"Git gud" is a term that needs to be stamped out of existence.

I regret making this thread. It was meant to be a general rant about gaming communities in general, not specific to this game. For the record I've been playing MMOs and multiplayer online games since 2005 and I was just finally tired of the same old pattern of behavior. But pointing it out appears to have opened up a Pandora's Box.

Argumentum ad odium. You’re angry, and you feel that your anger justifies their being punished. But they have done nothing wrong, you have. You refuse to “get good” so you will be punished through due course of the game. Your income will be lower. You’ll be attacked more frequently. You’ll struggle, and then you’ll quit. If you refuse to get good, you will stop playing. So, why should Frontier indulge you, when you’re likely to quit anyways?

Oh no, I'll most certainly adapt as I can and I'll likely overcome it. And quite frankly, I'm not going to quit just because it's gotten harder. You're also one making assumptions based on preconceived notions. If I quit, it'll be because other games are taking my attention (Overwatch, Legion).

Another unwarranted assumption based on what you believe their reaction is. But why not GET GOOD, and knock them off of their proverbial throne, as you say.

Because I'm Samwell Tarly, not Stannis Baratheon, you Roose Bolton you.

No. it's not trolling. It's just a culmination of years of dealing with these sorts of people. Hell, I saw someone use "git gud" in relation to SKYRIM some three or four years ago (In the form of "LTP"). Which is by no means a difficult game to play (the topic was in relation to the player getting fireball nuked by Krosis on Shearpoint). In relation to Elite, my concern is that bounty hunting, a profession that already doesn't pay well in relation to trading, is going to have a reduction in income because they'll make the NPCs tougher to take out; my solution is to bring up the payments of each individual kill. Every time I post it, I get people jumping down my throat with "Git gud" whether openly, or passive aggressively.

It just suggests to me that they really don't want players "gitting gud" they just want to keep others from enjoying the game.

I've been discussing this a lot in the beta discussions.

You're exactly right, what it comes down to is that FD has a ten year plan for the game. So to keep us all entertained for 10 years while they continue to develop things, there's no option other than for each and every activity to be a grind. Otherwise we would earn everything and get bored, pick it up 3 months later and do it again with the new content, rinse and repeat. Like every other game in the world does.

While the AI has become much more of a challenge than ever before, the most important factor is that bounty payout has been the same since 1.3ish.
Too hard; not hard enough... potato;pototo... the 75% cut per hour is what really sucks because each and every update adds more duration to our play instead of enjoyment/reward. I know some people will claim the money is the same but it isn't. I've personally been a combat-only pilot for the majority of the 3,000 hours I have invested in this game. It's nothing like it should be for the length of time it takes to kill the new and "improved" (aka extended) NPC's.

FD needs to adjust the grind, period, so that there's one activity per role that the farmers can farm if they want to. I farmed for a long time to get what I have only because I knew I'd enjoy the game more once I had the best ship (at the time). I've always owned gamesharks and game genies (throwback) from Super Mario World to Sonic 2 (up, down, left, right, A, start at opening sequence). I enjoy taking the easy way because it's more fun. Other people enjoy realism. Others enjoy challenge. Others enjoy PvP. The list goes on. They seem like they're siding with the hardcore crowd who wants more of a challenge because that's a win-win to them. More challenge equates to more time spent per fight, which also adds to immersion for some. They'll do whatever they can to slow progress down for the players. If they had more confidence they'd know that this is a game I'd play for a long time regardless, it's the whole reason I have a HOTAS and the primary reason I went from an ultrabook to a gaming rig at age 30. It's only when they add more and more time-sinks that makes me want to stop playing altogether.

This is admittedly 95% my complaint about harder AI. I don't mind harder AI at all, but I don't particularly like time sinks unless I get something out of it, even if I'm having fun doing it. I don't like it in life, certainly not in a video game.

You're incorrect about Sonic 2's cheat codes. It was a convoluted mess of dealing with an irritating hexadecimal system in the sound test and required you to have some knowledge of in-jokes. Sonic 1's cheat code was a variant of the Konami code, though. At least it wasn't like Sonic 3's ridiculous "short window" code entry that I never managed to actually do.

Git gud is just another way for people to say "you noob". Except git gud for some reason is more acceptable since it's just a passive-aggressive insult rather than a straight up insult like "you noob".

A lot of uneducated kids today use 'git gud' because they think it's a new term, a new way to express themselves, something they can call their own... when they fail to realize that 'git gud' has existed for a long time... as "L2P". It does amuse me though to see new generations of chocomilk drinking testaments to the failure of an education system come into their own and try to make their awesome ways of insulting people.

Everyone who uses 'git gud' are simply noobs who need to L2P before they add a new level of stupid to an existing insult and throw it out there as if it was there own.

Soon they will come up with another word for 'troll' and think they have revolutionized the internet.

Sit down, stop touching the keyboard and finish your chocomilk kids.

Talking of acceptable passive aggressive insults..most of your post is just that! - Schoolboy error! LOL

Sure, but you shouldn't try to FORCE people to tread on eggshells just because you don't like certain words or phrases.
No of course not, and I like when people use it funny. But the aggressive kind of guys with there superiority complex are meh. Nobody needs to get good.

The most appropriate use of the phrase is when somebody demands the game change in difficulty (note difficulty =/= time investment required) to suit their needs, rather than improving as a player or simply avoiding the 'too difficult' stuff. Especially when they make a grab for the moral high ground, or claim superiority as a player. The opposite situation would be when somebody legitimately asks for assistance, as they are already taking said 'advice' and the git gud comment is merely unconstructive. Some people will be unpleasant no matter what you try to do, and people just gotta learn to deal with it on their own instead of grabbing for the victim card every time.

