It stills annoy me slightly that we seeing teams go straight to trying to do a fully fledged PC game instead of getting their together first and producing a one or two games on Android and iOS first. This is what hello world have done. It seems far to many people are going from I have a dream to build the next GTA to early access rather I have a dream to build the next Final Fantasy type game but let build a simple puzzle game for the iphone first, then may be you build up from there aim to build a new FF type game.
An yes I know the temptation to want to go from barely being able to cruel to trying to beat Usain Bolt in the 100 meters who need to learn to walk first [big grin]
Seriously though - there's been a lot of scamming with such things. Didn't one guy pretend all his funding went into security bonds to secure future development, but instead spent it all on a house?
The Star Citizen customers are astonishing. They themselves make up what prices they want the next 'concept spaceship' to be, and set the minimum at the price of a full computer game.
CIG has educated them well it seems![]()
Over a year has passed since the announcement that SQ42 is NOT going to be released in chapters. It is going to be released fully at once.
Exploration is already in the game, as well as pirating, and repairing.
Hello Games have produced one of their own games on PC. Shaun Murray worked for Criterium via EA on Burnout Paradise. Other devs all experienced.... Studios can be constricting if you have skills and ideas of you own...
One word comes to mind,CULT
In other news, the PG in SC is now at 42% we have the word from Lando that physics are in places, forest, deserts is being worked on, and they are now building the systems.
This is very interesting, because what in the creators name has FD been doing all this time if they can build all that in just a few month?
Really looking forward to see the result as it should be ready around Christmas. (2016)
I hereby promise if they have anything better than what FD have done, I'm going to buy the game again.
I didn't know that... *shrug* I guess that's a good thing? Or bad? How do you divide by zero?
Yes, well, the proof is in the pudding. Let us know when they've actually shown their work. For me, it's quite hard to take any such future plans seriously after all the "Star Marine is coming in two weeks" talks. In other news, the PG in SC is now at 42% we have the word from Lando that physics are in places, forest, deserts is being worked on, and they are now building the systems.

Any source on that?
"[How far is Procedural generation?] How far along? It’s like… 42%? It’s not really quantifiable. You build it for one type of ecosystem. You build it for forests, then you have to do deserts, then tropical, then oceanic. It’s going to be a long process. But the stuff Disco’s seen recently, there are full planets now that are rocky, they have physics, you can get in a greycat and drive along."

On the other hand, Frontier seems to have a rule that they don't show anything which isn't nearly finished. The only thing we do know is that water worlds and worlds with life aren't coming this year, and I'd say that was pretty evident already, as they'll have to do atmospheric flight first.
Personally, I'm hoping for that to be the next big announcement, and not the "space legs". From what I've seen from Star Citizen, it doesn't really add much to the space sim gameplay, and I'd rather FD fleshed that out more first than if they went into other directions. Atmospheric flight would add much more to the very core of the game, which is flight, than walking around would.
Any source on that? By the way, if you want an advice from a lurker, don't do that until SC is really, really close to a release. I still remember certain user on a certain forum who bought back into SC at 2500$ (IIRC) after seeing SC 2.0, and then sought a refund some time later.

ST: To give you guys an idea, these are the things that we’re thinking about. The fidelity of our planets are gonna be such that you’ve not seen this before. There’s no question.

OK, thanks. I do wonder how much time did it take FDev to reach the ability to drive on procedurally generated planets, as CIG claims to be at a similiar level of sophistication right now. I seem to remember someone associated with FDev claiming there is a driving mode being worked on, way before the announcement of Horizons and the infamous Sock Incident. CIG certainly had the advantage of CryEngine already having functional cars.
Well, CIG did mention in 10 for the developers, that they have been working on PG and they now have the tech that will blow anything out today out of the water. (10ftdevs) the last one.
