In any game whenever I've personally asked for help, I end up getting the usual "uninstall" comments when I don't perform to standard right away. The poster above said something about helping, but I don't trust anybody to actually do so. And I'd like to see how much I'll need to change what I do first before I can make any adjustments. I'm a kinesthetic learner.
I see it everywhere I go in gaming forums, and it is insulting every single time I see it. In the context of Elite, it is related to harder NPCs; the majority of players saying it appear to be PvP types unaffected by the change. The rest of us who play more leisurely (aka "casuals") are often the ones who suffer the most when difficulty ratchets up suddenly.
The issue is, the simple fact is not everyone has the physical skill set, the resources (I myself play on a hand-me-down KB&M) or the time to, as the elitist crows puts it, "git gud". People have no idea how to be people anymore, and those with a super high MLG skill set demand everyone all play at their level, that every video game they ever pick up all be catered to their skills, and on you if you can't match them. If the game isn't difficult, they scream at developers to make it difficult or they'll take their business elsewhere. When someone not of their level has an issue, they swarm on them with "GIT GUD SCRUB" comments; in the context of Elite, they're then surprised when nobody wants anything to do with them and they stay in Solo. It is precisely because I can't stand these sorts of people that I personally play in Solo.
The simple fact is that players who yell at others to "GIT GUD" don't actually want these players actually getting better. They want to always have this aura about being "better" than everyone else and lord it over those who can't succeed at getting better on their own for whatever reason. They react with toxic levels of schadenfreude when games get harder. If a player were to actually get better, then said player could challenge them and knock them off the throne they've set for themselves.
If you really, REALLY want to see the game get better, and the players get better, then offer to help. Offer to mentor. Offer to train. If you just say "git gud" then quite frankly you need to be isolated. You already have your reward. You have nothing further to add but sneering and contempt. And so, you deserve it right back.
This is one reason why gaming communities are often so toxic. Everything's a competition when it doesn't need to be.
And I'm an autist that literally re-wired my brain when I became self-aware. It is in no way difficult to build those skills necessary to being good at games like Elite Dangerous. I've had the game for 6 months or so and I'm able to hold my own against people in much better ships, with more experience that spend all their time doing pvp.In any game whenever I've personally asked for help, I end up getting the usual "uninstall" comments when I don't perform to standard right away. You have no excuse.
I don't know, when I take a casual scan across the forum, I spot some helpful people right away, even in the group section.
People seem intent on making it one, however.
You must suck at this game then, because they only encourage people to get better at games when they write a grade school essay about why they are offended by people telling them to get better. This makes you sounds like you’ve been #Triggered and you need a #SafeSpace to hide under a blanket and have a cry in.I see it everywhere I go in gaming forums, and it is insulting every single time I see it. .
How presumptuous of you to assume that this only effects the lazy players. I am a bounty hunter by trade, and have killed thousands of NPCs, and maybe a dozen players in my year of the game. Harder NPCs make the game fun to play. We don’t all desire the ability to just fly an unarmed sidey into a Haz Res and farm a billion credits. We want to learn to fly, fight, and win. We hone our skills against the hardest NPCs so that if we get attacked by a player, we can win, or at least lay some punishment on them before we die. Besides, some people enjoy flying cheap ships and just fighting in combat without even worrying about the money. They enjoy the actual challenge that comes with extremely hard NPCs.In the context of Elite, it is related to harder NPCs; the majority of players saying it appear to be PvP types unaffected by the change. The rest of us who play more leisurely (aka "casuals") are often the ones who suffer the most when difficulty ratchets up suddenly .
Not one person started Elite with the exact skill set required to be good. They actually GOT GOOD. They enjoyed the game, and invested a bit of money to get some items to help them play better. I use a cheap KB&M in conjunction with a $35 (USD) Logitech joystick. Just because you don’t have the desire to hone your skills, does NOT make those who do “Elitists.”The issue is, the simple fact is not everyone has the physical skill set, the resources (I myself play on a hand-me-down KB&M) or the time to, as the elitist crows puts it, "git gud".