The issue is, the simple fact is not everyone has the physical skill set, the resources (I myself play on a hand-me-down KB&M) or the time to, as the elitist crows puts it, "git gud".

This and other people may actually spend more time playing different games. Or maybe they have different amounts of free time. Or different responsibilities. People play to have fun, not to get good at a game. After all, what practical use is that skill outside of that specific game?

The simple fact is that players who yell at others to "GIT GUD" don't actually want these players actually getting better. They want to always have this aura about being "better" than everyone else and lord it over those who can't succeed at getting better on their own for whatever reason. They react with toxic levels of schadenfreude when games get harder. If a player were to actually get better, then said player could challenge them and knock them off the throne they've set for themselves.

The worst thing is when people use it to feel all macho. If you're a real combat pilot and putting your life on the line then yeah you can have a reason to feel macho about your combat skills. If you're learning genuine martial arts because you need to use them on a regular basis then again, you could be justified in feeling macho. But this is a game. And like most games you are learning to quickly move a cursor onto very specific areas of the screen. There is no more reason to be macho about this game than if you were playing Plants vs Zombies.

If someone were to tell me to "git gud" then I'll reply with "git a life"

You dont hear the 'good' pilots demand harmless npc should be aces. The lower rank npcs are fine for even the weakest pilots. Unfortunately, quite a few 'casuals' demand that the greatest challenges be reduced to their skill level. As SJA said, the point is that there should be fun for all levels of pilots.

And if some cant deal with the fact some challenges are too much for them and they'd rather remove the fun of loads of other people instead of picking more appropriate fights I'm gonna say: git gud.

As for the OP: if you want training or help, go to the Pilots Academy, plenty of folks on standby.

Nah, doesn't matter what somebody is complaining about. If somebody complain about the difficult you try to explain what is going on, giving tipps and try to show why its not actually that dificult and what one can do about it. All People who say "Git gud" are doing is demonstration there utter lack of knowledge of the game and that they have no clue what they are talking about, since the can't even explain the simplest things which is why they have to grab out some catchphrase they think sounds cool hoping nobody notices there lack of knowledge.

Offer to mentor. Offer to train.

this.

but to be fair, all people rally to heighten their experience of the game. I'm no good combat pilot, my reflexes aren't what they used to be 20 years ago, and i haven't played a game with a joystick for almost 15 years. i like the new AI, because it is catering my play style - intense battles, if i want to go for combat, no farming, permanent danger, flying fast and small ships. if i'd enjoy being superpowerfull in a RES/CZ in a corvette/Anaconda, melting npcs an evening the week, I might hate this update.

so, if somebody uses a phrase like that, very often he simply wants his experience not been dumped down.

for exampel: people like the new missions also in context of backgroundsimultaion, mission givers offering tips what you can do for their faction beside missions. i play the BGS a lot, and i hate those texts. why? because they are gamey, too simplistic... they are dumping down my "knowledge" about BGS mechanics!

Well, I never said I was against passive-aggressiveness, so I don't see any error in any part of what I stated.

I am just saying the 'git gud' statement is nothing but a rehashed version of something already in existence, except 'git gud' in both the way it is spelled and pronounced makes you sound like you are 8 years old when you use it. Perhaps that is the ingenuity of the word. Whichever 8 year old who came up with it managed to turn everyone else who use it into versions of his own 8 year old mind.

This might also be the reason why the first word I associate with 'git gud' is 'patty cake'.

Go figure.

lol I hate the term too. I am not sure if it is because of the superiority attitude of the types who post it, or if it is just the terrible abuse of the English language.... Possibly a combination of the 2.

That being said, with regards to ED... imo even the most toxic poster here (and the majority of people in game - and I have had my fair share of rants myself) is a teddy bear compared to some of the people in games like DOTA 2 and Counter Strike.

Go into those games as a newbie and it is horrible.... Enough that it put me off playing both of them for life, not just because I was poor (though compared to the ones playing I was) but just because I would not choose to spend time with those people in real life so why would I choose to in a game?.

OTOH I have met some stellar types in ED, in Battlefield, in COD, in Gears of War, WarThunder and in BF Bad Company (such is the nature of it, I have also met my fair share of racist/sexist/what everist twerps too....... but still I found those games less intimidating to go into as a new player than DOTA2 or CS)

Then again as someone who follows most of the threads on the topic of the new AI, I can't say I've seen 'git gud' used a whole lot. People have certainly told others to get better and to rethink their tactics or even the way they play, which is 100% legitimate criticism, but not with the very specific wording you're refering to. This thread is probably the first time it's used en-masse, as a tongue in cheek reaction to the OP.

First thing that came to mind was Sheriff Roscoe P Coltrane yelling at the Duke Boys... "Git, git, git..." so now the abiding image when anyone uses it will be that of an incompetent comedy stooge trying to assert authority...

If someone asks me how he can improve his combat skills or if I could teach him a few new tricks I'll gladly help.

If someone says: "FRONTIER you are DESTROYING the game!!!! I can't even kill an elite Anaconda anymore - WORST game design EVER!!!"

I'll tell him to get better or show him pictures of cats.

Git gud, just means... hey you, yeah you, the one with a life and wife, WORM!.. Stop living in the real world, and you get the hell in game and practice your letterbox entry with your Cutter at max boost!

:D

Enjoying real life and having a spouse doesn't make you bad at the game, but I suppose they could provide a crutch if you are.

The Git Gud crowd are rarely completely without knowledge of the subject. Often they know quite a bit; if they didn't they wouldn't be elitists. Some are just trolls looking to rile people up, others are simply looking down on plebs. Honestly, this sounds like you're projecting.
