Its not the distance that really matters, its the amount of nodes used in the calculation. Have you ever tried to calculate a route near the galaxy center?
The 1000 ly ensures you don't end up with too many nodes when the route goes through the galaxy center.

Yeah, it's a balance of slow plots in very dense areas (the core) and plots failing in very sparse areas (the rim, and above/below the galactic plane).

Ideally we'd have the option of plotting waypoints along the way. Move a few hundred Ly, select a system (A) and plot a route. If it succeeds, move another few Ly and plot again to a new system (B); it doesn't replace your plotted route but starts plotting from A to B. If it succeeds again, move on again and plot from B -> C. If it fails, search around for other B candidates.

You could do the same thing by plotting routes of a few hundred Ly, then when you reach the end, plot again; but that way you could get stuck at dead-ends. This way you can search for a route before setting off.

The loading of NPC portraits is still incredibly slow (around 10 seconds most of the time). Can you please add a loading indicator/animation to them if you can't speed them up more than this?

Yeah, very slow on mine. The empty space looks a bit odd, a placeholder image would be good. (A silhouette, or a pixelated/compressed/white-noise image which - when the avatar is created - resolves into the NPC's image).
 
Download speed currently incredibly slow, getting 0.14 MB/s, usually hits much higher than this. Is there a problem with the download servers?

Edit: Speed test says 95mbit/s so apparently not a problem with my internet connection.

If I get a great roll, it can be ruined by a special effect I don't want? Is that how it is being tweaked? Really?

Like if I'm trying to optimize for range, get a good roll and then get slapped with Concordant, when I have no intention of healing anyone but have to take the heat increase anyway...hmpf, no like

Honestly, all the other abilities are fine, in most all cases...I just want the ability to reject concordant without losing a great roll on the other stats.

I'm a fighter, not a lover.


That being said...excellent update, love how hard you folks work and it really shows! Looking forward to release on Thursday ;) ;) ;)
 
Bias the rolls for engineer-crafted items, following several factors:
- Existence of a special effect tends to mean you rolled nearer the top of the ranges
- Items tend to be more consistent in extremity of positive and negative mods when both exist

I don't see any change. Am still feeling playing casino...

It would be nice then if there was a node limit instead of a distance limit. max 250 nodes, or some such...
 
Please can we get a fix in the next patch for the overlay/context menu that pops up when a xbox/playstation controller is in use. When A/B/X/Y are held for any length of time? It prevents any mappings from working when mapped to said buttons. Its a game breaker I honestly will probably never play again due to it. I travel weekly Hotas isn’t a good option for flights. An option to turn it off would be nicer those of us who have are controls memorized. I have made a bug report on this as well. And too large outfittin UI is still there. Considering that the RNG is still there I will take another break from this game. I Just can't even imagine the grind ammount... then roll... bad roll... bad roll.. bad roll.... good roll but... special effect that I didn't want. another roll. bad roll. all materials lost - back to the grind. NO.
If the rng is in place I think it the game would be better without engineers.

There are no options available for this in the Graphical menu. FD please comment on this if this is a configurable item or just a code implementation and your description is incorrect. Personally I'm not seeing any graphical change.

Nice job! The whole new Engineers patch is awesome! I play only BETA now, even though my whole progress will be deleted. I just find the new mission board, better planetary surface, engineers and also much better perfomance too good to go and play the normal version... Keep it up!

You should probably open a bug report including a dxdiag for your system, so FD can see why the avatar generator is not performant enough on your system.

Same here,I cant play the non beta version for long, it seems almost like a diffirent game.
 
I am still having no paint degradation
Mission texts with #$starsystemname# in them
mission reasons such as; I need you to collect stuff because I need you to collect stuff - one of the headliners was I would be able to see why I am doing something?
Ship models in the shipyard being offset to the left and too small
menu's so huge they seem ideal for visually impaired players
loooooooooooooooooooooooong loading of portraits
planet ice rings look great when you are in the mist but just above there is a horrid lighting issue in the far distance and no fading of far off asteroids - maybe some fade and bloom in the distance?
(rocky ones are spot on!)

I agree 100%. It was 87% but them some weird random mechanism kicked in.