So a few highly experienced players set a high standard, and expect you to hold up to that standard, and you have a problem with it? You don’t like being held to a high standard? This seems reminiscent to the mentality that millennials that got participation trophies simply for not napping during the big game.People have no idea how to be people anymore, and those with a super high MLG skill set demand everyone all play at their level, that every video game they ever pick up all be catered to their skills, and on you if you can't match them.
Welcome to the free market. This is how companies operate. I’m truly sorry that I have to explain free market economics to you on a video game forum, because you didn’t learn it in primary school. Buying things must be a triggering experience, since nothing in the free market is going to be spot on perfect to what you want.If the game isn't difficult, they scream at developers to make it difficult or they'll take their business elsewhere.
With so many people crying about so many different things, is it not plausible that they simply grow tired of answering the same questions, from the same people every few days? Genuine advice may have failed, and they are now offering something with a little more vitriol. Maybe they honestly think the sting will affect the change that the kinder methods have failed to affect. Others may simply be reactive with hostility because people like you post up crying about how bad you are at the game, and demand that Frontier makes it easier to accommodate you, and your personal limitations in time and incentive, effectively destroying the enjoyment they have with the game. What about those like you? If you make NPC easier, then players like myself will be forced to look elsewhere for a fun combat engagement. And you and your kind of player will take the punishment involved in it.When someone not of their level has an issue, they swarm on them with "GIT GUD SCRUB" comments; in the context of Elite, they're then surprised when nobody wants anything to do with them and they stay in Solo. Another unwarranted assumption based on what you believe their reaction is. But why not GET GOOD, and knock them off of their proverbial throne, as you say. Take the time, and a tiny bit of capital. Invest in your ability, and track them down and knock them down. I play in open around Sol. CMDR Nuvey is my name, if you want to start somewhere. They react with toxic levels of schadenfreude when games get harder. If a player were to actually get better, then said player could challenge them and knock them off the throne they've set for themselves.

Argumentum ad odium. You’re angry, and you feel that your anger justifies their being punished. But they have done nothing wrong, you have. You refuse to “get good” so you will be punished through due course of the game. Your income will be lower. You’ll be attacked more frequently. You’ll struggle, and then you’ll quit. If you refuse to get good, you will stop playing. So, why should Frontier indulge you, when you’re likely to quit anyways? If you just say "git gud" then quite frankly you need to be isolated.
What reward? You already have your reward.
Assertion without evidence. You have nothing further to add but sneering and contempt.
And they will handle your contempt with much more nobility than you have shown in this post. And so, you deserve it right back.
It’s a game. Players are competitive. Who exactly are YOU to demand that WE not be competitive? Competition builds skill, refines products, and wins wars. Crying has never achieved anything, so why should we try it when the evidence points towards competition as the answer? This is one reason why gaming communities are often so toxic. Everything's a competition when it doesn't need to be.

Forum Rules should stop posters from provocative and antagonising posts that have no other reason than to wind you up. Far too many gangs of Elitist posters with the single aim of putting down threads. Mods please act more to allow open discussions and NOT allow argumentative baiting posts. Thanks.
Oh your poor fii-fiis.
People can say whatever the they like, that's the nature of the online landscape. If I'm better than you at the game, I have every right to tell you to 'git gud' because I kicked your ass.
This comes into play with pvp, trading and exploration when I decide to do it. Granted, I'm nicer than most and will offer advice and paths to do so, I've written a couple extensive guides concerning trade routes for people who aren't as fortunate as to discover them by accident like I did, but that doesn't change the fact that my message is the same as the message of the guy who blew your ship to hell as you were exiting a letterbox then taunted you in the chat telling you to 'git gud'.
And finally; saying players should be isolated and removed from the crowd is not only going to make the game less competitive, but it'll also take away a major goal for players- that being so that they can get good at the game, and surpass the people so they can tell them to 'git gud' and look good to the people around them because they *drumroll* GOT GOOD.
And the whole toxic thing really isn't true. I've found that once you start ignoring all the idiots that tell you to kill yourself, or you learn to laugh at their shoddy insults the community is not only less toxic, but you can actually make a lot of really, really good friends in the community.
And complaining on the forums about the community being toxic is what I'd call a self-fulfilling prophecy; you're going to draw the crappy people out of the woodwork just so they can prove you right, while the intelligent people will either act as I have or flat out ignore you.
