if I make this into a space ship - make it into a YouTube video people get real excited and give us money."

"Without us even having to completely design and implement a finished product capable of standing up to critisism Dave?"

"That's right Bob. All we have to do is tell them all the money goes into 'development'"

"'development Dave, what's that?"

"Hahah exactly Bob...exactly"

edit, this made me think of a certain musical so I had to include this

Eh.. even though I'm old, I have a less cynical approach to early accessessess or paid betas or microtransactions or whatevers.
I've accepted that times have changed and actually revealing/selling games before they are finished is common practise now.
I also don't think that all small studios riding on currently popular genre bandwagons are just doing it for the money.
I prefer to judge each one on seperate basis.

And why is that bad? With cheap access to good game engines we get     loads of more games to play.
Sure we'll get a lot of mediocre or bad games but we also get lots of good ones because of it :)

One more year without significant added content and there will be more than just people complaining. So those magic Germanz need to be a little snappier!

My personal view is this. I backed SC with a basic package a few years ago now, and got a free ship package with my gpu, so i have only a small amont of money invested in SC, that money is long gone now, i don't worry about it, but yes i would love to see the game i saw marketed when i pledged.

Great detail and astounding ship designs aside, i have never seen great gameplay, or smooth animation, or even a decent flight model, all i have seen is laggy, jerky gameplay, excessively complicated ideas, and umpteen ship sales every few weeks. Nothing so far has enticed me to load this game other than a quick look out of curiosity, and even then the bug fest was bad, and nothing smooth ever, ok my system may be below recommended specs, but every video i have ever watched showed the same thing.

If cig was to drop everytthing in the pipeline, and just concentrate on getting sqd42 out, and a decent PU version that played smooth, was optimised and bug free, i would be happy and have my faith restored, but just now, everytime i see another new piece of the game, i think it will be the same old bugfest, lag, and jerkiness, same as all the other pieces.

Now i am not an ED or SC fanboy or dislike either, i am just your average older gamer, but i am losing faith i will ever see the game i dreamed of in SC in my lifetime.
I also backed ED at Beta, i have spent over 100 quid in ED, and i don't regret it, because i am playing it and enjoying it, (even though i have breaks between updates) just wish i could do the same sometime soon in SC.

Textbook definition of ...

[h=1]prejudice[/h]

[prej-uh-dis]

noun 1. an unfavorable opinion or feeling formed beforehand or without knowledge, thought, or reason.

2. any preconceived opinion or feeling, either favorable or unfavorable.

3. unreasonable feelings, opinions, or attitudes, especially of a hostile nature, regarding an ethnic, racial, social, or videogames developer.

Posting the cut version from the atv's last Fast Forward btw

It is only plagiarism if you get to market in second place! :p
It's usually the smaller indies that merge ideas of other bigger games to try to get something new from it (or do the same). But for this gameplay we already have Pulsar around, also early access!
.edit, not really after checking better, that one seems to be more locked to Survival, Pulsar would compare much better on gameplay.

I pledged around $3000 in 2013, then as time went by, I got more and more frustrated. Not because of the development time, but because I saw that CIG was not on top of the project. To many decisions was made wrong, to much rework, very frustrating. However now I received my pledge back, I just watch the show from the sideline.

At least they got the animations right, you never know maybe they even get the game released before SC gets out of the pipe.
However will not purchase anything before they have it ready. I'm done with early access.

If you are suggesting that I'm now prejudice against all early access space sims. It's true.

..and WHOSE fault is that? :-D

TBH, I don't mind it so much when the developer has a pretty clear plan to delivery and some kind of release year in mind. I think there have been some good examples but not so much in the space game market. The way Codemasters did Dirt Rally was pretty professional and they took the game all the way to market. Now I'd be the first one to point out that it's MUCH easier to complete a game about cars going around a track than it is to complete an open world space sim. So many space sims just aren't appropriate for early access when they've only been in development for a very short time.
