I cancelled my CV1 pre-order

Some people have neck, shoulder, and back problems that HMD's like the dk2 can exacerbate. However, the cv1 is supposed to be much lighter and with a better weight distribution minimizing many such issues. The same goes with the Vive until you take into consideration all the cables.

Anyone affected that much by the weight of an HMD is probably too ill to sit up in bed.

Good for you that you closed your preorder, now also you got the attention on you.

Never ending Threads that say the same useless thing over and over again.

I think that's a little discourteous frankly. Someone like myself who's perfectly fine, can still get neck ache after an hour of balancing the Vive on their head- it's extended use that can cause that, not by an attempt to put on a headset and metaphorically breaking their neck due to illness.

The CV1 is a better fit as Mosait said, but any headset including the DK2 can still cause problems due to the nature of the real world being hidden and the user's body movements whilst wearing one.

Again, it's the failure to solve simple comfort issues. I sit in an armchair to play and just lean my head back into the head rest if I get fatigued (which is hardly ever). I see reviews with pictures of people perched on typists chairs, over stretching to reach their controls and then complaining about comfort. The inability some people have to gather the necessary ancillary programs (voice attack) and input devices (HOTAS) to make it all hang together is jaw dropping. Simple problem solving, adapt, overcome and end up with a far better experience.

I cancelled my pre-order today after reading all the comments about God rays. I have upgraded my video card to a GTX980ti, improved my power supply to 850w, and added a 4*usb3 pcie card, in preparation to CV1.
I only play ED, So I've decided to wait until the issues with God rays are corrected.
I have no idea how long it will take. Maybe ED will give us contrast control, or Oculus will change the lenses in CV2.

I do not own a DK2.

Again, you over simplify an issue to condescend others where you have no problem. Good for you.

Myself, I have a damaged cervical vertebrae. So, I just need to be aware of my position and the weight distribution of the HMD I'm wearing. This is where my reply originates, and where the better lightweighting and weight distribution of the cv1 are important. BTW, I am able to wear the dk2 for hours without issue.

Out of curiosity, is your next commentary going to be about those with vision problems using an HMD, and how they're also inferior to you?

Only if they expect the CV1 etc to magically cure their sight problems.

Oddly enough, there was a report by a journalist with an eye condition which normally would preclude any sort of close up game screen, however they found that they could use the HMD very well.

That's a pity - I don't have a problem with GodRays in Elite once I'm actually in the cockpit - just the initial loading graphic/logo. Your brain tends to tune them out after a while anyway. Pity you cancelled the Rift without seeing if it was an issue for you once you had the device.

VR isn't a one trick pony - there are many other games/experiences which are worthy of your time in VR, beyond just Elite.... But hey ho....

i think after august oculus will be all caught up, htc seem to be getting near that point. so there wont be any epic wait to get any headset. less time to dwell on the downsides and more new stuff excitement. he can always re-order.

A DK2 is heavy. It won't make your head fall off, but after you have been wearing it for a few hours, you will experience neck ache. At least until your neck gets used to it. I've clocked hundreds of hours on my DK2, so I am speaking from personal experience and I have no illness or medical condition. I'm in perfect health.
The first Vive was pretty much the same as the DK2 in terms of weight and the side of straps. I understand the release Vive is a little lighter, but not by much.

The other issue with the DK2 (and the Vive I tried) was the big warm screen and the large straps stop you losing heat through your head, quite the reverse - you get warmer. So while that's no a problem on cooler days, when the warm weather hits you have to stop playing. It is just too uncomfortably hot.

The primary reasons for my choosing the CV1 were that is was lighter, with smaller straps and used a breathable material. I don't think that will eliminate the DK2's problems totally, but it will greatly reduce them.

I've had nothing but comfort issues with the CV1. I wouldn't say I have a large misshapen head (maybe I do!) but I can barely keep the thing on for more than an hour without a 10 minute break. It really seems to put pressure on my brow, it doesn't feel much at first but as I say - an hour in and its agony. Its almost as bad as my Sony HMZ-t1.

I've tried adjusting the device and even when really loose it still does the same.

The DK2 is easily good enough resolution wise and the CV1 is even better. You'll be waiting at least 3yrs for 4k, maybe 4 or 5. Meanwhile, you are stuck with a 2d monitor(s) and I wouldn't even waste a second of my time gaming with rubbish like that.
You are talking to a "grass is always greener if I wait" type. The tech will be fifty times better, twenty times less expensive and all they have to do is nothing, but wait.

You know how good VR is, as do I and all of the others who have HMD's. Just nod politely when they are speaking and then go back to having fun. :D

Yep, they're a bunch of Luddits.

Shame.

Only upside is that my CV1 may arrive 13 minutes earlier now.....

Nosh

Are you doing the helium and liquid nitrogen mods to deal with the excessive weight and heat?

Did you try taking it out of the box first? :D
