Why Erimus and I support SEPP for the Dangerous Games (and why DWE and explorers should, even if they hate PP)

And that's not bad or evil in itself, but I believe we should be aware of it: Being able to ask 'is this helpful to our cause in the long run or just satisfying at the moment' is a major challenge in campaigning (and elsewhere). Emotions will run high during the Games. Posts will be written in anger, discord chats will be full of stressed people who invested time and effort in a cause that might be lost. That will be the time when it will be easy to blame others, to issue commands instead of leading by example, to scold instead of motivate.

Let's be careful. I know from professional experience how easy it is to get lost during political campaigns, and how hard it is to manage them. I think we have to admit that it is one, with all the conflict it will bring.

Thanks Kuroshio,
you have summarized my feelings very very well. SEPP and Kancro will get my available gametime (if it is not needed for the Children of Raxxla) during the Games for the sake of exploration but I will keep out of any manipulative chores and be very alert to any manipulation that may be tried on us by whoever. Always ask yourself "Cui bono?".

June eh? I thought it was July. Good, good. I can do June, July would have been a stretch. I'll look out for a sploration CG.

Don't give a flying frisbee about PP, but I do about the people organizing SEPP.

Do the CG on the edge of the bubble please :D

It starts on June 30th and will last 4 weeks. ;)

Always ask yourself "Cui bono?".

"Who benefits"? That's simple. Since SEPP is fighting for all Explorers, everyone one who loves exploration benefits.

And conversely anyone who opposes SEPP is only hurting themselves. Because:

1. Wasting time opposing any other group will set you father behind in CGs, so it only benefits the other four competitors.
2. Everyone is at least part Explorer. So if SEPP wins, then everyone wins.

But let's be real, our fight is bigger than SEPP. And MUCH bigger than PP. SEPP is the banner we are gathering behind. But our real mission is advance exploration for every explorer. So no, SEPP will not be engaging in tribalism, because whether they realize it or not everyone in Elite is part of our tribe

I mean did anyone buy Elite thinking, " hey look at this huge galaxy! I think I'll stay in one system as long as I can!! ". No. We are all Explorers. So our fight is for every CMDR.

I'm kind of curious to know if the accumulated exploration data I have will be needed by yourselves or if I should sell at Jaques when he turns up. I can buckyball back once I've docked with him at BP though so in theory I can be back in time, I just need to know what, where and when.

Same here,

i really need to sell my data there. but i will head back (hopefully) in time and spend that explo data on any SEPP related cg if one arises.

We won't know the exact details of the CGs until Zac releases them, on or very close to June 30. So try to near the bubble around that time so that you are within striking distance should the need arise :)

Sir, you got yourself a deal :)

Perhaps our common ancestry has something to with a certain kind of distrust reflex where rallying cries and calls for common causes are concerned. Often more distrust than strictly necessary. (Kuroshio: Ad homineming himself since 1997.)

Dr Kaii : I support you, but tell me this as I have glanced at the literature for DG, so I might be wrong :
Do you want my Exploration data ? or is this CG race something else ?
The reason I ask is because I will be at Beagle Point by the end of may, so if you need my help in the bubble I will have to self destruct once I am at the end of my DW trip (which I don't mind). I am the type that can't run back to the bubble from 65000 Ly away in less than weeks :)

Hello buddy - long time no speak!

No don't self destruct...unless you are in a cheap ship? Then you can keep your exploration data, just blow up in an SRV and choose to spawn in a sidewinder :)

But let's talk closer to the time - don't know if any of the CGs will be exploration based

Sorry typo - July! Just when I will have settled down with my CV1 and 1070 (God willing)

This should paste them to my face

I thought that method of getting home with your data intact was an urban myth. Seems pretty weak--I thought the DW types prided themselves on doing things the hard way.

The important thing first: I'll support SEPP with my entire available game time during the Dangerous Games. I think an exploration power is a great idea, and SEPP has shown their dedication to the cause in an impressive effort over the time I've been playing. (Also, I'd easily follow Ziljan, Erimus and Dr. Kaii into the jaws of hell where matters of exploration are concerned.)

But.

I'm a little worried. (Maybe I shouldn't have read "The Hunger Games" at the same time the Dangerous Games were announced.) To me, the whole concept smells like a way to artificially generate friction and conflict among players and player groups, a way to reinforce an "us versus them" mindset: Let's show the pew-pew crowd what explorers can achieve. Let Frontier see how dedicated we are.

Frontier created one of my, if not the favorite video game ever, I have nothing but respect (and money) for them, but they are game masters, and right now they are pretty good at it. People I'd never thought of getting involved with the Power Play system, me included, are suddenly taking part in it, for good reasons: Benefits to our play styles, supporting our friends, rallying to our cause. Drawn into conflicts that normally don't matter to them. Part of me feels like I have been well played, the carrot is too tasty to ignore, the piper's melody is too lovely.

Don't support it then, some might say, but that's not what this is about. I want SEPP to become an exploration power. What I'm worried about is how it becomes one. How much we will be drawn into the "us versus them" mindset. Other player groups are also people who dedicate time and effort to the game and their causes, and we are forced into conflict with them. Let's not see them as enemies to crush. They are players like us, striving for recognition like we do, and they are forced to play the Games just like we are, it's the only way to become a power.

Let's be the good guys here. Let's see this as a challenge we set upon ourselves, not a challenge by others. We didn't need opponents to get to Beagle Point, we needed base camp spirit.

ps to Kancro Vantas and the SEPP leadership: I really wouldn't want to be in your shoes right now. You are counting on the support of the most dedicated, but also the craziest and most individualistic players I've ever had the pleasure to know in nearly 20 years of online gaming. I hope you know what you got yourselves into. :)
.
In certain martial arts, the idea is never to be aggressive... and yet, also to never allow an attack to be successful. This is a good way to view the mentality of a Power that doesn't care about "Power".
.
The idea that shear numbers can be a deterrent is valid. If SEPP wins, it will be because the majority of players spoke.
.
Since it's focus would be outward... those who squabble over the bubble would have fewer concerns about encroachment and war with a group like that.
.
There will still be those who try to test it though... "ruin the day", "watch the world burn", etc... Even when we are open to all and refuse no one. I've always been taught that a redirected attack is an unsuccessful one. This is a basic underlying principle in Aikido. Accept the energy of the opponent... and turn it into something else.
.
I am hoping... that SEPP becomes the Power that can accept all forms of attack... and redirect them toward a better game and experience for everyone.

Already sent Dognosh a pm about this.

Since Jacques will be in Beagle Point, he has the option to sell his data there, and then blow up in 2.1. After which he will face a much cheaper rebuy rather than losing the whole ship after blowing up his SRV.

Also the SRV "shuttle service" may be patched out in 2.1, so if he is going to use it, it should be very soon rather than later. Just in case Jacques doesn't have a Cartographics service.

If I break off my current track, I can get to the bubble by July 8. That's too late if I reckon the CG ending by June 28.
I'll be with you in spirit, somewhere in the eastern reaches of the galaxy.

Confused, how would it be cheaper ?

Warning: The SRV-to-Sidewinder-in-the-bubble respawn is not available anymore in the Beta. Ship-destruct-to-Sidewinder-in-the-bubble is, but with the associated loss of data.

edit@Dognosh: Well, you'd at least get paid for the Bubble-to-Beagle data.
