The Star Citizen Thread v 4

It stills annoy me slightly that we seeing teams go straight to trying to do a fully fledged PC game instead of getting their      together first and producing a one or two games on Android and iOS first. This is what hello world have done. It seems far to many people are going from I have a dream to build the next GTA to early access rather I have a dream to build the next Final Fantasy type game but let build a simple puzzle game for the iphone first, then may be you build up from there aim to build a new FF type game.

An yes I know the temptation to want to go from barely being able to cruel to trying to beat Usain Bolt in the 100 meters who need to learn to walk first [big grin]

Hello Games have produced one of their own games on PC. Shaun Murray worked for Criterium via EA on Burnout Paradise. Other devs all experienced.... Studios can be constricting if you have skills and ideas of you own...

The Star Citizen customers are astonishing. They themselves make up what prices they want the next 'concept spaceship' to be, and set the minimum at the price of a full computer game.

As with most forum polls 1181 votes out of 1 million citizens 《cough》is hard to feel. As representative of much. It is amusing though.... here you guys are responsible for how.much money we make from this it isn't our decision...

CIG has educated them well it seems ;)

One word comes to mind,
CULT

In other news, the PG in SC is now at 42% we have the word from Lando that physics are in places, forest, deserts is being worked on, and they are now building the systems.

This is very interesting, because what in the creators name has FD been doing all this time if they can build all that in just a few month?
Really looking forward to see the result as it should be ready around Christmas. (2016)

I hereby promise if they have anything better than what FD have done, I'm going to buy the game again.

Over a year has passed since the announcement that SQ42 is NOT going to be released in chapters. It is going to be released fully at once.

I didn't know that... *shrug* I guess that's a good thing? Or bad? How do you divide by zero?

Exploration is already in the game, as well as pirating, and repairing.

I meant the whole game mechanics as described by CIG. For example, here's the repairing gameplay design. While there's a temporary hack version in game, it's certainly nothing like what CIG have listed it to be. And the other mechanics are the same.

But there first game was Joe Danger a Ios and then Android, they useed funds from that to build and equip their own studio and then developed No Man Sky, as they themselves have that their dream game, Joe Danger was just a stepping stone for them, not enough of these people using instant access have their own stepping stones.

We will hold you to that.

Even if they do achieve that, it will be interesting to compare FD efforts to that of CIG.

Originally SQ42, the game we're currently getting as a single-release was those 3-5 EPs of like 10 missions each or so, that merged into one. It's common to confuse the actual EP 2, behind enemy lines (from stretch goals, that backers pre-6M will get as well) with that plan to roll SQ42 EP1 into several parts.

Yes, well, the proof is in the pudding. Let us know when they've actually shown their work. For me, it's quite hard to take any such future plans seriously after all the "Star Marine is coming in two weeks" talks.

On the other hand, Frontier seems to have a rule that they don't show anything which isn't nearly finished. The only thing we do know is that water worlds and worlds with life aren't coming this year, and I'd say that was pretty evident already, as they'll have to do atmospheric flight first.
Personally, I'm hoping for that to be the next big announcement, and not the "space legs". From what I've seen from Star Citizen, it doesn't really add much to the space sim gameplay, and I'd rather FD fleshed that out more first than if they went into other directions. Atmospheric flight would add much more to the very core of the game, which is flight, than walking around would.

Any source on that? By the way, if you want an advice from a lurker, don't do that until SC is really, really close to a release. I still remember certain user on a certain forum who bought back into SC at 2500$ (IIRC) after seeing SC 2.0, and then sought a refund some time later.

"[How far is Procedural generation?] How far along? It’s like… 42%? It’s not really quantifiable. You build it for one type of ecosystem. You build it for forests, then you have to do deserts, then tropical, then oceanic. It’s going to be a long process. But the stuff Disco’s seen recently, there are full planets now that are rocky, they have physics, you can get in a greycat and drive along."

The quote is was posted here with cut parts that mess with the context.

Though i think the "42%" was more a reference to SQ42 than something to be taken fully seriously, if someone would quantify it, it would be the devs who are responsible for it.

Well, CIG did mention in 10 for the developers, that they have been working on PG and they now have the tech that will blow anything out today out of the water. (10ftdevs) the last one.

Now as I'm personally interested in PG and what you can do with it, I know how much work and R&D that goes into it, so it must be a huge achievement if they can pull it off.
However rest a sure that I will check the result very carefully before I purchase any product from CIG again.

It was in the RTV.

ST: To give you guys an idea, these are the things that we’re thinking about. The fidelity of our planets are gonna be such that you’ve not seen this before. There’s no question.

OK, thanks. I do wonder how much time did it take FDev to reach the ability to drive on procedurally generated planets, as CIG claims to be at a similiar level of sophistication right now. I seem to remember someone associated with FDev claiming there is a driving mode being worked on, way before the announcement of Horizons and the infamous Sock Incident. CIG certainly had the advantage of CryEngine already having functional cars.

I'm 100% with you on this.
I really don't care that much about space legs for Elite but Atmospheric flight would be amazing.

I simply can't wait to see this Uber PG tech, with super high "fidelity" (shivers by that word), and in details you have NEVER seen before in any game before, it surly is going to be amazing.

FRONTIER you better get up in speed because the CIG's PG train is coming rocking down the track.

Can you source your claim of CIG's claim that they have tech that will blow anything else out of the water?! Such dramatization! :D

There's also other games around with PG Tech, that can blow SC and ED out of the water as well, would FD have the best PG Planets technology on the gaming industry attm? I don't think so!
